So, Im working in gaming retail and hopefuly my advice can possibly save you some bucks. So as most of you can predict, these games are expensive bcs there were not too many copies printed / released officially, but luckily some of these games will surely have another print runs comming. Rule of thumb usually is if that game is released just for US market, chances of another print run are very slim. But games that are published also for Europe and by Nintendo (for example that Torna will surely get another print atleast before Xmas). Another games I would bet on are YS 8, SAvior of Sapphire, Brigandine, Lost Child, Nights of Azure 2. And AoT had 2 reprint runs already, but they were very small and many ppl caught wind of this game, so I would keep my eyes peeled for a chance to grab it (basically set up notifications for any retailer that delivers to your for decent shipping costs). Code of Pricness EX is a game I would just buy now, bcs that is very old release that I can remember going for as low as 20 bucsk without VAT bcs it wasnt too succesfull as a release :)
Also there are couple other things that might lower your cost of purchase if you are completionists or just want some of these titles. Some of these games are still running in the wild (meaning some distrubutors still have them, or big retailers didnt manage to get rid of them and are returning them back to distributors / vendors). So some retailers might get hands on them, but they will go quick if ppl are aware of pricing (distirbutors and vendors dont care about this as much, they want to clear out their warehouse) and they should be available for reasonable prices (MSRP at most). So set up notificiations, or if possible just place an order for these games with your local retailer in hope he can still get their hand on them. Other thing I would recomend is second hand market where ppl dont know scalping prices for games and you might get it in decent shape still.
@@HallowedBeThyGame yeah Glad to help. Generaly Amazon and Ebay are worst places to look if something is out of print. Even tho its very easy to find stuff there, scalpers run wild in there. Even Amazon lets anyone sell for any prices they like. I remember some of the Limited Run Games that Best Buy was selling got to some distribution (most likely Best Buy dumped them for cheap in bulk on someone) and ppl that were able to get couple of these games were selling them for over 150€ in europe. I can remember Transistor cleary as it was very good game and couple more I cant think of.
Good advice, here, but let's not call these resellers scalpers. Low print runs, limited availability, and high demand is just plain commerce. I'd be a fool to sell you my copy of Code of Princess for the $20 I bought it for when everyone else is selling it for $150.
The Japanese consumer has to be willing to pay more money for video games than any other consumer in the entire world. Key word 'willing'. Doesn't mean they pay more, but they're actually WILLING to spend money on these games, and that is a testament to their quality.
I only own Ys VIII but I'd recommend playing the PS4 or PC version if possible because the frame rate on the Switch version can mar the overall experience. I struggled with consistent Flash Guards and Flash Moves, something I never had issue with in Ys SEVEN or Celceta.
@@HallowedBeThyGame I believe one character is missing. Ys VIII was released on Vita first, so it should run well considering that it was originally optimized for the Vita. But subsequent ports added more content. I have a sealed copy for the Vita. It's expensive nowadays. I'll buy the PS4 version to actually play and leave my Vita copy sealed.
Yeah Ys viii would give me severe headaches with the resolution and frames. Usually not to sensitive but could not play more than an hour total once I got in the island.
exactly....i have ys 8 on ps4,love the game but ys8 on switch,i hate it sooo much i cant even finish the game!! love monstrum nox on ps4,played it reached chaoter 3 and my ps4 died 😭😭😭 try switch demo and hate it too.
I cannot recommend Ys 8 enough. I bought it for the switch on a whim a couple years ago and omg, this game is so much fun. The story, the characters, the combat all drew me in. The story is fun and exciting and at some points, it did seem like "how many stranded island tropes can we pack in this game" but it was fun and done in such a good way. If you cant get it physical then yes buy it digital. it is such a good game...
Not to mention Dana’s character..oh boy, i miss her. I bought ys 9 but i haven’t finished it yet. Its just that there’s some kind of magic in ys8 that was lost in ys9, like exploring an inhabited island and discovering an ancient civilization is what makes it so unique and addicting.
I played ys 8 and stopped half way through. Then I started it up years later and did not play anything else till I finished it. I loved it so much I played ys9 to the end as well
Ys8 is fantastic. I got both the Vita collectors edition and later picked up the full PS4 version after the stupid Vita version was the lesser "original" version of the game. That and the Steelbook that came with the collectors edition was for the ps4. Lol (ultimately it was the cheaper route to get both versions of the game, with the option to delete updates and enjoy the "Big hole" that is the original hilariously awkward translation.)
I just wanted to say that the fact that the Switch isn’t region locked is a god send, as it allows a couple of these games to actually be reduced to around the normal price, one example being Torna. But yeah, this a good list, and it’s crazy how ridiculous this market has gotten…
I just want to say a lot of these games have a PS4 version and they tend to be a bit cheaper so if you're having trouble finding it on the switch and you really don't care what platform you have a physical and as long as you have a physical I'd highly recommend going that route it's going to run and play a little bit better anyways.
Only reasons I prefer Switch is because you can take em on the go. That and physical cartridges require absolutely no downloading. The biggest thing that saddened me when I got my PS5 is that you're still waiting 30-40 minutes to an hour to download a game even off a disc, crazy that this is still a thing
I own The Lost Child on PS4. Even at the $50 I paid I thought it a bit high, $40 feels right- it was knock off Soul Hackers and made me see how Atlus' older games did this style so much better.
