You can't get real hip hop like this man! When the shit was real and artists actually had something to say and could paint a picture with their words. I mean yeah, have fun, enjoy yourself, but all in all have somethin to actually speak about. That's what they did. You can't help but to feel every word he's saying. Remember when I watched Beatstreet when I was a kid and this popped up... favorite part of the whole movie. Crazy how this song is like 20+ years old and still relevant to today's problems. This here my friends is what I like to call, real music.
THIS AMAZING SONG NEEDS TO BE CRANKED UP TO THE HIGHEST VOLUME AND PLAYED FOR THE WHOLE WORLD TO HEAR BECAUSE IT STILL RINGS TRUE SINCE IT'S RELEASE ALMOST 30 YEARS AGO!!! WE ARE REPEATING HISTORY, BECAUSE WE NEVER LEARNED FROM IT!!! THEY WANT US DIVIDED, AND KILLING EACH OTHER SO THEY CAN CONQUER US AND TAKE WHAT LITTLE RIGHTS WE HAVE...THIS HAS NEVER BEEN ABOUT RACE, COLOR, AND/OR CREED, IT IS ABOUT POWER, GREED, AND CONTROL BY THE SO-CALLED UNTOUCHABLE ELITES!!! STAND UP FOR SOMETHING, OR YOU WILL FALL FOR ANYTHING!!! GOD BLESS US ALL!!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥This was my favorite movie as a teenager. But as a grown man and ex MC Mellie Mels verse was , is and will ALWAYS be hip hops GREATEST verse!!! It gets no realer than that!!!!💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
AND YOU CAN by watching Kyle Reese Hotwire a stolen car in The Terminator 1984! It’s going to ALL COME BACK TO YOU when THIS SONG starts playing on the radio. It’s the original Terminator movie with the it’s future prediction wrapped up in a nutshell
I watched this movie when I was a kid I’m now 43 years old and I have been an avid follower of hip-hop my whole life. This is my first time really listening to his verse. I’m blown away by how much knowledge Melly Mel was droppin.
I met this band in Norway back in 1984. They had a show on my disco dance place called Circus.. I even met Grand Master Melle Mel in person. I talked with him.
My Mom introduced this movie to me at the age of 12. I wish I would’ve appreciated it the way that I do now. Such a power l film. Melle was ahead of his time! That’s hip hop! ♥️
"And if the world was yours to do over, I know you'll paint a better place to live!" I get chills every time I hear that verse. The depth he went to describe his graffiti talent. Melle Mel is the goat hands down!!!
At first I thought this was silly, then I paid attention to the lyrics and realised how amazing and relevant these words are even to this day. As a race, we've learnt nothing,
Amazing how it stands the test of time. They knew we’d never learn anything from our mistakes. Melle Mel and the other guys were simply prophetic. Man, his rhythmic feel and percussive rapping is just to die for!
Honestly …. compared to black thought, Royce 5’9”, Eminem, Rakim, Aesop rock, Kendrick, JID, j Cole, should I continue?…. It’s mid grade and the rhyme schemes aren’t complicated at all … you might like this type of rapping better, I can dig it … it was a simpler time … but bars don’t have to be complicated to be impactful Either …. Mel rips it …. For an 80s rapper ;)
Why isn't he talked about more? I feel like hes one of the most recognized mcs but nobody knows about him. He has the best style and voice in my opinion of all rappers.
I can listen this 1 million times. The true hip hop rules! Grandmaster Melle Me is real. I hope a remake. I'm 49 and still loves this song until today.
I'm hurt at 38 years old I never heard this. Melle mel verse was some of the greatest art I've ever witnessed and heard. This is the type of content that should be on the forefront of pop culture. Shame on us
The movie and the soundtrack to it was what got me into breakin and graffiti.. stuck with graf for some 15-20yrs.. hearing this today, damn! Im back as a kid when it was all new n fresh and magical!
If you really know hip hop, Mel is easily top 5 to ever do it. He was so far ahead of his own age and the time. He just happened to pioneer hop hop before it became mainstream. Give him his flowers, people 🎉
Melle Mell was prophetic on this

@@Bongz1990 this comment didn't age well at all. 😂
I feel Old, but at least I'm Blessed
Old School HipHop will Never be Beaten
Beat Street, the king of the beat
You see him rockin' that beat from across the street
And huh-huh, Beat Street is a lesson, too
Because ah, you can't let the streets beat you
Uh!
