Sachin sanyal, Bagha jatin, Khudiram bose, Surya sen, Prafulla chaki, Jatindra nath das, Barindra ghosh and many more were from Bengal only. Two very famous organizations Anushilan and Jugantar were active in Bengal Only.

The first techno park was planned to be built in Kolkata because it was the second most developed city and human resources there were skillful as well as available in plenty, but CPM prevented it to be made by organizing mass protests under the notion that one computer can do the job of 10 personnel and thus we'll be unemployed. Then Mamata ensured Exodus of Tata. There are numerous other policies which destroyed Bengal, but these were the main reasons. The Biharis aren't to be blamed in the downfall of Bengal.

I am Bengali myself. I accept that we are the most fearful and laziest people in India. And yes we have opinion on everything which is not bad. Rather I would say it is a good thing. We need to learn from from Punjabi (for warrior quality) and try to be gradually more courageous. Along with that they should try to be more broadminded/kinder/loving person.

I understand its a just laughing at yourself and so to be taken in that light. But like to clear one misconception. The largest army that the British East India raised before the Sepoy mutiny came from the Eastern region. The army was later disbanded as the sepoy mutiny was believed to have started because of disaffection amongst the sepoys and sowars of the Army of Bengal. In independent India, the Central government was really not interested in raising the Bengali regiment to score political points in spite of several requests that came from the State. Also, do not forgot the Naxal Badi andolan in the 1970s where best of the intelligentsia class joined the movement to fight for the landless, to work in factories so that they could organise the workers. Later on most of these bright students were either hunted down and shot like an animal or allowed to rot in jails.

@Abhi Kumar we are not also denying north-western people's contribution. In the end all of us are Indian. But there is a stereotype that bengalis are lazy and coward. It is a misconception. Yes, we are usually peaceful and not loud. What else can you expect from a community who prefer education over everything!!! Study can give you mental strenght, not physical. But one thing people don't know about us, we are passionate and stubborn people, if we believe in something we will do it at any cost or die trying. This mental strength makes us anything but coward.
