Miss those family times when I was growing up! Both my parents worked and I spent most of my early years with my grandparents and great grandparents. That's where I learned my most important life skills and interests - how to cook, garden, sew, fish, forage, etc. Precious memories those! Society has changed so much since those days! I will absolutely be making this delicious cake, Greg. Can't wait to see what other treasures from your aunt that you're going to share with us!!

Good Morning Mr. Greg . Thanks for sharing . Your Aunt's applesauce cake recipe . Looks so delicious . My Mom used to make this cake . If my Daddy was around . When it came out of the oven . He would slice a big piece . And lay butter inside of it . That's how he like to eat all cakes . You Have A Blessed Day .

My grandma used to make something similar. She also used to make an oatmeal cake. She called it breakfast cake. Not sure if it was really a breakfast cake or not or something to irritate my mom that she was feeding us cake for breakfast LOL. She'd take leftover oatmeal to make it. My mom made one called the Dannon Applesauce cake, I think the recipe came out in the 70's or 80's. Mom made it for us and called it a snack cake.

Oh Greg this one brought back lots of memories. I don't know as grandma used buttermilk I don't remember a lot of buttermilk being used but maybe it was but this was almost a specialty cake in the winter time when we didn't have a lot of fresh fruits and stuff. I do remember occasional raisins or nuts appearing in it and sometimes if it was Sunday dinner grandma would put on a vanilla sauce kind of like she used to make for gingerbread to put on it. She also used to make an apple sauce pie that was not a big fat pie it was almost a flat pie that I think was kind of a forbearer of Pop-Tarts before we had Pop-Tarts and I don't think it had any sickening or anything I think it was just more applesauce and spices. It was one of those goodies also that just appeared occasionally.

@@gregscumberlachiakitchen I'm not even sure she had a recipe may have tightened the applesauce up with a little bit of flour but I'm sure it was just the same seasonings that she put in the apple pie apple cobbler you know what I mean good bit of cinnamon. I do remember it was a very flat looking pie feeling lonely about a half an inch thick although that's all you really needed. Also something that I didn't say is she sprinkled sugar and cinnamon over the top crust. It was fed to us as a breakfast as a snack as a treat usually not as a dessert but sometimes that too. Very simple and I'm sure it was old-fashioned. Not sure how much applesauce she used pretty sure whatever was in one canning jar whether that was a quart or a pint you know what I mean she didn't use halves of anything.

@@gregscumberlachiakitchen also if you're truly searching for a recipe she had an Amish Mennonite background so you might find something like that there I don't know I've never looked it for it I have fudged it together a couple times and I always came out good

Good question! Most of these recipes I have made forever. But fortunately I can look at a recipe and read it a couple times and remember it. Most recipes come together about the same as others so it's usually just the changing of ingredients or such.

Dear Gregg pleased not take my comments as criticism. I am just giving some
constructive feedbacks. Your applesauce cake is yummy but I won't be baking it for the reason do not do cup measurements. A cup is of various sizes in most countries in UK Asia Australia all are different measurements. Hence this will effect the end product because of the ingredients especially the evening agents. Also it might too dry too sickly sweet etc I shy away from anerican recipes because of this unless they give the measurements in metric also. Sorry and tq.
