also, NY is a very intense place and can be overwhelming to the nervous system -- I'm not sure what your body was telling you with the puking but damn, I'm glad you're both good!
PintoPonyProductions well, to me, I think it was totally my fault! I didn't drink nor eat before the event (yeah, I under estimated the difficulty of a marathon haha! x) ) I don't think the camera interfered in my case! :) But yeah, bad stuff does happen, specially when you think everything's fine x)
In my younger days I was a competitive runner, and our mantra was "leave everything on the track." You left everything on the track, and are wiser for it. The hero's journey continues. Thank you for sharing. I doubt Gotham has seen the last of you.
Electrolyte capsules, my friend. They take about 15-30 minutes to kick in depending on your heart rate, but they will help keep you from cramping up so you can keep going or sleep.
I came here to say this. I use nuun, 1 tablet per 16oz glass of water as per the instructions. It's good for exercise in hot weather and is way easier to stomach than Pedialyte and cheaper than gatorade when you're sick or hungover too. After huge skates when I'm a bit sick I sometimes have four or five. But in a pinch bananas and table salt in the right quantity will do. I suspect that you know all this stuff already, I'm just saying it for anyone watching and wondering about it.
I recently left NYC for work, but many friends who visited often got sick. New York overstimulates many people and you took in a LOT for 36 hours. It usually takes about 3 or 4 days to grow accustomed to the city flow and diversity, but it was a great to know the inside story, thanks bill! on 3 wheels for life
Damn B, when you said lets go back in time and then drop the old intro music it almost caught me in the feels. Well played, Warrior of the Blunted Blade.
Loved the NYC recap, Bill! I cannot wait to go back and roll New York City again. It now feels like I was a complete noob when I was there only a few years back; I kinda knew it at the time too! I also knew I wouldn't be returning anytime soon and I didn't want to miss rolling one of the world's most iconic cities. Things will be very different next time.
As a filmmaker myself that’s just rediscovering my skills and passion for inline skating, I must say your B-roll was pretty great. Would love to see your passion video work. Obviously your channel is amazing. Learning a ton.
Good vid, bud! These shots were really great and I'm glad you could at least experience NYC a bit. We all have to face obstacles when we're skating on this bumpy road, but some of us will encounter different kinds of obstacles. My problem is that our roads and sidewalks are really crappy and full of cracks everywhere. I don't even need cramps to get in a shitty situation at times; but, I just started, so I guess it can only get easier from here on. Also, thanks once again for all your tutorials and instructional videos! Really helped me out!
Looks like you got caught up in between skating for pure fun and skating for youtube. Don't sweat it though, people watch your channel for the passion you bring to the scene and your motivation to share it. Besides, a little wake up call is always a good thing :) keep it up! cheers
This is an insightful comment. I could tell something was off during the NY videos and I'd place the blame entirely on trying to create a Skater Hunter concept in a new city rather than just scoping the place out and following locals. As Lino says, remember why we started skating in the first place - it's meant to be fun! Great video Bill, told the story.
I'd have passed out in that tunnel. I hope you do a documentary about your life one day. From the moment you first put your first skates until now. And I wish I could see footage of you playing hockey.
The water was a good choice but in longer interval events i find stuff like Powerade or Gatorade to be useful, both to boost performance and recovery. You wouldn't have cramped half as much.
I did something similar one day I went out for hours, came back home and my stomach under my sternum was hurting so bad. I was almost ready to check in at an ER because I didn't know what was happening. On some skate forums, found out my glucose dropped really low. Some Gatorade, and a pb&j sandwich really helped.
ATXrollerblader how’s the scene here in Austin? Bout to buy my first set of in-lines in 15 years... was decently fast back when and looking forward to some cross training for cycling stuff. Settling in on some K2 VO2-S 100 BOA’s, then maybe something like Powerslide Trinities for more agility. Any feedback is appreciated!
Damn, the end of your stay in NYC. Hope you won't have to go through that again ;) "Next time it's not about the people, but about the beer". Words to live by :D
