- Many have dreamed of an Undertaker vs. Sting showdown for years and years. As Sting approaches retirement, The Undertaker sends a warm message to the WCW legend, who is currently in his final run at All Elite Wrestling.

The fact that Sting was in WWE and they didn’t at the very least have a face off between Sting and Undertaker is one of the biggest fumbles in WWE history.

Sting going to the WWE was a huge mistake and the WWE dropped the ball. Sting knows it that's why he went to aew to get talent over and be protected. He has control over his character and free reign how to end it. Sad we never see these two legends

Thats only cause the indies weren't as big as now.The wrestlers now have more options than wcw,ecw and wwe now.

Undertaker was Mean Mark Calloway in WCW and he was on his way back to WCW be4 the biker gimmick. That's how he got the green light from Vince to do it. He's loyal to a fault.

By that logic, Sting was also loyal to a fault. He was in the same boat in '90 or '91 when he was thinking about Flair's recommendation to go to WWE before he talked himself out of it.
They were both the: "Keystones" during the Monday night war.
Even if they never had a match, I wish we would've gotten an in ring segment between them.

Sad that the reason Sting stayed away from the WWE for all those years is exactly what ended up happening to him once he joined. So much potential with Sting on the roster...and they made him job to HHH right out of the gate. Undertaker v Sting was something every wrestling fan has wanted for a loooooong time...just sad we never got it when we actually could have.

I’d love to see Taker and Sting in a spectacular one off event promoted to the hilt.
I always saw Sting, especially back in the days as Crow Sting, as WCW's Undertaker. He stayed there and have been loyal to the end, he even sunk with the ship, as a captain would do.
They had a really similar, sinister aura, they struck fear when they approached the ring, and so on.
It's a shame we never saw a match between these two. It would have been a WrestleMania main event caliber match, and would have been a total draw. I wonder what went through Vince's mind to not even have the idea of that match, and capitalize a max on it.

I like that The Undertaker didnt just disappear into retirement. Hes still out and about doing this and that. Keeping busy. Just cause you cant go in the ring anymore doesnt mean you dont have anything to offer.
I’d argue that he’s actually showing guys who are about to retire exactly how to do it! He saved all of his best stories, he’s giving good advice, he’s making his occasional appearances, he’s happy and healthy, etc.
He's basically turned over a whole new page, and I love that he's not so much "Undertaker" these days, but more "'Taker" or even just Mark, shooting the breeze, telling his stories and showing us all a completely different side of him that we never got to experience in WWF/E.
well he did recent get on Nxt and and gave breaker a chokeslam last thing he said before his retirement was never say never so he may at some point do 1 more match for a special event or something
The Undertaker actually has a pretty likeable personality. Friendly but tough.

I’ve actually never even thought about this happening & never understood the comparisons. I would’ve always loved to see Taker & Abyss stare off though & have a match. But then again others would say “but what about Kane?” & I’d say “what about him? Taker vs Abyss is money, but Abyss Vs Kane … idk”.

Why though? You know there's no way in hell Vince lets a WCW guy beat the Undertaker. It would be pointless. Almost impossible to do.

@@CoolBlueVirgo Yes. I always felt that Undertaker's streak deserved to be ended by an equal Icon, not by a wrestler that is coming up like a final boss thing.
The only Icon still standing equal to him at that point still wrestling and doing it as well and doing it for wrestling itself still, was Sting.
I wish they could've at least done one of those cinematic matches at WrestleMania. It would've been so cool to see the characters be the main focus.

@@paulwoodford1984Taker has always been an amazing performer, but he knew that in his later years he needed a younger guy to help gives his moves more impact. If he has a choice between Sting and guys like Drew McIntyre and AJ Styles, of course he’s gonna go for the latter.
Sting was lobbying for a cinema match when he still had a legends contract with WWE.
Both are legends.
Taker really is a class act. WWE did drop the ball , but in all fairness to them. Wrestling styles more than marquee names make good matches. This is one time I'm not sure this would have been a great match. We'll never know.