Good video; Hard to predict what will be rare in the future, which is why I just buy anything I feel like I may like. Kicked myself over a few of these as well.
The crazy thing is that you have no way of knowing what's going to skyrocket in price. It's not like people can afford to buy every game that is coming out in the anticipation that it might appreciate in value.
I will say the smaller the publisher/more niche the title the greater the chance it'll increase because these titles have smaller print runs as a whole.
Former GameStop employee here. You can predict with a high percent of being right that a game won’t be reprinted and will remain rare forever if when the game releases, only one or two copies go to every GameStop. This happened with Just Dance 2020 for Wii.
I appreciate your overall series on both the cheap titles that are still readily available and this. I know this has always been a problem which has only heightened with all the eyes on the gaming collecting scene these last few years but it sucks to fight scalpers while trying to enjoy this hobby. Hearing you describe how you've talked yourself out of titles hit home for me lol because I can't just buy everything I think is neat looking on a hunch realistically but the constant fear of the possibility that this could shoot up in price randomly one day and I'll miss out on owning a fun game physically lingers in the back of my head a bit. The only two games I own in this list is Ys VIII and Code of princess EX. As others have mentioned Ys VIII is best played on PC or PS4. Especially since PC has the ability to play co-op on it now. But I picked code of princess EX on a whim since it was extremely cheap at the time. I didn't expect that title to be #1 and no, in my opinion it is not worth near anywhere in that price. Definitely a budget title for sure. I was lucky enough to start getting into game collecting around 2016 while also working at a game retail store so I managed to pick up a lot of great titles for a good price, both modern and retro. It only just makes the contrast to then and now staggering though with how tough it is to find neat little gems in the wild physically in my area anymore. Typically picked clean here. Anyway mini-rant over, great video as usual and I just subscribed!
Woh Ys 8 has coop?! That’s so cool! Wish Nintendo was easier to have that kinda stuff. Would be amazing. So happy you found the channel and that there’s another soul who’s talked themselves out of titles lol. Win some and lose some I guess lol. Thanks for sharing and subscribing!
Ew lol Any regular edition of a game that costs more than the going rate of most releases (E.G $60) just makes me sad haha Brigandine has my attention. Ys 8. Don’t even get me started. I had multiple chances but I cannot bring myself to drop the dough on it. The older I get, the more I have the mentality of - Multiple games for $60-$100 > one title that = $60-$100. I’m sure many of us can attest to that. So many of these look absolutely fantastic but as you said , I’ll go digital on a sale before I’d drop mad cash haha Awesome video brother! So crazy that switch games have gone insane priced already, when many consoles took years to have games climb in price. Crazy stuff haha
I know man this is nuts that it is already this bad. I'm afaid to see what the longterm prices are. I really am afraid haha. I will keep an eye out for you with Ys 8 and yeah man it is just like why not get some incredible games for cheap?
Another great video man! FYI, Fairy Fencer is a turn based rpg, not action based. It’s made by Compile Heart & Idea Factory. They make the Neptunia games. It plays a lot like the Neptunia games, if you’ve ever played those. I have it on PS4.
I have your number one on 3DS and Switch. I have a history with guardian heroes that brought me to buy this game when it came out on 3DS. As for the switch I picked it up just to see the difference in graphics I have to say I only played it for a few min on switch as I personally prefer it on the 3DS and tend to play that if I feel like a little nostalgia. My brother and sisters and I would spend hours playing Guardian heroes on Saturn when we were younger so this reminds me of then. Great video and I wish I could say that I had more of the titles on your list but for me I would really like Y’s 8 mostly. I would recommend code of princess for the unique art and gameplay mechanics.
I got code of princess on both 3ds and switch physical on a whim, and I haven't played them much because I'd pick it up and get distracted by another game. Never thought it'd get THAT rare
I was excited to get Demon’s Gaze for Switch but missed out completely. I ended up downloading Torna back when it released but I wish I picked it up physically since I love the main game so much. Ys VIII was one of those games that I picked up at that inflated price but man, I don’t regret it. Thankfully it’s prone to getting reprints from NISA occasionally. Great list Hallowed!
Absolutely recommend XC2 Torna. Battle system is fun, it’s action packed, character design is awesome and the story is so good it can make you 😢. I’m glad I kept my physical copy!
i will say in defense of it even if you prefer physical to digital if you have a physical copy of xenoblade 2 with dlc you have access to play torna within xc2
I have Brigandine: Legend of Runersia(Region free, not the Limited Run version). I played many, many hours of Brigandine: Legend of Forsena on the old PS1, so I had to have this game. I was able to get it around Christmastime last year on Amazon for $60, so I got a deal. It's amazing, and just like the old game on the PS1 with updated graphics and style. I also have Omega Labyrinth Life, a JRPG Roguelike. It has a lot of fanservice, but is actually kind of fun, and the Uncensored version goes for a ton online, if you can even find it. And God of Wars: The Complete Legend, a strategy RPG that is starting to explode in price on ebay as well. A couple of games I could recommend for the Switch on the cheaper end that are pretty decent are Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk, Shining Resonance Refrain, and Dragon: Marked for Death.
