    This IS Ren's Story. The Doctors literally told him that all the pain he was feeling was in his head. Instead of treating him for Lyme Disease (Sick Boi, Sick Boi, Bitten by a Tick Boi), they gave him psycho-active/tropic drugs. The fact that the medical community basically Denied what he was going through caused even more problems for him (Psychosis) as he thought he really was "crazy". He's stated publicly that he has developed PTSD surrounding "Medical Professionals".....now you understand why he sees them as PIGS (the pig mask).

    • @smack_pop7

      Yeah agree, he basically got in this situation so severe because of medical system failing to diagnose him properly. And the damage this disease does to the body left untreated for this long is unimaginable

      Its actually SUPER common for people with autoimmume diseases to get misdiagnosed for years, or be told its psychosomatic, or be treated like we are drug addicts looking for medications. Last i looked it took on AVERAGE 6 different doctors to actually find autoimmune treatment.

    For me the loud beat in the background in the beginning when she's speaking is pretty much how he feels when he's these professionals he can't hear what he suppose to hear he's focusing on breathing and then just answers whatever they want to hear because he knows there not helping him but actually killing him slowly. He's a genius 🔥

      Yes yes and unfortunately regardless of where you live the medical systems are filled with people who have been over worked and stopped caring about people and what they are going through. I am also chronically ill for over 10 years and understand this intimately unfortunately.

    • @jules3048
      @jules3048 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also always thought it was louder cause what they had to say was truly meaningless and not really any need to hear it at the end of the day. I mean this isn’t always the case. I’ve had lots of good medical advice and help. But that’s from his perspective and a lot of others.

      This soundscape is exactly what it feels like in any medical mental health treatment or detox I've ever been. If someone cared enough to ask what it's like to be locked up for days in this kind of treatment o would just play this video because words are not enough. If this makes anyone uncomfortable or confused think about anyone u know struggling with mental issues or addiction and dial it up to 11 and try your best to empathize

    my sister got limes disease when she was young.. it was the start of her downfall as she slowly fell apart, losing weight. She consumed more pills than food daily and no one could figure out what she had. Just in that past couple years did we finally figure out that she had limes disease.. so yeah this definitely resonates with me, albeit I didn't get effected directly, I witnessed it.

    It took almost 30 years for them to figure out that I have Lupus. Years of them telling you “it’s all in your head”, will make you crazy. People with symptoms that are subjective should always have a rheumatologist consult. Most GP’s and ER docs have no clue about autoimmune diseases.

    • @Bea359
      @Bea359 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Also "it's all in your head" is completely wrong because most often the stress and trauma we've experienced are the causes of our physical symptoms but doctors don't know how to properly help people help from it so just end up gaslighting us instead of helping...

  • @konzis1926
    @konzis1926 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    It’s national folk, it’s Bulgarian voices, super famous way of singing. A lot of different groups. The last of stromae (l’enfer) is beginning with Bulgarian voices too, it’s an old art of singing in the same note, and the ritz is 7\8 which is also very special. It takes 6-8 hours of practicing, daily. In this track he elevated the tone, probably because of excelerating the tempo…anyway, I am so happy as Bulgarian that such creative people like REN and STROMAE are sampling them and both interestingly doing it for mental problem themes….so good…love it.❤❤❤❤

  • @Penddraig7
    @Penddraig7 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    Also ref Boi, I might be wrong in modern context but when I was at school, it was an urban slang term, an alternate spelling of the word Boy like as in the hip-hop scene, take Flav-o-flav’s Yeah Boi catchphrase for example, there was nothing more to it than that, in my day anyway ie the 90’s

      I looked it up after they spoke of it, and there's plenty of evidence online for what he says, but it's not my experience, and my kid, who's part of the 'alphabet army' looked at me like a crazy old person when I asked. I suspect it may be getting redefined backasswards. `people without a clue decided it had to do with a particular group THEY have issues with, and enough of them beleive it that it's become a meaning of it.

    I love how he made the music just almost too loud to really hear her, to portray what it's like for him to listen to her over his loud mind. Also, yes the mind can make you sick, but in this case that was the MISdiagnosis, when in actuality he has Lyme disease, and her diagnosis was dead wrong.
    The pig butcher is how Dark Ren (in regards to the dichotomy portrayed in "Hi Ren") sees the doctor/therapist.
    He was signed by Sony some time in the past, and they dropped him because he was going through all this rather than recording. So his ire for the music industry was tied to the same ire for the medical industry...they both just wanted him to take pills and act okay.