Well, a picture can express a thousand words
To describe all the beauty of life you give
And if the world was yours to do over
I know you'd paint a better place to live
Where the colors would swirl
And the boys and girls can grow in peace and harmony
And where murals stand on walls so grand
As far as the eyes are able to see, ha
I never knew art till I saw your face
And there'll never be one to take your place
'Cause each and every time you touch a spraypaint can
Michaelangelo's soul controls your hands
Then serenades of blue and red
And the beauty of the rainbow fills your head
Crescendo colors playin' tunes
Man why oh why you'd have to die so soon?
Ashes to ashes and dust to dust
Where the good die young is all thy must
Cause as life must live death must die
And the tears shall fall from the living eye
Huh, teardrops fall for the state of mind
Of the beautiful lady that you left behind
In love and alone, but now you're dead
And she still can't get you out of her head, huh
More tears fall for all you've done
Tried to be a good father to your only son
But now who's gonna make sure that he's fed
Put a shirt on his back and a roof over head?
Tell me who's gonna dream the impossible dream
Of the beautiful cities and the island's ?
When your works of art brought into being
All that the ghetto stopped you from seeing
Bums on the sidewalk, garbage in the street
Abandoned buildings, bricks of concrete
The ladies on the corner are sellin that body
And everybody wants a part in that party
I'm hangin' out tough rockin' late at night
Runnin' wild in the town of the neon lights
You either play some ball or stand in the hall
Huh, you gotta make somethin' out of nothin' at all
I'm sittin' in the classroom learnin' the rules
And it says you can't do graffiti in school
That can't be wrong in the hallowed hall
So my notebook turned into a big wall
The heart of a lion and the courage of three
And the mind of a man much wiser than me
You're the soul of the brother who won't come back
Who died in my arms on the railroad track
Cause I'm caught in a rat race lookin' for my own space
It gotta be a better place for you and me
There's pie in the sky and a eye for a eye
Some people gotta die just to be free
You search for justice and what do you find?
You find just us on the unemployment line
You find just us sweatin' from dawn to dusk
There's no justice, it's, huh, just us
Still life urban masterpiece
Your trademark was written on trains and walls
A million dollar gift only God released
Huh, and yet you got killed for nothin' at all
So after this there'll be no more hard time
No more bad times and no more pain
No more chump change, none of that bull
Just movies, museums and the hall of fame
So all you hip-hops, get on up
And let's take it to the top where we belong
Cause the age of the Beat Street wave is here
Everybody let's sing along, now come on
And say hooo (Hooo)
Say hooo (Hooo)
And to let me know I'm rockin the microphone
Everybody say Ramon (Ramon)
Ramon (Ramon)
Rrrrhaa!
A newspaper burns in the sand
And the headlines say 'Man Destroys Man'
Extra extra, read all the bad news
On the war for peace that everybody would lose
The rise and fall, the last great empire
The sound of the whole world caught on fire
The ruthless struggle, the desperate gamble
The game that left the whole world in shambles
The cheats, the lies, the alibies
And the foolish attempts to conquer the sky
Lost in space, and what is it worth?
Huh, the President just forgot about Earth
Spendin' multi-billions and maybe even trillions
The cost of weapons ran in the zillions
There's gold in the street and there's diamond under feet
And the children in Africa don't even eat
Flies on their faces, they're livin' like mice
And their houses even make the ghetto look nice
Huh, the water tastes funny, it's forever too sunny
And they work all month and don't make no money
A fight for power, a nuclear shower
A people shout out in the darkest hour
Sights unseen and voices unheard
And finally the bomb gets the last word
Christians killed Muslims and Germans killed Jews
And everybody's bodies are used and abused
Huh, minds are poisoned and souls are polluted
Superiority complex is deep rooted
Leeches and lices, and people got prices
Egomaniacs control the self-righteous
Nothin' is sacred and nothin' is pure
So the revelation of death is our cure
Peoples in terror, the leaders made a error
And now they can't even look in the mirror
Cause we gotta suffer while things get rougher
And that's the reason why we got to get tougher
So learn from the past and work for the future
And don't be a slave to no computer
Cause the children of Man inherit the land
And the future of the world is in your hands
So just throw your hands in the air
And wave em like you just don't care
And if you believe that you're the future
Scream it out and say oh yeah (Oh yeah)
Oh yeah (Oh yeah)

Im purty sure it was befor 87 nwa came out on 85 this has gotta be older im guessing
@@trichomebeast1130 he's probably talking about the quote, Not the song
@@utthamprakash4976 Melle Mel quoted this on the Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five album "On The Strength"
melles verse is arguably the greatest in hip hop history
It's all him, the actor is miming ;)
I dont think Wyld Stallions sings the song that brings the world together..it was supposed to be this one!!