I recently won and ebay auction for the special edition for Xenoblade 2 and I bought Torna (physical). Altogether it was a fairly hefty price, but it brings me joy to know that I have some rare items under my belt now.
I stumbled on your YT channel and got surprised that YSVIII cost such. I have the Switch physical copy and it still have the Seiren Map and the collector cards inside.
A good rule of thumb is I buy all koei nis and xseed rpgs. From this list I have attack on titan 2, ys 8, torna, the saviors double pack ,code of princess and the limited run version of brigandine. Demon gaze bites me all the time because I waited for a sale which is why I have most of the games. I'd rather pay retail than ebay
From all I could tell it is the same game as the ps4 and switch. Also thanks for mentioning that! (bc I forgot lol) You can also still get the ps4 version from their store if anyone in the comments is curious.
Finally getting caught up on some videos here! Great list and I actually don’t own any of these! I’ve been hesitant about Ys8 since I’m not sure if it’s my thing…the demo didn’t grab me…. That Attack on Titan game really looks interesting though. I’m curious about some games that aren’t expensive now but MAY become expensive down the line like maybe Blue Reflection 2? I get the vibe it’s going to become some niche title that you won’t find easily in a couple years but who knows! Great video as always!
I think you are totally right about Blue Reflection 2 for switch. The first on PS4 is well over a 100$ and could see it getting bad for switch in a year or 2. Thanks for sharing! (And reminding me I gotta try and get Blue Reflection 2!)
This is definitely a situation where owning a Playstation 4 or 5 can certainly help the price differences (in some cases). Ys VIII is being rereleased on PS5 for $40 soon, The Lost Child is $40-$50 on ebay for PS4, Attack on Titan 1 and 2 both about $40 to $50 on ebay PS4, and like you mentioned Nights of Azure 2 is a better playing game and cheaper on PS4, but getting expensive there. It doesnt fix all of the price issues here but maybe some of them it could help. The Switch later on is going to have some mega expensive physical JRPG releases and I dont wish that to be true. The question is, which will be the most expensive ones out of them all? Great Video HBTG!
I'm curious in a kinda morbid way to see how absurd the most expensive Switch jrpg gets. You bring up some excellent points about ys 8 and yeah having a ps4 just makes this so much less painful to watch haha. Thanks for watching!
The one that's published for North America is pretty rare on average it's about $80 on eBay. I went on Amazon and bought the PAL region for half that price.
dam thats crazy, I got knights of azure 2 on a whim as well. It was on sale at ToysRUs since all the stores were closing. However, I regretted it at the time since I only spent a 1 hour playing it
I love The Lost Child! I totally recommend it! Sapphire of Sappire Wings is a lotta fun to play. Strangers of Sword City Revisted is fun too but kinda harder in a way like SMT. Fairy Fencer F Advent Dark Force I got for the PS4 but it's a lotta fun, really love how the story has three different routes you can follow and sure the game is a bit of a grind fest later on but if you pull through it it's well worth the effort. Demon Gaze Extra is really great too! I got the deluxe edition on sale and I love it!
Fairy fencer f is worth it my guy I would highly recommended you pick it up, the 2nd edition advent dark force that you mentioned in your video has so much more than the original to offer such as a larger party, more story, extra characters there’s a lot to love
I literally was just looking up upcoming preorders on Gamestop's website and saw Demon Gaze EXTRA on there, so I'm jumping on that. Of the ones listed, I have the Limited editons of The Lost Child, Nights of Azure 2, Y's VIII. I also have Code of Princess. I picked that up again since I have it on the 3ds too.
You sholud check out PNP or VGP. They have XC2 and a possible restock of Torna. Prices are in CAD, so they're even cheaper for US, both should run you around $160 or less I think.
I own three of these, dungeon crawlers aren't my thing so I usually overlook those, but you have a few games on here that I never even heard of. EDIT: Another game you might have added is Alliance Alive, it was cheap as dirt a while back, but now jumped in price for the switch version.
I'm glad to hear you found something interesting! And yeah I wasn't into the genre for quite awhile but Strange Journey kinda clicked with me and I have been more open to them. Thanks for watching!
Soooo many of these are ports of Vita games, where they're also expensive. I guess the "low print run" curse carried across both systems for these JRPGs.
I can't remember if it was late last year or earlier this year, but NIS America did re-release Ys VII: Lacrimosa of Dana on their own store site along with the PS4 version and a bunch of other NIS America published titles that were in high demand. I think they stopped selling the Switch version for whatever reason because I do remember it being among the titles to be re-released on their site. Also something to note, The Lost Child is a follow-up game to El Shaddai. I remember when Code of Princess EX was on Amazon for 19USD.
@@HallowedBeThyGame Yeah. I had considered getting Code of Princess EX when it was that cheap on Amazon since the character designer was the one that did the designs for 999 and Virtue's Last Reward. Lol
i do own the og demon gaze on vita but has the problem of if you don't have the right team, you will get walled at a certain point with no chance to save it since it slowly adds more boss mechanics the more you fight, were i got stuck was the boss passively healing after x amount of turns, i was more defensive so i was not able to do more then it healed. I also have the og Fairy Fencer F on PS3 and Code of Princess on 3ds, which i didnt play much of but princess runs more like a beat em up, which can be fun depending on the person. I also own Nights of Azure 2 SE on Switch, Ys VIII SE on PS4, both of which i got on release but never got around to playing since i wanted to play the games that came before it. Less needed with Ys since they all kind of start fresh with the same 'generic hero washes up on a shore somewhere', but i heard Nights of Azure 2 is a direct sequal to the first game so i have been putting it off till i actually play it lol.