      Ren uses ideas from Animal Farm and orwell’s 1984. Pig I’ve heard in animal farm really represents, narcissism, moneytary game, egotism. Your right that we treat all these different symptoms in medical field rather than looking for the root cause of all the problems showing up! Ren was misdiagnosed for almost 9 years. Put on many drugs including heavy anti-psychotics that change brain chemistry forever. Besides the effects of Lyme that he was dealing with unknowingly, he has major organ damage, cartilage damage and brain damage especially to the myelin sheath of the brain. He’s-now developed mast-cell activation disorder that they’re working on a n Canada. He receives daily IV infusions, and had recently undergone quite a few surgeries. Digestion is majorly affected as he can only eat a handful of foods. Medical industry and pharmaceutical industry…. Follow the $$$$

    At 14 I began symptoms similar to my severely bipolar grandmother; I was treated as a guinea pig for years, switched from med to med, hospitalized. Meanwhile, I confined wild wild manic episodes - like straight up running away for days when I was only 15. Deep, deep depression - not eating, or leaving the house, not answering the phone, not showing up to my job, showering. I went through that for 17 years, sometimes just saying fuck treatment, embracing mania, self-medicating… I finally found an amazing psychiatrist, but it wasn’t until I was 31 years old and had a massive postnatal break down. 17 years I waited for someone to diagnose me and carefully consider the right medications for me. I’ve been treating with her for almost 9 years on the same medication regimen. It’s by far the longest I’ve ever stuck with treatment.
    Mental health is a is a battlefield. It marred 17 years of my life. I was 33 before someone truly listen to me and put me on the right treatment. We’ve definitely come far since my 1997 induction into the system. But it’s still very much a hit or miss, what the fuck system.
    Sorry, rant over.

    He was actually signed with Sony before he was misdiagnosed. He got released when he got sick. He had Lyme disease but they kept telling him it was in his head and giving him other drugs. It wasn’t until he went to Belgium that they figured it out. But by then he had already brain damage and deterioration. After spending 10 yrs sick with it he is still having operations and tons of meds to try to get right and rebuild brain tissue.

    I think in ren's case..he was misdiagnosed to hv mental issues..saying his health issues were caused by his mind or upbringing or some pycho bullshit.. when in fact he actually had a physical disease caused by a tick bite that caused all his health issues including attacking him physically n psychologically...
    When Drs couldn't figure out what's causing all those physical health symptoms...sometimes they r too quick to push it or attribute them to a psychological diagnosis n peddle more pills to patients..not concerned about what the side effects r to the patient. Just my take on what Ren was trying to say in the song...expressing his anger n frustration of what he went through.

    Medical PTSD is fairly common, especially when you've been ignored about a problem or denied treatment, or the misdiagnosis of something. I suddenly started having blackouts, and tremors that lasted minutes back in 2011, but doctors kept insisting it was just for attention. It wasn't until 2014 that I finally got an EEG, and was diagnosed with three types of epilepsy and after six months on treatment, I went from 100+ a day to around a dozen a week. I've had new doctors still treat my seizures like it's attention seeking when they're literally seeing the proof in my brain waves. Medical field can be incredibly traumatizing, and not nearly enough people realize that. The people who are supposed to help you can ignore you, turn shit around and make you out to be the bad guy, or even harm you, instead. Rare/uncommon diseases, chronically ill, and women are often victims to those "professionals".

    I think, is the correct punctuation for that line. He’s critiquing several of the world’s systems that have failed him; he talks about how he was sick due to being misdiagnosed by the medical and psychological health industries for 8 years of his life.
    He’s ranting and venting like someone who has been wrongly imprisoned and who has lost almost a decade of his best years of his life.

    I really appreciate your little talk about mental health medication and treatment, there is no one size fits all treatment for what people are dealing with. We live in a sick society with sick people and no one seems to know how to help or fix it. Medications have their place but some people just need someone to listen to their situation and give a shit instead of pushing them through the system. Ren sees that the sickness can be within us but when you reach out for help and don't have the knowledge or tools yet to stand on your own society and culture can make things so much worse. If anyone is struggling with mental illness and ever needs someone to talk to leave a comment here and I will do my best to reach out

