Saw Thelma last night, it was just okay. Maybe not the best due to the predictable writing, but this was an improvement from The monkey King or Leo in terms of quality with its voice cast, animation done at Mikros, and score done by John Powell!!! I do have hopes for In Your Dreams, Ultraman, and Spellbound later this year
Watched Thelma when it came out on Netflix last Friday. It ain't no Bad Guys... ...but I still had a good time with it. And when you said "pop stars being cast in a major role that I will talk about in an upcoming review" at 6:24... ...oh, man. I already know what film you're talking about. Man, that Smurfs film has such a random cast....
Honestly, this film was alright. Definitely felt generic in some aspects and juvenile in others, but what kept me watching was the heart and catchy songs. 6/10
Yeah this movie ended up being worse than I thought. The humor was especially bad just because most of it was a bunch of toilet humor. It gave me some chuckles, I really liked the bond between Otis and Thelma, Brittany Howard did a great job especially with her singing, the first and last songs were pretty good, great animation, and Jermaine Clement gave a good performance. Overall maybe a second viewing will make it click with me better but for now this movie is a 5/10. It isn’t bad but it definitely needed some work.
Thelma the unicorn was a fun cute little film like you said but the predictable musician story and lack of originality can hold this movie back. The pop star they got to play the main character did a fine job but leave the acting to actual actors Hollywood it doesn't usually work out like you wish as a 7 out of 10 is a fair score. Next time Garfield's big movie come back.
That one dream sequence about Otis' dungeons and dragons game did look exciting and cool, but it only lasted for a few seconds

In my country many animated movies are dubbed by pop stars( or regular professional VAs 😉)
7/10