I own both Code of Princess games, and I think the 3DS one is far better, if only for one reason. The 3DS version has an English dub, which, in my opinion, makes the humor in the game flow so much easier, than the Switch. It also irritates me that the Switch version takes away something that the 3DS version already had for no apparent reason.
13:11 you said if we dont pick up a game when its first released prices go up... the question i have is how do you know what games are going to go up other then all limited run games. I ordered 1 limited run games spring 2022 and havent gotten my game yet, yes limited run has great games but honestly HATE we have to wait years for the 1 game... wish limited run would print the bloody games and say we have 5000 then people buy and they ship it asap cuz they always sell out of there games.. Anyways great video i hope games go down in prices i dont see it going down but its nice there bring old games back to the ps4 & switch
Yeah I've been waiting so friggin long for a couple LRG games. Really wish I had a good answer for you on terms of what games will go up outside of that. A good rule that I follow is that if Koei Tecmo, Nicalis, or any company that deals with jrpgs or stylized anime games put out a release, it is better to not sit on one if you think it is something you might want in the future.
Fairy fencer is worth playing but not at that price point. It is a really fun game. My only complaint is that if you want to beat all 3 routes it can get boring. The first half of the game is the same and doesn't split off until a few hours in.
Cool list here Hallowed. Good to know that these games are trending up in price, so I might as well keep N eye out for them in our local ads, in case they do pop up. Just got my Switch recently and I'm trying to tread waters here carefully and purchase games that I know I would play. Believe it or not, I'm trying to purchase a Switch game only after I beat the previous title I recently bought. That way I get to check my self and not go stupid crazy with buying lotsa games. I'm with you with digital. Games on the Vita I could not justify buying, I just settled with PSN download.
I'm so psyched you got a switch man! I can't wait to see what you pickup and what titles turn out to be your favorite. These are crazy but what is cool is there are incredible games coming out or getting ported to it all the time! So many Vita games I missed the boat on... it's sad lol.
I might get the Fencer and Princess EX games for 100ish biting two bullets, I think both games will probably keep increasing in price. Bought YS VII back in 2019 after Beatemups recommended it, nice JRPG. Heard of Azure II over a year ago but didn't pick a copy when it was dirt cheap.
I got Ys 8 by getting stadia pro. Only 10 dollars, it came with the pro account. It's a phenomenal game, I've been doing a re-playthrough of it on my channel, and it works amazing on laptop/pc/etc. I have difficulty seeing things on the switch screen, and can't usually hook it up to the television, so to have it on my laptop is a great thing for me.
Funny how games purchases are almost the same like buying shares on the stock market! Normally JRPGs are almost a sure thing that they will keep their value and even go up in price as the years go by so now I'm not waiting when I see a game that interests me I pick it up as soon as possible! Also my personal rule: if it has the word Atlus on the box I'm buying it day 1 or soon after... not getting screwed again by all those SMT games costing a fortune! I got Code of Princess from Game Stop the day I bought my Switch as I knew I wanted it since I used to own it on the 3DS. I jumped on Savior Sapphire when I saw it announced as it looked fun and I got the LRG version of Brigandine when it was released as I used to play it way back on the PS1! As for Fary Fencer F I bought it digital on PS4 and I kicked myself for not picking up Torna so I bought it digital as well! I know you didn't mention Imports, but those are the new collectibles that I feel like they will skyrocket! Any fan of Tactical RPG and robots, should import any of the Super Robot Wars games (I now own them all on PS4) as some of them have been ported to the Switch but only as Asian English sub copies... these are starting to get in the high to ridiculous price range! Great video and keep up the good work!
Thanks so much and I'm psyched you're enjoying the video. Although I don't think any of us are enjoying how painful these games prices are getting lol. There's definitely games on today's list that I'm kicking myself for not getting. Oh well haha thanks so much for sharing and happy you have some of these rare games!
YS8 is the best out of YS series. It hook me deep enough to let me feel relive yet sad the moment I saw the true ending. I'd strongly recommend everyone to play and give it a shot. Digital or physical? Physical :) This game is good enough to give it some space in your home.
i did buy Nights of Azure 2 for 25 including shipping last week. I live in Germany - here it doesn't seem to be expensive at all. There's always a good deal somewhere for this game.
Aside from Demon Gaze, I own all these. I think I recall not wanting to import Demon Gaze because it required a patch to add the english subs day one. I could be mistaken but I think thats why I avoided biting on that one. Everything else I picked up because I collect rpgs for the switch and all of them seemed like titles I wanted to play. There is an even rarer and more expensive attack on titan 2 on switch that I never got. It was like a 1.5 sequel type deal. I kick myself for not snagging that way back when. Great video!
Ok yeah I think you’re right about Demon Gaze. And totally makes sense. Weird choice for them to not include. But yeah this final battle version of attack on titan is nuts now that I see it. Thanks for sharing and watching!