Here, the drugs they had put him on were things that he did not need, with some bad side effects and consequences. (My Ren Knowldge comes from comments on other videos, so I might have a detail or 2 wrong)
    I think the pig in a butcher costume is meant to represent many things. It is a double, triple (maybe more?) entendre for the point that our capitalist society has reached. Rich pigs are butchering us and our sanity to sell every little bit they bleed from us. We as humans are destroying (butchering) our planet without a single thought of trying to slow down. Specific doctors in his history that constantly misdiagnosed him and royally screwed him up all because they were only thinking about pushing pills, and not listening to him or believing him, because the butcher doesn't listen to the cries of the animal as they kill it and let it bleed. (not a vegan/vegetarian rant, just sticking with the theme). It's sad to see hope pulled from someone so viciously, and it happens way too much today.
    also, you guys are wrong about boi, for sure, it is just a different spelling for people that want to be clever, funny, ironic, etc. I think he is using it for a reason, just not the reason you speculated on.
    I also think you should double-check those numbers on lgbtq+ kids, and also check how many stay lgbtq+ once they grow to adulthood. A fair bit of those are just trying to discover who they are as they grow up, and part of that is questioning their gender or attraction, it is just more out in the open now than it used to be because society has allowed these people to be more open with who they are (which is a great thing because it gives them a chance to discover who they are without the fear of being completely ostracized [though many still are]). Many people that say they are bi in this stage of life end up leaving this phase completely straight again, while many stay bi and some leave this stage having discovered that they are gay. When it comes to Trans kids, the numbers people spout online are usually incorrect (I don't know the exact numbers, which is why I'm not saying numbers here). The reality is that there are a lot fewer trans kids than many people claim, and even fewer that are allowed to be put on hormone blockers before puberty truly sets in and makes their life harder. It takes a lot of therapy to be allowed to be put on hormone blockers, and it is the same thing for being put on transition drugs and transitioning. It is a lot harder to undo a transition, so there are a lot of steps involved to make sure that this is the person really becoming who they are and who they want to be before anything happens medically.
    Sorry, this turned out longer than I planned, but I believe that as an influencer it is important for you to be knowledgeable of the facts when you talk on important topics like this. And I think you telling your viewers to correct you in the comments about things like the boi thing is important as it opens the door for both you and your viewers to learn and expand your knowledge on many subjects, so I commend you on that and wish more people would say things like that.
    Have a great day!

      I hate to think what damage the years of misdiagnosis have caused REN, both physically & mentally & emotionally. He’s had doctors laugh at him, which I find unforgivable (professionally) and beyond cruel! Surely the human reaction to someone trying to explain their pain, should be empathy, concern & any doctor worth his training should want to know how to help, not to laugh at the suffering of ANYONE, especially not someone so obviously asking for, and needing, help. That REN is still able to put his obvious talent & brilliant mind to such excellent use is a testament to his determination & the obvious love & support he’s had from those that love him & genuinely care about him. Doctors are too prideful by far!

      I just have a question about your paragraph o n trans people and hormone blockers and therapy. I know for a fact as I have worked for endocrine specialists and they do not have any system of mental therapy in place although I think they should. A close friend of mine from high school in fact went through a transition a few years ago (this person was in early 30s in age) got zero therapy and already was dealing with borderline personality disorder. After the change this person committed suicide and I am very close with her mom and she blames the sudden shift in hormones as the main factor. If this a trend that keeps continuing there def needs to be more discussion about the effects and more importantly the causes of this shift in our culture so that people can feel accepted for who they are without dangerous potentially consequences

      In Many countries therapy goes along with this sort of change. Perhaps the medical system in your country isn’t up to par. Before agreeing with your friends, mother, perhaps you should also consider other things that might’ve contributed to your friends suicide. Like society, judging, and threatening the lives of transgendered people. Not saying, the lack of therapy was not a factor I’m just saying it most likely was not the only factor. forgive me if I misunderstood your comment. I am in no way making light of your friend or suicide in general.

    "essentially your mind is making you sick" is statement that shifts the responsibility of the struggles on the patient. Makes you feel broken. It's not a lie but it is also extremely condescending to say to someone who is struggling. That is one of the aspects I believe is tried to convey here, the cold, distant, uncaring system that is providing us "care" with big corporations standing behind them feeding them with money. On top of the emphasis of Ren been misdiagnosed for bipolar for years before they figured out that his pain was lyme disease.

      Drugs are tools, like crutches when you break your leg. They are there to help along side healing and physiotherapy. Your treatment doesn't work if you keep walking with crutches when the bone has mended. And that's the problem. So easily we are given meds and then left to our own devices, then treated with more pills to fix the sides or caused problems of the previous one. And sometimes you don't need crutches but they give you them anyway because medical is a business.

    I think you’re talking about the difference between “Reactive Depression” & “Major Depressive Disorder” (aka Clinical Depression). The latter is due to a chemical imbalance & is when medication is most useful.
    Regarding mental illness associated with Lyme Disease, both types could occur- either due to the symptoms Lyme Disease causes (Reactive) and/or the damage it causes to the brain (MDD). Whilst rare, psychosis can also occur.