Tips for keeping your gains while regularly skating for extended periods of time? Do you have any way of tracking your caloric expenditure while rolling?
It has been a long whiiile since I've watched your videos my friend, watching this one only goes to show me why i subscribed and like your channel. Lucky #13 i am the 13th like on here. Keep up the good work friend, i am also a fan of your narrating beside yoir dope skating videos. Cheers!
That happened this pass Big Apple Roll skate weekend. We did about 35+ miles from lower Manhattan to the Yankees stadium and back. I wiped out pretty bad on a soap soaked side walk and got road rash on my side. That night I was rudely awaken by two cramps and rubbing it didn’t help I had to crawl to the bathroom and make a heat press to stop the pain and even after that it stuck around just not as painful as it was first. #Skaterstruggle You should come to The Big Apple Roll next year bill almost over 100 Skaters it’s so dope and run with Sonic next time you go he knows how to fly thru the traffic
Wow, this vid was great. And oddly bittersweet. I wonder what the reason is for the trouble you had with your muscles and stamina. The NYC summer heat, maybe? Lack of proper nutrition? (Leon was smart to give you that banana for the potassium content, if you like coconut water that might’ve helped as well). Have you ever had these issues while skating around Toronto or anywhere else? I’m genuinely curious about this but I’m glad you’re feeling better :) and I agree with the other commentators here, NYC can be an intense shock to the system that takes some getting used to.
It was straight up dehydration and heat exhaustion, I just lost more water on those two days than I could absorb. I skated too much and I underestimated the windless factor of a hot day(s) in NY. Yes, the Banana was a huge stroke of luck!
Shit, stopped at 0.54 seconds and am afraid to continue, your face was definitely predicting shit!!! man I gotta say your channel is awesome!!!! here I go....
This is what happens in NYC.. crazy giant place. The video footage and editing was breathtaking. Was a pity that the place fucked you so hard though...
Are you a former personal trainer? You do know about electrolyte solutions? Sugar and salt solutions for rehydration? Would have saved you a lot of discomfort. Hey ho, you youngsters will learn eventually.
@@beefnacos6258, no...I think that's water. He needed fat. He already said he was drinking a ton of water and couldn't get enough. Water will fuck you up. It flushes all your nutrients out of the body.
NY is one of the worst police states in the world , ever since I moved out, I haven't gotten a ticket since . I used to get tickets every week. Thank god I left.
Oh my! Sounds like a horrible fluid and electrolyte imbalance that you have experienced. When I saw the footage in the tunnel I thought you look very dehydrated. Hate the heat and humidity. Non alcoholic beer is well known to take care of such problems. Seriously.
Thanks so much for the non-alcoholic beer tip Arina, sounds way better than Gatorade. That gaunt tunnel footage has since served as daily inspiration for me to drink and eat more!
You packed an awful lot into a relatively short time.. Too much to be comfortable. And dehydration sucks..Literally. Awesome video though.. Again, we benefit from your skills as a photographer/videographer, witty narrator, and skater. Do take better care of yourself! ;)
Bill, a similar thing happened to me when I was filming my Inline Skating marathon vid ! I understand you ! ^^"
Doing a marathon is tough enough, shooting vid during it is...heavy. It seems that the camera in hand interferes with my brain and critical thinking.

Tiago Inline Skater hai!
You have to wonder if Eddy Matzger didn't videotape many of his marathons, how many more he could have won.

I've lived in this city my whole life and I had no idea a spot like this existed. I gotta explore and find it myself once it's warm again.
Where is this spot? 0.o
@@ArtOfRaving pretty sure this is the Brooklyn Banks skatepark by the Brooklyn Bridge on the Manhattan side.

I agree, a whimsical scoping on first night would have been smart and stress free.
Cool! Looks like the "brooklyn bomb" of inline skating. I'd definitely go back to NYC for this.
Awesome vid. Felt like a mini documentary. Any chance of getting a vid of an interview with Leon or the other mushroom bladers in the future?
Thanks D, Will defo do a Leon interview some day would love the MB crew too.

Follow the NYC inline skate scene here. TH-cam.com/BladeInNY had a fun time skating with you bill maybe we can film an episode together next time.
When do yu guys restart the Tuesday skate runs? I'm from Jersey would truly benefit learning first hand with yu guys
