    Hi Kevin, I have an old First Act Drum Kit back from 2012. I have a weird problem. The rod and pedal will depress when I press on them, but the pedal and rod do not "bounce" back up. So when the assembly is complete, no matter what I do, the cymbals do not separate. Everything seems to be in working order, and no parts seem broken from what I can see.

      Hi Izzy! So there should be two nuts on the top clutch. One of those is a locking nut to make sure it doesn’t come undone. It sounds like there is not enough room to tighten the hi hat on all the way. If you can’t figure it out and would like to do a quick Skype session let me know.

      All hi hat stands function very similarly. Right above the toe of the pedal plate, you will see an adjustment dial that will turn from right to left. Try to locate that dial and adjust it. See if that works.

    • @Drummer101com
      @Drummer101com  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hope I am understanding correctly. Are you hitting the hi hat pedal and releasing your foot? Or keeping your foot pressed down. Some hi hats will ring if you press down to hard. If that is the case try not pressing down so hard and find that sweet spot.

    • @reneekortenoever4687

    • @Drummer101com

      @@reneekortenoever4687 Yes, anytime you release your foot you will hear some sort or chime. If it is too much noise try adjusting the tile screw located directly underneath the bottom hi hat. You want the bottom to be slightly tilted but too much can cause more noise when you release your foot.

    So my hi hat just falls every time I’m playing. And idk why it does this. Like if I hit it kinda hard it’ll just fall and the foot pedal doesn’t do anything.

    • @Drummer101com
      @Drummer101com  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When it falls, does the pedal control the stem on the top of the hi hats or no? If not, the stem is coming unthreaded and needs to be screwed in.

  • @gaboogablah
    @gaboogablah 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Turn the bottom hat holder around so the adjustment screw is closer to you. It keeps more consistent playing surface and better swish.
    Also, you don't need them to be open that much. Mine are about 1cm open on the wide side. And yes it still gets the chick sound with your foot.

  • @mattshay9393
    @mattshay9393 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I haven't been able to find anyone talking about this: What does it mean that my top hi hat makes a sympathetic sound as I release it? Like, when I'm playing with my foot, the cymbal sounds as the rod lifts up and hits its peak. It makes sense, the cymbal is basically being vibrated through the clutch as it shoots up and stops. But does anyone know how to reduce the noise??? It sounds very annoying and noticeable, especially when I'm playing consistent 1/8 notes with my foot.

    • @Drummer101com
      @Drummer101com  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Matt! Let me ask, are there felts on the top hat? That could be the issue.

    • @mattshay9393
      @mattshay9393 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Drummer101com Yes there are. I will say that it is a cheap stand, but it's never given me any problems in 15+ years of owning it. I keep the top hat pretty loose as well, and I have thought that could be making it worse, though I don't want to sacrifice that if I don't have to.

    my problem is that the pin that screws in to tilt keeps falling out, after playing about an hour it falls out and every day I have to screw it back in. any suggestions?

    • @Drummer101com
      @Drummer101com  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a great question. I haven’t seen that happen before. How far are you screwing it in? And does it still seem loose once it is in all the way?

    • @oceanlbi
      @oceanlbi 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Drummer101com Thanks for answering! It didn't seem loose once in, I read somewhere to try turning the hi hat so that the screw is on the side closest to me, before it was at the far end, and ever since I did that it hasn't fallen out once! I hope this can help if anyone had the same problem.

    Hey Kevin one doubt... I can close my hi hat just fine, but when I lift my foot to open it again it sord of has a delay to it, like its a bit stuck for half a second. Does it have anything to do with the little 2 tensioners right below the wing nut? Thanks

    Hey I need some help with my hi hat stand every time I tap on the pedal to hard the pedal goes down and the bottom high hat go down too making more space between my hi hat thing is is that I'm not even pushing down on the pedal hard which makes it hard for me to play plz help

    • @Drummer101com
      @Drummer101com  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay it sounds like a clutch issue. Are you tightening the wing not at the top right enough? Let's start with that.

    • @xeraedge580
      @xeraedge580 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      drummer101.com: Drum Lessons with Kevin Prince hey I have the same issue only that I tighten the key but it slowly slips down the rod until I have to ajust the top hi hat with the rod again

    • @xeraedge580
      @xeraedge580 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      by key I meant wing

    • @Drummer101com
      @Drummer101com  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Daniel Estevez okay, it could be that the wing nut is stripped. Are you making sure it is tightened down enough?

    • @Drummer101com
      @Drummer101com  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      What sounds like is actually happening is the wing nut attaching the top tube is loose, causing the bottom hat to slide down.

    • @Drummer101com

      Ian Craig is the bottom of the pedal hitting the bottom plate or floor? If that's not it, try tightening the clutch that holds the top of the hi hat.

    • @Drummer101com
      @Drummer101com  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Chris L. Do you have felts in between the top hi hat? If so, it could be the alloy in the cymbals.

    • @clikens86
      @clikens86 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @Drummer101com
      @Drummer101com  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @Drummer101com
      @Drummer101com  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      john smith What maybe happening in your case, is that the rod inside the casing of the stand is getting caught at either the center or bottom of the stand. See 1:25 Where take the tube of the stand off and move the hi hat pedal up-and-down. See if anything is getting stuck. Let me know if that works.

      In that case, you would need to tighten the top of the hi hat clutch tighter. It's the wingnut that I point to in the beginning of the video to