    Re: drugs for mental illness. Every time I've felt better on meds I've gone off. To pretty bad results. That just didn't work for me. Yes, it took many years of trial and error with lots of doctors, but I finally found the right medication. And even though I'm a LOT older than when I first experienced depression (I'm in my 60s now so it's been 40 years), and maybe enough has changed so that I don't need the meds, I'm not going off again. I have bloodwork every 6 months to make sure my carious medications aren't making me even sicker, and so far so good, but just like I stay on my blood pressure medication, I'll keep taking my antidepressants. Thanks for another great reaction.

Can barely walk, the pain is intense in the feet. I did contact my doctor and it is one of the side effects. I am stopping the medication, I am on two other meds for BP so I am still getting the meds needed. I am in early stages of heart failure and have a narrow blockage of one heart artery. So . . . I am not happy with the side effects, it's awful. I still have some swelling of the feet but slowly very slowly not as bad and soon should get better since stopping the medication. Be careful out there people and get info on all medication and KNOW what the side effects could be on what you are prescribed.

    40% of kids? That isn’t true. But anyway, the “mind making you sick” reference in this case means when doctors tell you your issues are psychosomatic, which is a horrible thing to do, especially if they haven’t tested the person for autoimmune or other disorders. It took two years for my diagnosis, mine is an incurable, chronic condition. Ask anyone with an autoimmune condition and they will probably tell you some doctor told them it was in their head, and that alone can make you crazy because what you are going through is real and they tell you it isn’t, until you find the doctors who figure it out and get you on a better treatment plan. It can suck years of your life away that you can’t get back.

      There IS a new study out from Arizona Christion University that shows up to 39% of Gen Z identify as LGBTQ. Can't speak on how reliable it is, but it does exist. And I have to say, based on interaction with young people in my own family and friends, it is a lot higher than what other studies have shown. I think a large portion of it is there are a lot more identifying as bisexual, and non-binary.

    Ya'll need to stop speaking on issues that you do NOT understand. The only "social contagion" part of the trans community is that social media means the world is more interconnected and people have access to other people who are experiencing the same issues. So people are aware that they are not alone in how they feel, that there's a name for it...there's no contagion aspect, just access to information.
    You managed to turn a reaction to Ren's song into some serious "old man yelling at clouds" vibes.

      What makes you think we don’t understand? Because it doesn’t conform to your way of thinking? This social experiment we are doing right now is causing much more harm than good. Suicide attempts and successes are going up since we started creating these categories. It may not fit with your beliefs, but us old guys have been around long enough to see these patterns form. To deny a social contagion is to live in your own echo chamber. - B -

      More than four decades of lived experience.
      Along with increased awareness comes increased scrutiny. If you not only had to deal with having your brain trapped in the wrong body, but also had to deal with politicians trying to regulate your bodily functions, ignorant bigots weighing in on your right to exist, family disowning you because you finally had the language to explain to them what you were feeling, steadily increasing numbers of us being murdered for being who we are (and police not putting in the work to solve our cases because we are considered disposable because we are often forced into high risk lifestyles due increased homelessness and decreased employability...and, as final indignity deadnamed and misgendered in media and by our so-called loved ones), and folks on TH-cam making sweeping generalisations about what THEY see as an epidemic just because we finally have the means to make ourselves seen, you'd probably think about snuffing it more often, too.

    • @brianadams3189
      @brianadams3189 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@CedricandBrian I had to engage with this part of your comment... "creating these categories"? Elagabalus, a roman Caesar was a trans woman. Ancient Sumerian descriptions of trans people exist, many native Americans considered a trans person to simply be a being with two souls. Early Christian regarding the gender of Adam and Eve(while they were still one being) discussed intersex individuals as well as trans. There is a LONG history of the existence of trans people. Also, as far as it being a "fad" or some sort of social experiment; while I can see how you could make that argument for US Citizens, I would bet that the trans community in Pakistan is not going through the danger and fear of transitioning to comply with an American fad.
      Now, as far as LGBTQIA+ individuals being 40% of Gen Z individuals, that may not be backed up by any current studies but let's just say it's factual for the sake of the discussion. If so, perhaps it's because they have a better understanding of the sociology of sexual attraction vis-a-vis the Kinsey Scale as compared to you and members of your generation.
      For example, bisexuality is a spectrum that ranges from the capacity to aesthetically judge a member of your sex for an advantage in the evolutionary arms race of breeding, to a person who is equally attracted to either gender and more. An understanding of that sort of spectrum could lead a large portion of people to put themselves into the category of LGBTQIA+.
