The Constitution of India does not allow holding Indian citizenship and citizenship of a foreign country simultaneously. Based on the recommendation of the High Level committee on Indian Diaspora, the Government of India decided to grant Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) commonly known as ‘dual citizenship’. Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) of certain category as has been specified in the Brochure who migrated from India and acquired citizenship of a foreign country other than Pakistan and Bangladesh, are eligible for grant of OCI as long as their home countries allow dual citizenship in some form or the other under their local laws.

1. Allow dual citizenship for indian citizen living in trustworthy countries.
2. If a citizen committed crime and run away to another country, do a temporary cancellation of his/her Indian citizenship.
3. Allow Indian citizenship only for those who born in India.
I believe following these steps may solve the problem!!
Note: I am not an expert. This is my solution, it may be wrong!
Having a different citizenship one can have trouble but for INDIA it's the best policy, it closes countless loopholes and misuse.

It's a bad idea to not have it. It's difficult for NRIs who have taken up other citizenships to continue their relationship with their home country. You're losing the talent permanently.

India should allow dual citizenship but politicians and indian bureaucrats should not be allowed to do so
OCI is a de-facto dual citizenship for all intents and purposes. The caveats of not being allowed to vote or stand for public office are extremely reasonable for foreign citizens, if it means they have all other rights and perks of Indian citizens.
Infact getting a citizenship of a country with a stronger passport and then getting an OCI card will give you a competitive advantage as you don't have to worry about visas in a lot of countries

@@topgear_75 not exactly. You're not allowed to go to restricted sites, buy farm land, serve the military or hold any public office/vote.
Rest rights are all the same. It's treated as an ID, there's unlimited unrestricted access to India, it allows you to work, study and do business (the main things people care about). You only have to pay taxes on your income in India. And as permanent residency, you get almost all the perks as a citizen would.
If voting rights are a significant factor for you, then yes I'd agree with you. But to be frank many wouldn't mind if they're a foreign citizen. We're not like UK which allows Commonwealth residents to vote regardless of citizenship (I'm not joking)
Nope oci doesn’t give you voting rights or to join government jobs,ahaaa card ,ration card and etc. an oci cars holder cannot even buy land and needs to go to through jurisdictions. Dual citizenship is actually full rights as a citizenship and oci is not on the level
@@melroyreus3417 wrong. Contrary to popular belief, AADHAR is not a citizenship card and "residents" of India are eligible for Aadhar as long as they're either Indian citizens or legal immigrants. OCI card holders are latter.
Ration card anyway is not required by foreign citizens as it's obvious that they had the funds to legally go abroad.
And as for voting and public rights, this is exclusively reserved for citizens all over the world, and it should be. A foreigner shouldn't mind not having this right, as long has he's getting all the rest of the perks as other Indian citizens. OCI is more akin to Green Card. So if voting is so important for you, then yes I may agree with you. But otherwise it's a de-facto dual citizenship though with reasonable caveats

I still can't understand that foreigners can choose Indian citizenship but don't leave their original citizenship, and Indian government allows that!

Not sure, how obtaining a two citizenship, renouncing Indian citizenship? Its like having both. I have seen some absurd arguments like "phir to Pakistanis can also become Indian citizen". All our politicians will take money and take it abroad, as if they are not already doing so".
As an NRI desh bhakts like me having a dual citizenship, will open doors to multiple foreign countries without needing a visa. I can spread the message of our heritage and culture without having in que for a visa.

Bro India should allow dual or multiple citizenship. Just think about the people jo two countries se belong karte hai, jese mein. Mere pas india ki citizenship nhi hai bcz i born and I live in another. Par mere liye dono countries equal hai. I want ki mein dono countries ki citizen kehelau, and I also want to volunteer in both militaries. And it's not possible because India's government doesn't allow this. Not really, for example my cousin who earns around 1.5 cr. He has to pay around 28% tax in USA, where now when he is working form India at the same pakage, he has to pay around 30% tax.

Although, with the USA if you start adding insurance/medical costs because their is no Governmnet provision for that, and then add rent/monthly mortgage rates, bills for electricity, gas, phone, mobile, broadband etc. Everything starts getting considerably more expensive than India! India is cheaper for almost all thing except for Technology/gadgets and maybe home loan interest rates.
So your cousin is probably able to keep more percentage of their income in India.
Now, USA is different - If you look at other Western countries then everything is usually that + other insurance costs.

Apni Indian citizenship rakh ke bhi doosre desho me kaam kiya jaa sakta hai. But the NRI's have chosen to be the citizens of a different country. Our country doesn't need to be a second choice for someone. If they want to go, they are most welcome. Also, dual citizenship hone se desh ki sovereignty pe bhi aanch aa sakti hai.
This is a very primitive way of thinking imo. The fact remains that the western countries are way more lucrative in terms of financial independence than India. Putting our self interests ahead should not be condoned. Plus NRIs are very important to the country as they send money back to family in India which increases the Forex reserves which are then used to import goods. Having dual citizenship will provide a further incentive to our foreign expats to send more money as foreign currency which will ease a lot of pressure on our existing forex reserves which would also reduce the need to buy more dollars further strengthening the rupee.

This video seems like more of opinions rather then facts. If we leave indian citizenship their is no way back home. In india when someone give up citizenship his whole family have to do so after some time. My uncle is in canada he have PR but he have to let go of his indian citizenship for voting rights etc which can not be done just with pr. But the issue was he didn't wanted to leave his citizenship he wanted to come back to India after 10 years. And just because he is now a Canadian citizen his whole family is going to Canada now. But he can't get indian citizenship because it is very complicated. In shot their is no way back home. If india allow duel citizenship people will go to other counties work for 10-15 years and come back to homeland without any visa issue.
And how exactly india get benefited