Regarding Fairy Fencer F it's not a action rpg but a turn based game that uses the same sort of combat system as the Neptunia Remake games (same devs if I'm right). Basically on your turn you move to the enemy and then attack by slotting in a few attacks at once depending on how much AP/Capacity points/etc and then activate the attack after that on which the attacks go off then your turn ends (haven't played it in a long time though so may be mis-remembering how the attacks go off...I do remember it is definitely turn based though).
Fairy Fencer is an *okay* compile heart style rpg. VN interaction style, no open wilderness just dungron sites you click on to explore. The combat is great actually and there’s an overdose of fan service ofc! I have it on ps3 (only about $20!)
Stranger of Sword city/Saphire Wings are definately worth it if you like Wizardry-style turn based dungeon crawlers, though these have way better stories than any of those old wizardry games plus some really unique mechanics like waiting in "ambush" zones to farm loot. But I wouldnt pay those stupid prices when you can just get the download much cheaper. BTW, those games are prequels to Demon Gaze, though many people dont seem to know it. There are some character references, and alot of the same enemy types but narratively they stand alone. They do take place in the same alternate universe though connected to the real world by some kind of a wormhole, which is explained in SoSC early on, which helps flesh out the rest of them. Fairy Fencer Advent dark force is turn based, with an active party of 6 (but you can switch out back up characters on the fly without wasting their turn doing it). It has multiple routes, and a great story. The only downside would be that they cant seem to decide if its going to be a serious story, or a comedic one... (I think its at its best when its trying to be serious personally). Some of the humor is really good, and some is pretty juvenile. But overall, its a must play for anyone who likes turn based JRPGS with likeable characters and a ton of content (there are multiple routes, and many of the characters are only recruitable on one route, however once a character is recruited, they become permenantly in your roster from NG plus on, which is a great feature more games should use!
The savior of saphire wings combo pack is very good(definitely worth the 70), and Brigandine is downright godly. Furthermore 70-90 for Brigandine is well worth it.
I use to work at a GameStop and some guy brought in ys viii and traded in for like 20 bucks in store credit I walked away with the copy for like 60 bucks
Here in France you can buy Brigandine : Legend of Runersia for about 42 to 50 euros this is about 45 to 53 american dollars. Sometimes you even get it mint at about 55 euros about 58 american dollars. Also the game is very good if you like Fire Emblem or even Civilization
So glad i'm living in Switzerland. Game prices here very rarely go higher than the release price. Some cost the same for months while others get cheaper and cheaper
Yeah i'm really glad. I can only recommend checking swiss sites to anyone that can. Most deliver to all of europe and some even to the US. Who knows, maybe someone get's lucky ^^
I own YS 8 for switch and already got the PS5 version pre ordered. Ys 8 is one of my favorite games of all time and the best game i've ever bought on a whim.
From what you listed I own Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Torna, Attack on Titan 2 (on PS4), Nights of Azure 2 (on PS4), Ys VIII (on PS4) and although you only mentioned it I also have RemiLore.
I own Torna, Nights of Azure 2 (PS4, and by the way the PC port sucks too,) Ys 8 on both Vita, and Ps4, Code of Princess on 3ds physically. I think my biggest surprise might be Code of Princess because I bought it for dirt cheap, and at the time it was a game so few had heard of. Maybe Torna as well because I'd expect a lot more copies out there with how much people loved 2.
Out of this list I have Code of Princess, Ys VIII and Nights of Azure 2. I got CoP and NoA2 for less than 20 a piece and would say that is about the maximum they are worth. I think the most expensive game I own in Worms W.M.D, have not opened it yet as I don't think it would hold the attention of anyone I know for more than 30mins.
Would recommend getting Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Torna the Golden country with the dlc pack with the original XC2 game, it's 30 bucks and you get all added content with XC2 as well, TBH it's hard to justify the physical release just bc of that and it's too expensive physically, it's a fun game and gives context for XC2, tho there is very specific padding in Torna at multiple times so be aware.
I'm so damn sad. I had a copy of Brave Fencer Musashiden and Tail Concerto, but both are damaged from childhood.🥲 The only great copy of a legendary game I have is Solatorobo for the DS
If you already played Demon Gaze, then Stranger of Sword City & Saviour of Sapphire Wings should make you feel right at home. Same gameplay: 1st dungeon crawler, set up and customize your party, and find loot while exploring. I know it's a broken wheel, but I can safely say that *Strangers of Sword City is the Dark Souls of 1st Dungeon RPGS* Game can be insanely difficult and there is permedeath (except the main protagonist) You'd be challenged to the limit, but the difficulty is what makes it fun *Strangers of Sword City is NOT for everyone* But if you want the extra challenge then pick up the game
I just bought Xenoblade 2 Torna for $40 on Amazon. It was $80 or more for as long as I remember. I had to grab it at that price. I've bought Fairy Fencer F for $3 on a PSN sale. I platinumed and I would say it is worth $70 if it is factory sealed. Nights of Azure 2 is a fun hack and slash, but I don't think it is worth that price, I bought it for $30 on the PS4 a few years ago. The Lost Child, I've tried it for 1 hour. It was interested, but I didn't feel like playing an RPG at that time.
