    I've been in the paving business for 33 years and I give your video a thumbs up for sure. Every tip you gave was spot on right down to letting the gravel set for a little bit before paving. We let our driveways sit for up to 2 to 3 weeks after grading them before we lay asphalt. Very well done, great job

      That will only be a temporary solution. Not worth all the time and money because you will have cracks and other issues. You need a proper base, which is why they tore the old asphalt out instead of just going over it.

    Hello, great presentation, thank you. Is it possible to use only plate compactor for compacting asphalt without usage of "roller compactor" ?

    • @benjaminsagau
      @benjaminsagau  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can do it, but you need to have some experience. Try to use it on a smaller scale before committing on a big patch of Asfalt .
      Don’t forget about watering the Asfalt tough, it makes a big difference on the result.
      I would recommend the roller for the best results.
      Best of luck to you! 💪😎

    Much similar methods like i do. was the quality of the asphalt that day bad? or a bit cold wheater. It was a bit many pours in the asphalt. What type of Aspahalt you used there ? Also in future a Hanger with tip and shuffle from there whould be alot easyer. Have the hanger move after the parts being made. All in all good work. You putt in alot of work

      Hi Jan,I used the small granulation top layer asphalt.I wish it had more bitumen inside tough .We had around 18-20 degrees C that day(that’s hot in Denmark, 😀),but it still looks like new after 2 winters.The owner is very pleased and got me few other references after that job. I’ll have a look for the hanger,thanks for the tip!

    have a contractor that has a paver that lays down the asphalt, and while the paver is sitting in my driveway waiting for the rain to stop, I notice a layer of oil in the bed of the paver where the asphalt is going to be. Is this going to create a problem for the asphalt to asphalt to adhere to itself and maintian a quality layer?

    • @benjaminsagau
      @benjaminsagau  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Charge by the hour, it will be the easiest for you and you can make an idea for the future projects. I don’t know what is the price for hour work there but here is little different because the taxes are really high(45% income tax plus 25% vat).So yeah,don’t know outside of Denmark..

    You didn't tell us how to mix the asphalt. What makes it stick together and what makes it black?? I have plans to start up a small construction company dealing in that.

    • @benjaminsagau
      @benjaminsagau  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s a mixture of old asphalt and tar,heated up to a great heat ,in a asphalt plant.It is a very expensive process and a lot of really expensive furnaces and tanks.The initial expense is so big,that there are very few plants doing it.The plant where I bought it is the only one in a radius of 100 km.By comparison in the same radius there are around 8-9 concrete plants.So I would never try to do it myself.Hopefully you can find some business model it would work for you.But making asphalt for myself would never be a good idea.

    • @benjaminsagau
      @benjaminsagau  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Try the biggest rental places around,they have it,probably you need to call in advance,maybe they have it in different location.It is pricey but I would not recommend starting without a roller vibrator.Very big difference in quality compared to a plate vibrator

  • @larryb5986
    @larryb5986 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    you asked for comments so here we go. 1st where's your chalk mark for height along the wall? Why would you need to call the plant when they can make it Fresh from the batch plant when you pull in? Most importantly Why would ANYONE use concrete as a base when concrete heats and Cools at a different rate? Thats why you Never black top over concrete well at least here in the states

    • @benjaminsagau
      @benjaminsagau  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the comment,those are some good points actually.
      There was no need to make a chalk line on the wall,because there was the bottom of the granite on the wall that gave it’s height,much better than a chalk line since it can’t be covered by color of the concrete or asphalt(level on the length,and it had the proper fell towards the street) but if there wasn’t,I usually use a styrofoam roll,(50 m roll,5 mm thick )and glue it to the wall when I pour concrete or asphalt,it gives me the height,makes a barrier for the cold,and it gives the asphalt/concrete place to dilate or contract.. When the surface of the concrete or asphalt is dry,the styrofoam is covered with tar,or special silicone.
      2.You need to call the plant in advance,because they make very exact amounts for every day(down to kg precision).You can order it a week in advance and you can pick it at specific times,when they program you.The asphalt is very fresh and very warm.In this particular case,it was so hot that the cover I had melted.And it was a special cover. 😃😃The warmer it is,the longer time you have to use it,hence the better finnish result.If this aspect is not organized well,very fast things go bad.
      3.Concrete under asphalt is only bad if it’s reinforced,than, you get problems,some big ones ,since the weak spots will crack(where the rebar,wire mesh over lapse or on the control joints).The concrete I used is not reinforced,and if it cracks,the asphalt on top won’t .From all the places I used this technique,I never had a crack to this day.Also,this is the way highways are made in Germany and when visiting Arizona few years ago,I noticed they do their highways ONLY in concrete (more than a meter thick)since it whitstand the heat way better than the asphalt.If there is a day where the temperature outside is in 100/110 Farenheight, and you have to chose to drive a semi over thick asphalt / or a thin asphalt with a concrete base,what would you prefer to drive on best?The base gives the asphalt the strength.Not the top layer,or a wobbly asphalt base on a hot day.

    • @benjaminsagau
      @benjaminsagau  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also,I forgot to mention,at the 3rd point,if it would have been bad to put asphalt over concrete,no matter where in USA you live,every bridge you drive over would have a terrible surface,but usually,the asphalt on a bridge outlasts the asphalt on the roads by a ratio of 2 to 1.So yeah,not sure your concern on that regard should make you too worried.

    • @gazzbhoy8950
      @gazzbhoy8950 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your talking nonsense you can asphalt over concrete to be honest with you some of the worst asphalt jobs I see on TH-cam are all in America yous just can’t do it simple as that not all but majority are not good at it I been laying asphalt in Scotland every day my life 23 years from resurfacing full carriage ways to small patchwork deep reinstatement for gas and water utilities and we use a foam concrete on heavy traffic roads and bring up between 14/16 inches of asphalt 4”being the surface course if you want to learn anything about asphalt the whole of uk do it best simple as that

      @larryb5986 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gazzbhoy8950 well now if I could give you a Gold star sticker I would. Just so that you know.... Its NOT a good idea to top over concrete, Maybe where you guys are BUT not here when weather fluxes the way it does. Oh we have to think about what the cost of doing the job....
