It's refreshing to see a backpacker who still overpacks. I feel that's more realistic and common than minimalism. 85 liters is too much for me personally, but I don't feel I can do a 30 or 40. Maybe a 50. I once saw a girl who lived out of a 17 liter bag which was too extreme for me.
Also, glad someone else geeks out over gear.

I like your comment, though I'm an extreme minimalist traveler. Last September I lived out of my 6 liter tiny backpack, plus a one liter bumbag for 19 days hahaha :) It was so nice and relaxing to travel that light, and I really had everything I needed.

I usually overpack and overbuy stuff when on holiday, so I made myself a challenge to not take my 85l suitcase and 30l backpack with me, but only my Eagle Creek Companion 40l (which is AMAZING!!!) and now I am totally comfortable with 40l for about 1 - 2 weeks even in winter.

I remember backpacking in South East Asia and it was almost a "thing" to be packing light. It's like a badge. For me, I prefer more space these days. I'm going with a 60L bag for three weeks in Asia soon. I'll pack about 50L into it. Some space for new things.

No shade at all. I understand still using a large, heavy pack, but for me I do enjoy the simplicity of traveling light and efficient. However, it is a system approach to do so and requires some learning and skills to acquire lightweight/ultralight weight gear and clothes. Think multifunctional and simple, lightest weight version of something you can get.
Ultralight allows you raptor always have your bag with you no matter what, eg busses, trains etc and you can comfortably wear it for hours.

This got me so excited, I can't wait til this covid disaster is over so my bf and I can start traveling again. Can you do a video about what you do in a week as a travel vlogger? Where do you stay (hostel?, Airbnb?), do you carry around the entire backpack or do you use a day pack?, how much research do you do when planning activities, and how much planning do you do in advance in terms of making content for your channel?

I know it is a personal choice but I would really suggest you try using a menstrual cup. They are great in general but especially when traveling as you don't need to worry about disposing of tampons or buying them. Just an idea. Also, a hack that I have picked up is using shower caps on your feet when having a shower, if you worry about the cleanliness of the shower in hostels like I do. Flip flops work too though.

I'll give you just a tip:
With packing your bag think about comfort, wich means: go heavy to light from back bottom to front top of the bag, this will save your back and energy like x10.
tip 2: you shouldn't roll cables but like tangle them in each other, you'll never get them stuck in echother again! comment on this comment is your want an example, if so I'll try to upload a photo or something.

    • @sarahappy3204

I went on a short (18 days) solo trip last summer. It was my first time traveling all by myself. Just a few small tips:
Stay in Hostels and engage in activities. You'll usally meet people with similar interests. Maybe you'll find somebody with who you can travel along.
You can always call family or friends or you can even video chat with them (most hostels have wifi). Maybe it helps to send your loved ones home some pictures to let them be a part of your journey or a real postcard.
Even though most people were older (24-28) nobody cared that i had just turned 18. So age doesn't seem to be a problem

    • @annalang5687
      @annalang5687 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

If you stay in hostels, you are surrounded by people the entire time. Fill your days with a lot of stuff and keep yourself busy on travel days!
Also, WiFi is everywhere, you can contact family and friends basically whenever the time difference allowes it. I might have called my mom at two in the morning once...
I've found that more often than not, since you share your room with so many people, you actually learn to appreciate alone-time :)

All these tips are great about meeting people on the road! But also dont lose the opportunity to get comfortable being on your own! You can grow so much as a woman while traveling, and if you spend time getting to know who you are, doing what YOU want, WHEN you want... its invaluable, dont waste it wishing you were with someone or back home! My mom told me, right before I left on my trip, "If something scares you and excited you at the same time, you should probably do it." Everything we want is on the other side of fear. You got this!!!

Yeah. I used to think the bigger the better. So when buying my first backpack I couldn't deside wheter I would take a 75 liter or 85 liter. I took the 75 liter. Used it twice. Sold it. Most of the times i take my 20 liter sometimes with my 40 liter. But I don't see why you would need more.

What's the back way to put this in checked luggage? Do you wrap it in something or put a rain cover..? I have an osprey 65L and i am trying to decide if i wanna do hand luggage only just for the sake of not having to check a backpack. I feel it's gonna get opened or ripped :( anyone got any recommendation?

    Electronics game changer? Gear ties.
I use the Nite Ize gear ties for all of my cords.
Really helps with their longevity. That & using a little bit of electrical tape.
    Happy travels!

I'm only 3 minutes into the video, but I just had to drop a comment and say I never thought I would have so much fun watching someone hug a backpack. lol. I get you, girl: I'm getting ready to buy my first Osprey backpack for two upcoming international trips, and I'm so excited! Having trouble deciding on a color; rain forest green, or misty grey? I feel like grey would be more "minimalist" and grown up, but I love color! :) Anyway.....thanks for showing us around this backpack. :) Excited for your travels! The Philippines are on my bucket list of places to go. :)

I love Kelty backpacks. The hip belts and shoulder straps are SO comfortable and offset the load. So... if you pack your backpack like that, what do you do when you need to use your backpack for hiking? Do you use something smaller for getting around? I usually bring one of those long duffel bags to fit my backpacks in and use a smaller backpack as my carry-on...

Backpacking Bananas Yes, I saw that! Since I went to Mexico with carry-on only, me, my husband and kids had a Osprey Farpoint or Porter each, it was super nice to get out of the plane and not having to wait to baggage claim. I’m sold to Carry-on only when traveling.