Ugh this list hurts! I want to play pretty much all of these, but only have Torna. Even then I only have a loose cart of it. (Haven't played Xenoblade Chronicles 2 yet, so haven't played Torna yet either). I need to get the PS4 versions of some of these soon, before they also get pricey! That doesn't work for Attack on Titan 2 though, cause both versions are super expensive bleh.
I am just so confused why Nintendo wouldn't print more of Xeno 2 and Torna. I hate that for ya, but I also know what ya mean. I need to just get the ps4 versions of the ones that have my attention the most!
Fairy Fencer up until early last month was still in stock, marked up to $65 shipped, on PNP games and I was too proud to cave at that price point and now regret it. Hoping for a reprint on IFI store ahead of the sequel releasing.
I have most of these but only about half of them physically. Something to consider is importing if they are import friendly. Many RPGs have English available on their Asia region and even Japanese cero rated copies. Many times these are far less expensive routes to go to get a physical copy of a game for your collection.
@@HallowedBeThyGame no worries. Doesn't work for every single game but many have english on the cart. A few examples I can give you are the SaGa games, Final Fantasy Rereleases, Eastward, and Chrono Cross.
Fun story: I got Attack on Titan 2 Final Battle for free. My brother bought me harvest moon light of hope for the switch (terrible game), but I already had a copy on the ps4, so I returned the game for full store credit, and at the time, AoT2FB was on sale for 25 bucks, brand new. So I used the credit to buy that, and put a deposit on a preorder with the rest of the remaining credit. The game is great but can give headaches with the camera being crazy. If I had known it would sky rocket in price like that, I never would’ve opened it since I got it sealed.
So weird to see the Lost Child getting up there. I picked it up on a whim for 20-25CND. It was discounted and common as dirt for a long while. The game itself is... okay. Like, not bad or anything but doesn't do too much interesting and what interesting mechanics it might have it doesn't give you much motivation to use. I fully suspect Mary Skelter Finale will join these titles eventually.
Oh wow, ok that's good to know. I'm interested to revisit some of these titles and see where they trend. But yeah I'm expecting Mary Skelter Finale to prolly follow the same trend they did on Vita... which is scary haha.
@@HallowedBeThyGame Yeah, I bought the Mary Skelter 1 collector's edition when it was announced. Never thought much of it as a collectible but really enjoyed the game. Imagine my shock to see it's going rate years later. Vita collectors were getting ravenous for a while.
I'll keep this in mind, thank you!
This comment is golden. Thank you for your insight! I genuinely hope it saves people time, money, and stress!
What are some Switch games that shock you at how expensive they are?
If you like this kinds of games i recommend ps2 jrpg as long as you dont mind the graphics.
I only own Ys VIII but I'd recommend playing the PS4 or PC version if possible because the frame rate on the Switch version can mar the overall experience. I struggled with consistent Flash Guards and Flash Moves, something I never had issue with in Ys SEVEN or Celceta.
I wonder how it ran on the vita. I heard it had like reduced content or something.
Completely agree!
Definitely buy it digital
I played ys 8 and stopped half way through. Then I started it up years later and did not play anything else till I finished it. I loved it so much I played ys9 to the end as well
Ys8 is fantastic. I got both the Vita collectors edition and later picked up the full PS4 version after the stupid Vita version was the lesser "original" version of the game. That and the Steelbook that came with the collectors edition was for the ps4. Lol (ultimately it was the cheaper route to get both versions of the game, with the option to delete updates and enjoy the "Big hole" that is the original hilariously awkward translation.)
The PAL version of Ys VIII is on Play Asia for $45
I just wanted to say that the fact that the Switch isn’t region locked is a god send, as it allows a couple of these games to actually be reduced to around the normal price, one example being Torna. But yeah, this a good list, and it’s crazy how ridiculous this market has gotten…
Region free is a god send haha. Hoping a couple of these can get reprints and I can't throw them onto the affordable lists lol.
XC2 Torna is incredible and the physical copy is a must for collectors. But if you just want to play it you can just buy the season pass for XC2.
If ppl wanted em cheap they could just buy digitally. Switch gamers prefer Switch versions because of the hybrid advantage
@@ErectileSceptile y can go on the go with psvita remote to play to your ps4 game :D
@@เผด็จาร-นนนนง You'd still need internet connection for remote play. The vita is a fantastic console though no doubt
i got ys 8 for free* with a cloud gaming subscription, so i didn't know the price of ys 8 until now xd
Play Ys VIII however you can get it and you won't be sorry!
I shudder to think what prices look like when the system is retired.
It’s terrifying right?
I own The Lost Child on PS4. Even at the $50 I paid I thought it a bit high, $40 feels right- it was knock off Soul Hackers and made me see how Atlus' older games did this style so much better.
I am coo coo bananas for Soul Hackers! But ok that's good to have appropriate expectations for it haha. Thanks for letting me know!
It plays like soul hackers? I've never played it
"painfully expensive" describes literally every switch game
true, I should be more specific.
However if I could unlock the ability to see the future then there wouldn't be a problem! (It is so frustrating haha)
I will say the smaller the publisher/more niche the title the greater the chance it'll increase because these titles have smaller print runs as a whole.
This is a great point!
Former GameStop employee here. You can predict with a high percent of being right that a game won’t be reprinted and will remain rare forever if when the game releases, only one or two copies go to every GameStop. This happened with Just Dance 2020 for Wii.