20 years ago, Undertaker vs Sting would have been one of those for the ages! Like Undertaker vs Mankind Hell in a Cell, Sting vs Ric Flair for the title, Ric Flair vs Ricky Steamboat for the title. Just an incredible match man.
I appreciate The Undertaker's kind words to Sting...ive always loved them both just the mention of him and Sting in a match just makes my imagination go wild...the Dead man vs the Icon Sting..the Tombstone/Choke slam/ Last ride/Gates of Hell vs the Stinger splash/Scorpion death lock/Scorpion Death drop...i can just imagine them both kicking out of each other's moves...hahaha he said I'd a killed him good fun good fun...it would make my day just to see them in the ring together even if they didn't wrestle just to shake hands and talk to each other on the mic

Should've happened in 2015 but of course, HHH had to beat him at WM and Vince wanted to spit on WCW one last time which made no sense because it was out of business for 14 years at that point.
Makes me mad their excuse to have HHH defeat Sting was so HHH could look "strong" for a potential match against the Rock at next year's Mania but of course that never happened.

Wow! Nice to see The Undertaker and Mr. Bill Apter. They both look great. Nice props for Sting and I'm glad that he took a few minutes to say hello and wish Sting well. The Match. THE MATCH that so many wrestling fans around the World want to see will probably only happen on a video game somewhere. These guys are to old and to tired to go buring down the House for 10 or 15 minutes, 20 minutes anymore. I wish them both the best and Happy Retirement to two Childhood Heroes of Mine. We'll settle for the stories and the occasional WrestleCon Expo or Event somewhere along the way!

Undertaker is such a good dude, he really earned all of his success.
The promo, build up and dynamics of this match would have been world breaking for the wrestling world... Like who would have been heel/face, what would spark sting/taker to go after the other, who would fire the first shot etc? Or maybe the timeline that we're in... Maybe this one is best left untold?
I'd say it was best left untold. In all honesty, especially when Sting went to WWE, they were both so far removed from their prime. The buildup and storyline could have been really awesome, but I think the match itself wouldn't have been anywhere near as great as we would have wanted and expected. And making everything make sense without having a clear cut heel/face could have been weird. Nobody EVER bought into Sting as a heel any time it was tried. It would have been a reach going either way. The truth is, they would have made a much better TEAM rather than opponents.
If Seth hadn't injured Sting at Night of Champions 2015 it would've happened at Wrestlemani 32. 😔

Undertaker is the old school ,it is kind of said and at the same time nice to see him being out of character , when I was young I would have never in my life thought I would see the taker retire , to me he was always a constant but now as we all know time and tide wait for no one.
I never understood why Taker-Sting was this match everyone seemed to want.
I think one of the reasons the match never happened was because Vince didn't want to run the risk of Sting fans cheering over Taker fans, which could have likely happened. HBK (Mr. Wrestlemania himself, and someone that got cheered as much or more than Taker does) was booed at the Sting vs HHH match when he interfered; the only justice in that match.

I think WWE underestimated how over Sting's character would get, he got some of the biggest pops I can remember from the last decade. The crowd would've been split Rock/Hogan style.
My opinion Vince never liked Sting that is why Sting was wasted in the WWE
Two biggest misses in WWE history was Hogan vs. Flair at Wrestlemania VIII and Undertaker vs. Sting at Wrestlemania 31. Why bring Sting in and not put him in a match with the Undertaker?!

I'm glad these two never squared off. There's more longevity in "what if" than there is in an actual match.

Oddly enough the undertaker last wcw match was against Sting. Sting won that match. With all that being said The undertaker speak very well about Sting.
In my opinion sting retired in 2001 but just came back for 20+ more years to add to his legacy. Truly proud to be a little stinger. Thank you sting. Congratulations to the undertaker on the award.

Sting has the best career of all time. Best wrestler of all time when it is said and done. 5 decades of being on top. Being the face. The crowd never got bored of sting. Went out on top as well. Undertaker ruined it by the end of his career and was not the face of the company.
Fun fact: Taker actually did wrestle Sting in his WCW days. Surfer Sting vs Mean Mark Callous happened in 1990.

Sting is one of only 3 men to cleanly pin Kurt Angle during the Perc angle period, meanwhile taker taps out to angle and punk and gets cleanly pinned by angle, Koslov, etc
