  • While most of us are still waiting for the broadcast industry to deliver us 4K content on the regular, TV makers are pushing Hollywood toward 8K. The LG Z9 88-inch 8K OLED is not just the world's biggest OLED TV, it's also the pinnacle of what an 8K TV can be today. $30K is a huge asking price, so it's not for everyone, but nevermind all that: What's it like? We're here to show you.

    • @Red05x
      @Red05x 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @ISOHaven Well, I don't have the latest Plasma (VT60, ZT60) but I have a GT25 and a OLED B7. The OLED looks stunning... but in still images. Plasma is extremely superior when movement starts.
      My GT25 doesn't have Chroma 4:4:4 but besides that, everything looks and plays better on the Plasma.
      You can say that the new tech is better, yes. But only in still images. There is an excellent video that shows the flaws of OLED, LCD, LED, QLED. On Plasma, looks better.

    • @Red05x
      @Red05x 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ISOHaven I know, Man. But we are talking about picture quality, I guess.
      Picture quality on a Plasma haven't been beaten or equalled with other tech. Black levels on OLED is, true black. But, on moving images, Plasma is unparalleled. The price was high, I know. But after seeing content on a Plasma, at least I can see why the price.

    There is another dimension to all this that needs to be considered.
    Most of the people who can afford this TV are older. I can't afford this myself but I have recently had a technological upgrade that is more profound - much more profound - than just buying this big expensive TV. Older people have vision degradation. In the age group of 75 to 85 (the group most likely to be able to spend $40K on a TV) about 90% have cataracts.
    I'm 76. I have a 65" TCL Model 6 TV. But it didn't look that great to me. Then I had eye surgery on my left eye. I get the right one fixed next Monday. My big wall mounted TV now looks great - from my left eye. From my right eye it still looks dull, sepia tinted and blurry.
    This is not a subtle effect. When I look out the window the sky is a brilliant blue and everything is crisp and clear - from my left eye. When I close that eye and look with my right eye, everything is dim blurry and kind of brown. Until the surgery I had been disappointed with my Series 6 TLC TV. Millions of people my age are like me - probably the majority. I sensed that my vision was getting worse. But I had had no idea how bad and I never realized it could be fixed in a simple twenty minute painless operation.

  • @dcaseng

    Even if you assume that the price will come down, it's still ridiculous to pay so much money for a feature you won't realistically be able to enjoy for at least several YEARS.
    There is no guarantee we are going to get real world 8K content in the future, and even then, the difference between 8K and 4K isn't noticeable unless you stand inches away from the screen.
    Upscaling is also something that hasn't really evolved into anything worth getting excited about.
    Upscaling anything below 1080P is not impressive either, and the majority of content being watched is still cable TV, which still can't even deliver 1080P.
    Sorry, but this business model where the industry wants to see how many people actually purchase these products before they decide to push innovation is insane.

    Many years ago I bought one of the first 40” Sony Flat Screen TV’s. The price was over $10,000 when it hit the market. My fav AV store got me a “deal” and I paid $8800 tax and delivery/set-up included.
    Today this 88” 8k TV comes with nothing to watch in Native 8K. The price is equal to at least 10 top of the line OLED’s in a 65” size. I made my mistake with that Sony long ago. I’m not that naive any longer. 8k may take off like wild fire - but given the bandwidth needed for streaming, many places in the US can’t even think of streaming 8k source material and won’t for decades to come. While it is undeniably gorgeous, it’s not THAT gorgeous or that much better than our current OLED HDR 4k sets.
    Eventually we may have laser projectors on the ceiling forming holographic stages in our living rooms. But these interim steps, at such frightfully absurd prices, are not for me. While I have the room for it, and can afford it, my motto is “once bitten, twice shy” and I still remember that early Sony 40” and watching the prices drop from $10k to $8k to under $5k and down to a few hundred today. Me thinks this 8k beauty is going to travel the same path, although it won’t take it 20 years or more to do so.
    Show me the Holographic Video Projectors with plenty of source material available and my checkbook will come out, even if I have to sell one of the Tesla’s to buy it!

    When will 8k footage enter the consumer market?
    A better question is: when will industry hardware be able to play 8k footage in real-time?
    The later will be addressed first and foremost because if people in the industry can't process the footage in real time, the consumer definitely can't either.

  • @rs72098
    @rs72098 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Most movies will never convert to 8k because they were mostly shot in 35mm which usually max out at 4k. CGI is 1080p on older movies and 4k on newer movies, 8k on very new movies (2016 going forward). Only a few movies have been filmed in 70mm which max out around 12k. I personally don't think we'll go to 16k because 20/20 vision doesn't go past 12k, there's no need to use up that much memory.

      Qled is just an LCD TV. Quantum dots LED LCD TV. LCD is the panel, LED is the back lighting. You will also find QLED TVs from Sony, Vizio, Hisense, and TCL.
      Oled = organic light-emitting diode. the pixels of an OLED TV are self illuminated independently. LG is the largest OLED TV manufacturer.

    the best reason for 8k is because of the increasing size of the displays. if you have a tv twice the size of what looks alright on a 4k tv it need be 8k just to keep that level constant right.. well i think when the microled finally has a breakthru and screen sizes make a huge jump right about that time 8k will start getting an audience. by that time you will have to dedicate one wall of your house to the display. its coming and i also hope that the glasses free stereoscopic effects get worked in lol such as seen in the movie "aliens" remember that one when that happens people of the future will have a new problem with avoiding walking into tv screens that resemble real rooms a little too closely.

    Micro-OLED > OLED > Micro-LED > QLED > LED
    Micro-OLED and OLED are the best#1.
    OLED LG and Micro-LED SONY fusion to Micro-OLED.
    Micro-LED / Mini-LED / Crystal-LED / Nano-LED / NanoCell-LED / NanoMeter-LED
    Micro-OLED / Mini-OLED / Crystal-OLED / Nano-OLED / NanoCell-OLED / NanoMeter-OLED
    OLED with no backlight is the best#1 and OLED is patented to it's creator China's LG. And somewhen China's LG will partnership with Japan's SONY micro-LED to create micro-OLED. That micro-OLED would be then 50% Japan's Sony micro and 50% China's LG OLED. Those OLED and Micro-OLED will dominate every tv, monitor, displays, screens arround the whole world. I'm so hyped for OLED and micro-OLED, I am waiting so long for and I hope The Earth & I will survive to its release! But since no one agrees to my offers, the hope's chances looks very bad.
    LED has to be forbidden, because LED's backlight is unhealthy, backlight towards the face destroys the health of the eyes (very fast!) and even the health of the face-skin (after years). OLED has no backlight, OLED is the best#1. Whoever supports in building LED, who supports in fact last but not least the damage, destroyment and devolution of humans - anger, hate and lost of humanity at the end. LED's backlight is a part of those many bad wrong-going things in real life. To make this clear, ofc I don't mean RGB-LED, I mean the backlight-LED inside of TVs!
    To make this clear, "Micro-OLED / Mini-OLED / Crystal-OLED / Nano-OLED / NanoCell-OLED / NanoMeter-OLED" has never been said anywhere before me, I am the first who created that word and the fusioned technology it stands for, that means it's patented to me and if China and Sony wants to build that Micro-OLED, they have to ask me for my permission or it will be criminal theft by them. They can have my permission when they pay me 100 million €, that is not much compares to their billions!