Agreed
there is no argument to that
Awwwwee. U Guys....
This masterpiece will always stand the test of time
Yes. Unless he releases a diss track that is so bad it erases how great he was lol
Even now? I didn't even know Melle Mel existed. Generations will receive him as a joke. Lol. Test of time.
@@msgentertainment2478 Lol you beat me to this comment by 5 mins.
I was 12 in 1984 in Humboldt, TN and was writing all his lyrics down in my notebook. Now, I'm 48, reliving it on TH-cam. Hip Hop rulez!!
I did the same when I was 12. Listened to the tape.. Wrote, play, stop, copy write again until I got the whole song..
Why were you 12 in Humboldt 😩😂
"Cause we gotta suffer, when things get rougher, and that's the reason why we got to get tougher". You better preach Melle Mel!
Words STILL on point 30 yeARS LATER.
+Luis rivera REAL TALK !!!!!!!
You ain't lying my brother
definitely
Amen brother
World powers don’t spend as much resources on space anymore, that’s probably the only part that’s actually changed.
Man no matter how many times I come back Melle Mel was a true genius the lyrics the delivery...
true dat
Hell Yeah back when Hip-Hop artists were INTELLIGENT.
Krp79 79 lmaooo
He did it from the heart
Melle Mel was on fire when I was a kid!! He spoke the truth - that's how hip hop started though, real talk.
Beat Street is by far the Best Hip Hop movie ever made... Respect It!!
Krush Groove is also good
"Nothin is sacred and nothin is pure
So the revelation of death is our cure"
You can't get real hip hop like this man! When the shit was real and artists actually had something to say and could paint a picture with their words. I mean yeah, have fun, enjoy yourself, but all in all have somethin to actually speak about. That's what they did. You can't help but to feel every word he's saying. Remember when I watched Beatstreet when I was a kid and this popped up... favorite part of the whole movie. Crazy how this song is like 20+ years old and still relevant to today's problems. This here my friends is what I like to call, real music.
Shit over 30 years ago
That is no lie my friend, I lived in this Era and went through it all!
I just watch beat street on Tubi…and pull soundtrack. Real MC
the best art is made when the artist is hungry
GOD BLESS US ALL!!!
yes man
Digg
I agree.. miss those days.
very much true
And, and, dont forget that Bush did 9/11 !!! The MSM is telling you he didn't, but he did.
🔥🔥🔥🔥This was my favorite movie as a teenager. But as a grown man and ex MC Mellie Mels verse was , is and will ALWAYS be hip hops GREATEST verse!!! It gets no realer than that!!!!💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Got me in tears theses old school rappers were genius!!!

Still the best verse in Hiphop history
Mellie Mel killed it.
TIME TO BRING THIS ALL BACK!!!!

I was that nerdy white kid that didn't dance so well
I watched this movie when I was a kid I’m now 43 years old and I have been an avid follower of hip-hop my whole life. This is my first time really listening to his verse. I’m blown away by how much knowledge Melly Mel was droppin.
"Bums on the sidewalk, garbage in the street, abandoned buildings bricks and concrete." How can anybody say Melle Mel is not the GOAT rapper?
It doesn't get much better than the Grandmaster. Excellent rap. I miss the great 80's.Only B-Girl in my Crew.XX
melle mel the best rapper of all time
Agreed. He's #1 on my list, and that will NEVER change. I'm taking it to my grave.
He killed dis shit!!! Damn. Love it
I met this band in Norway back in 1984. They had a show on my disco dance place called Circus.. I even met Grand Master Melle Mel in person. I talked with him.
The ending to this i had to hold back the tears. Even writing this is making my eyes water I've not watched it for years.
My Mom introduced this movie to me at the age of 12. I wish I would’ve appreciated it the way that I do now. Such a power l film. Melle was ahead of his time! That’s hip hop! ♥️
My Mom did the same for me. At the time I liked Breakin better I was 13 then but know I realize how Beat Street was reflective of the true struggle.
As a race, we've learnt nothing,
Got my in tears! These old school rappers are genius!!!
@@Tashaten me too
exactly!!
This should be taught in schools now, great music with a great message!
Almost 40 years old but still sounds so fresh & inspiring!