That’s fantastic info, good to know!
i bought thorna for 5€from ebay a few years ago :D thats about 70€ profit now haha
Surprised not to see the Atelier Dusk Trilogy on this list, currently over £300 here in the UK. Grandia HD collection shooting up too!
That's good to know! Thanks so much for letting me know. I'm excited to play the Deathend games this summer!
You should have also mentioned Caligula Effect: Overdose and Alliance Alive HD. Caligula Effect goes for $110+ and Alliance Alive HD goes for $80+.
The Lost Child is a sequel/Prequel to El Shadaddi on the PS3/360 FYI.
Sword City is actually a Vita game with extra content fleshed out bundled with another game the Vita version had a CE that is also pretty expensive.
Attack on Titan 2 is currently being reprinted by Video Games Plus. They've had a few reprint runs now.
I have got to play Guardian Heroes, sounds like something I’d love. Thanks for sharing and glad you enjoyed the video!
We’ve all been there and I completely agree, ys 8 just rocks so hard haha. So happy you enjoyed the list!
awesome video i love the nintendo switch and its crazy to see how the games for it are just going out the window in price
So happy you enjoyed the video! And yeah it is shocking lol
I bought Lost Child on the way out and I really liked it, but most importantly, through this game I learned about the SMT series
Amazon UK randomly got a fresh batch of Torna physicals in February 2022.
Got it for £45 new (just under $60). Managed to snag one at the time.
Torna was the best game in the series IMO.
Hey that's awesome and yeah you definitely do, congrats!
I stumbled on your YT channel and got surprised that YSVIII cost such. I have the Switch physical copy and it still have the Seiren Map and the collector cards inside.
Hey that's awesome! And happy you found the channel!
@@HallowedBeThyGame subbing:)
I totally get it and yeah that's literally the best rule to follow with that trio. That's awesome you got quite a bit from this list! So cool!
heads up, xenoblade 2 torna is now $53 brand new on amazon in stock T rated (usa)
YS VIII is coming to PS5, I don't know if the PS5 version is any different to PS4 or switch?
From all I could tell it is the same game as the ps4 and switch. Also thanks for mentioning that! (bc I forgot lol) You can also still get the ps4 version from their store if anyone in the comments is curious.
I have a collectors edition of Ys VIII on Switch. I bought it at release luckily.
That's so freaking collectible now haha. I'm finally correctly lack of coolness and getting the ps5 CE they are releasing.
A game you forgot: The Calígula Effect Overdose. Purchased it for $40 at gamestop and it turns out the game resells for like $115 lol. Got real lucky.
Ooof that’s painful haha. Awesome pickup tho!
IDK if someone said it but Demon Gaze Extra will be released physically once Jan. 13th 2023 arrives for 59.99 bucks
Excellent news! Thank you!
I recently bought Ys VIII on switch physically for aprox $50 on amazon might be the best bet right now (EU copies)
Solid price for one of the goats!
I have Nights of Azure 2 on Switch and I've never had a hard crash once I will agree that they didnt change the button mapping but you get used to it
This is definitely a situation where owning a Playstation 4 or 5 can certainly help the price differences (in some cases).
Thanks for watching!
is Ys 8 physical on switch really that expensive now? i got my copy for $40…
The one that's published for North America is pretty rare on average it's about $80 on eBay. I went on Amazon and bought the PAL region for half that price.
I played "the lost child" and it helps scratch the SMT and Etrian oddessy itch, with it's use of lovecraftian monsters.
Great to hear! Thanks for sharing
dam thats crazy, I got knights of azure 2 on a whim as well. It was on sale at ToysRUs since all the stores were closing. However, I regretted it at the time since I only spent a 1 hour playing it
Yeah the switch version is really bad, but hey you have a rare game now!
That's awesome! I'm gonna have to check out these digitally or on the ps4. They look right up my alley. Thanks for sharing!
I think I paid like $3 for this digitally if you want to try it. It's not huge either.
Fairy fencer f is worth it my guy I would highly recommended you pick it up, the 2nd edition advent dark force that you mentioned in your video has so much more than the original to offer such as a larger party, more story, extra characters there’s a lot to love
That’s great to know! It and Dragonstar Varnir are getting reprints next month.
I really, really want Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Torna, but together it's gonna be up to 200 bucks for both games now.
It's crazy! I can't believe they just haven't printed more at this point.
@@HallowedBeThyGame I know, it's kind of shocking. I wonder if they will soon with the popularity of this series really taking off.
Like it makes total financial sense with hype for xenoblade 3
You sholud check out PNP or VGP. They have XC2 and a possible restock of Torna. Prices are in CAD, so they're even cheaper for US, both should run you around $160 or less I think.
@@MaryyamFatima Thanks so much, Mary!
Very true
I can't remember if it was late last year or earlier this year, but NIS America did re-release Ys VII: Lacrimosa of Dana on their own store site along with the PS4 version and a bunch of other NIS America published titles that were in high demand. I think they stopped selling the Switch version for whatever reason because I do remember it being among the titles to be re-released on their site.
Also something to note, The Lost Child is a follow-up game to El Shaddai.
I remember when Code of Princess EX was on Amazon for 19USD.
