I went to Shanghaiguan - where the wall ends at the sea. It's really quiet, deserted in some places and a LOT more peaceful lol. That crowd was insane! Good on you - you're a great man now according to Chinese legend.
Planning on going to China and the great wall next year from nz 🇳🇿!! Thank you for the video! ❤ the scenery is so beautiful but I think I would get a bit claustrophobic with all those people 😅
I’ve spent about ten weeks there in total, my wife is from Hong Kong. It makes the world of difference if you speak Mandarin or are with someone who does plus Cantonese. Very very interesting place, not really what I thought and in most places away from Hong Kong and Beijing you’ll be lucky to see a westerner. If you have blond hair and blue eyes in particular you will be the source of curiosity. Use the fast trains rather than flying they are awesome and make our rail system look stone age. There were actually only one or two places I felt overwhelmed by the number of people both were markets. Cheers Chris from NZ
@@NaGromOne if you pick your time it’s manageable. Given the choice the moon festival is definitely not the time to go there. In fact avoid any of the Chinese holidays. I went to Xian to see the Terracotta soldiers and it was a breeze, no queuing, very easy viewing yet I’ve seen pictures of that place packed out worse than the wall.
Walking the Great Wall will help you see it was a superhuman feat and the invincible determination of those that chiseled and laid each block into place; fun fact: it is over 13 times the length of NZ.
Wow, that really wasn't what I had imagined - it's amazing, but the crowds...! Thank you Brock and Freya for your brilliant video and showing the reality and not a 'dream destination'. Oh, and thank you for trying the Oreo coke - my daughter and I had been eyeing it up in the supermarket, but not brave enough to try it - thank you for confirming what we expected and saving us from the experience 😂 Love you guys! ❤
I'm glad we could help you decide on the Oreo coke! 😅 I'm so happy that you love to watch our videos! It means so much to us! Although I may not always reply to everyone's comments, I definitely read them all and I appreciate your continuous support on my channel!!!!
You went to the tourist part of the Wall. Its crazy, crowded and expensive. The Wall is LONG. Go to another section that is not the tourist trap! You did discover the Wall follows the terrain and it can be steep up and down. We caught the local bus and went past this section with its cable car and insane tourist crowds and were so glad we avoided it!
Been to that exact place but there was hardly anyone there reason, winter and a weekday . I’ve seen pictures of it crowded and it definitely would take away from the experience. While you are there my two favourites were The Summer Palace and the Chinese National Museum . Have the Peking Duck in a proper Peking duck place. Lots to see in for sure. How is the pollution ? Yeah Chinese bathrooms mostly fking disgusting always the low point on my trips, go for the disabled version not usually a hole in the ground with a hose.
Wow! That food was cheap, considering it's in a high tourist location!
That's what I thought!!! Food is cheap almost anywhere you go in China!

The Wall is very LONG and there's no need to choose the tourist trap section!

Hello from New Zealand
Yeah it's everywhere bought it in NZ and it's disgusting 😮
Oreo flavour even here in NZ, not a coke drinker so haven't tried. Sounds gross though..
It's really disgusting
The Oreo Coke is just new, there is also Coke Oreos
Hello Brock do you have Aspergers syndrome? you are so wholesome and remind me of my brother that's why I ask. ☺