Still love this at 29 years old
Amazing how it stands the test of time. They knew we’d never learn anything from our mistakes. Melle Mel and the other guys were simply prophetic. Man, his rhythmic feel and percussive rapping is just to die for!
even though I was born in 2004 I love Grandmaster flash and melle mel
In under 5 minutes this man destroyed every wanna be rapper from the 90s 2000s even these wackass mumble rappers. 100%👍
WORD
Truth in its purest sense 🔥🔥🔥
including the GEn z Great Eminem
@@Bloodsport1I only came here for that and I must say.... I disagree 😅😅
Honestly …. compared to black thought, Royce 5’9”, Eminem, Rakim, Aesop rock, Kendrick, JID, j Cole, should I continue?…. It’s mid grade and the rhyme schemes aren’t complicated at all … you might like this type of rapping better, I can dig it … it was a simpler time … but bars don’t have to be complicated to be impactful
Either …. Mel rips it …. For an 80s rapper ;)
Melle Mell was off the chart. F you don't know, u lost. Salute Hip Hop!! Classic
Rappers nowadays dont have no chance against Melle Mels rhymes, you can understand every word woth no cussing. He was the God Father of Rap!
Im a New Zealander and this song and movie was so huge and is timeless even now. Unbelievable song. A master piece.
These is real rap I grew up with these music
Me too
Das sind die STARS meiner Jugend Beat Street was fürn endgeiler Film ❤
This was 30 years ago and he warned us about what's happening today. Melle Mel was prophetic
Best Ever! 30 years on! Still feels like yesterday!
a mis 58 años aun sigo dsfrutando esta musica 25-05-2023
This knocked me over in 84 when I saw it!
“Don’t be a slave to no computer”. This man was way ahead of his time.
Who else gets hype when they listen to this? The best lyricist....song is so prophetic!
He spoke the truth!! Way back when!!!
"Don't' be a slave to no computer". I'm watching this awesome clip on a computer. Go figure!
Since the internet the whole world's sold out to the computer!
I’m watching this video on my microwave
My childhood, reminds me of Christmas 🎄 I’m 28 now grew up watching this movie wit my brother....
Melle Mel killed it!!
If you listen to the lyrics, Melle Mel was ahead of his time, especially when he says don't be a slave to a computer.
Why isn't he talked about more? I feel like hes one of the most recognized mcs but nobody knows about him. He has the best style and voice in my opinion of all rappers.
2:49 needs to be apllied to all human kind..ahead of his time and underrated
Funny thing. My best bro turned me on to this song last night! I’m 68 years old. I’m white! I was on my deck dancing like a fool!🤗👊! Thanks Mel
Mint tune first time I’ve really listened to the lyrics, wow so apt today
..unforgettable times.
I can listen this 1 million times. The true hip hop rules! Grandmaster Melle Me is real. I hope a remake. I'm 49 and still loves this song until today.
Poetic words... Should be a presidents speech.
Grandmaster Melle Mel’s verse is top tier. I have to run it back a couple times everytime i look at this video.
I'm hurt at 38 years old I never heard this. Melle mel verse was some of the greatest art I've ever witnessed and heard. This is the type of content that should be on the forefront of pop culture. Shame on us
This song is still one of the best what happened to rap music
it got better
The cheats the lies the alibi's .... and the foolish attemps to conquer the sky! Tell emm Melle mel!!!
How timeless is this message? It's perhaps even more applicable in 2015 than when it was created.
one of the best performances ever.
Watched this film when I was a kid. I feel.OLD!!!!
Quality lyrics that make you feel inspired to do something for yourself - Glad i grew in those days - Feel really bad for kids today..
This sure beats the days of rewinding my vcr a thousand times over just too hear this jam.
:) good to have this here , respect!
Youngsters don't know the meaning of the word!! Don't be sad these days are over just be glad if you were there to enjoy 'em I know I am!!
the words are so true even in 2024 respect Mell mel scorpio🤘
I watch this every Christmas. Before cellphones it was DVD and VHS. 😃😃😃
Still one of my favorite movies. So much talent ahead of it's time.
dammn Grandmaster Melle Mel had some real shit in his verse pree nice
legendary song,legendary film
The movie and the soundtrack to it was what got me into breakin and graffiti.. stuck with graf for some 15-20yrs.. hearing this today, damn! Im back as a kid when it was all new n fresh and magical!
If you really know hip hop, Mel is easily top 5 to ever do it. He was so far ahead of his own age and the time. He just happened to pioneer hop hop before it became mainstream. Give him his flowers, people 🎉
I am crying 😢 😭 🤧 I was so young but understood everything NYC was so different then
This will always be 1 of my favorite movies.. As a child and a 41 year old woman!! 🖤🖤💃🍷🙋