That’s great to know about El Shaddai! I’m that much more intrigued by it. And it’s crazy how much Code of Princess blew up.
@@HallowedBeThyGame Yeah. I had considered getting Code of Princess EX when it was that cheap on Amazon since the character designer was the one that did the designs for 999 and Virtue's Last Reward. Lol
@@KazeNinja17 I didn’t know it was the same but looking at it now it makes total sense haha
i do own the og demon gaze on vita but has the problem of if you don't have the right team, you will get walled at a certain point with no chance to save it since it slowly adds more boss mechanics the more you fight, were i got stuck was the boss passively healing after x amount of turns, i was more defensive so i was not able to do more then it healed.
That's great to know! I'm hoping for a reprint but I ain't gonna wait long, looks fun! I'll be wary if I go for all routes tho, thank you!
Good thing most of the Jrpgs are also available digitally which keeps the price in check
Ys VIII is on Play-Asia for $47 if you don’t mind the Europe version.
It can get pretty painful for sure, hope you enjoy the games!
It has the same impact on me! Thanks for sharing!
The liar princess and the blind prince recently had a Twitter poll from NISA about bringing it back into stock
$90 for a game? That's $10 under retail price. Fantastic!
The Lost Child is a lot of fun. I just picked it up digitally for $6.99.
Code of Princess was recently reprinted by VGP, you can purchase it for 50 bucks
VGP the heroes we needed but didn’t deserve
80-100+ is becoming the norm for even halfway decent games with middling print runs.
It really does seem to be the norm
i did buy Nights of Azure 2 for 25 including shipping last week. I live in Germany - here it doesn't seem to be expensive at all. There's always a good deal somewhere for this game.
Well that's friggin awesome!
it' was at 9 euro in france at micromania , i sell it 15 lol , about 2 year ago
Thanks for explaining that! Good to know!
Fairy Fencer is an *okay* compile heart style rpg. VN interaction style, no open wilderness just dungron sites you click on to explore. The combat is great actually and there’s an overdose of fan service ofc! I have it on ps3 (only about $20!)
i have on ps4 bought 8 euro in france lol in 2019 i no have ps3 version
Furthermore 70-90 for Brigandine is well worth it.
i paid $79 for that game..
@@roseforyoubabe Cool, you'll enjoy it, I'm sure.
Hey that’s awesome
Yeah i'm really glad. I can only recommend checking swiss sites to anyone that can. Most deliver to all of europe and some even to the US. Who knows, maybe someone get's lucky ^^
I own YS 8 for switch and already got the PS5 version pre ordered. Ys 8 is one of my favorite games of all time and the best game i've ever bought on a whim.
It's that good! I picked it up for the PS5 as well again lol.
I think the people who saw YS 8 on the NIS store saw it during the restock that happened like a few months ago. But it sold out within half an hour.
Ok that explains a lot, thanks for clearing that up!
From what you listed I own Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Torna, Attack on Titan 2 (on PS4), Nights of Azure 2 (on PS4), Ys VIII (on PS4) and although you only mentioned it I also have RemiLore.
Dang that’s awesome!
Nice list you might want to pickup Undernauts and Laytons Mysteries 😎 and Prinny Exploded and Reloaded 😊
Cool, thanks! That's good to know!
Yeah I’m blown away by the spike of those two as well.
Would recommend getting Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Torna the Golden country with the dlc pack with the original XC2 game, it's 30 bucks and you get all added content with XC2 as well, TBH it's hard to justify the physical release just bc of that and it's too expensive physically, it's a fun game and gives context for XC2, tho there is very specific padding in Torna at multiple times so be aware.
the digital versions of most of these are usually on sale, and affordable.
I played Ys 8 on Stadia. It got me so hooked on modern action JRPGs that I bought a switch.
That’s awesome! I love it too!
I know it's a broken wheel, but I can safely say that *Strangers of Sword City is the Dark Souls of 1st Dungeon RPGS*
Game can be insanely difficult and there is permedeath (except the main protagonist)
You'd be challenged to the limit, but the difficulty is what makes it fun
*Strangers of Sword City is NOT for everyone* But if you want the extra challenge then pick up the game
PNP Games has been getting restocks lately for Torna, just an FYI. :)
Fairy Fencer up until early last month was still in stock, marked up to $65 shipped, on PNP games and I was too proud to cave at that price point and now regret it. Hoping for a reprint on IFI store ahead of the sequel releasing.
Oh wow, and ok that's good to know. Gosh that'd be fantastic if they did. I'd jump in as well.
i got fairy fencer for 8 euro on ps4 ;D 2 year ago
@@HallowedBeThyGame limited run games is currently restocking this if you still interested
I have most of these but only about half of them physically. Something to consider is importing if they are import friendly. Many RPGs have English available on their Asia region and even Japanese cero rated copies. Many times these are far less expensive routes to go to get a physical copy of a game for your collection.
Great tip, thanks for sharing!
Torna and YS8 are waaaay cheaper in the UK, Torna you can grab for about $48, YS8 for $40
i saw YS8 for 22 euro or 20 euro in micromania in france
I loved the chick with the rapier! Im now playing her game no matter what.
She's top tier! Have fun with Ys 8!
@@TarksGauntlet I knew I was in trouble when Gravity Rush was over a hundred..
I have the original Mary skelter for the Vita
