I had been a Crue fan since "Shout at the Devil". and this album is a whole new beast! Better vocalist and the other members really shine musically on this record. It is not your typical Crue album, but musically is the best album in thier catalogue.
I AGREE all day bro,its super strong on EVERY front,TOMMY LEE is incredible,MICK sounds even better and even NIKKI does easily his best BASS work,Yea this needed a Band name change and they may have been ok,but I would assume the LABEL probably woulda had an issue, but its too bad,cuz its literally one of if not my FAVORITE ROCK RECORD OF ALL TIME,not just fav CRUE RECORD!!
I love it. Groove metal was the "in" style during that time, and they did it amazingly. What I don't understand is why they didn't keep John around and continue as a 5-piece after Vince came back. John plays guitar, so he would've been able to play the rhythm guitar parts live (which would be beneficial since Mick could've focused entirely on lead), and he also writes, so he could've helped Vince and Nikki come up with some better lyrics. I'm sure John would've known to play second fiddle to Vince, and he wouldn't let his ego go too far.
According to Corabi, the Generation Swine sessions were miserable and he chose to walk away from a weird situation. Or the label just didn’t want him in the band even just as a second guitar player.
Well teres 2 very clear reasons right away,NIKKI and the rest of the band have come away looking like very GREEDY,MONEY GRABBING DOUCHES since Vinces return, espesially since the GOODBYE tour and the contract ridiculousness so there ya go,they were not gonna pay another guy,THEY WANT IT ALL,I'm assuming!!Secondly Nikki Sixx while writing this record and after said how GREAT JOHNS WRITING ability was and these days all he can do is TRASH CORABIS WRITING and he literally trashed him durting an on air interview,so its pretty obvious SIXX'S EGO would not be able to do it,as he also RAVED about that 94 album and it was the BEST they'd EVER done and of course since it didnt go 4X PLATINUM,it now SUCKS according to him, which tells me hes got no BALLS and he obviously cant be trusted as he had to go with what EVERYONE else was saying about HIS album!!Also it must get under his skin that even tho the record only went GOLD its gained sort of a cult following and most fans who always said CRUE had little talent, will say how much BETTER this one was compared to their old stuff and that it is WAY BETTER MUSICALLY and HEAVIER then ANYTHING they've done prior!!so that most likely gets at him a bit too, weirdly tho,LEE and MARS still say it was a good album, even tho they don't give it the glowing responses they once did, again probably because it never even reached platinum AND their supposed leader SIXX might not like them sayin good things about it!!
Ya cant say enough about the lyrics on TILL DEATH DO US PART,I love it that its just oozing with PRIDE and SELF WORTH as we walk thru lifes sometimes tumultuous paths!!
The last good Motley album, has aged far better than some the band’s previous releases. In my top 3 all time best Motley albums w/Shout At The Devil and Too Fast For Love. IMO Corabi vs. Vince perfectly defines the correlation between ‘frontman’ and ‘singer’.
When this album came out I liked but couldn't shake the feeling it didn't feel like a Motley Crue album. These days it's the only Motley album I can listen to in its entirety without getting bored.
Primal Scream certainly was a sign of where they were going. Corabi's voice really changed the sound. I dig this album and think it's some of their best work but I still don't think it sounds like a Motley album. I think should have released it under another name. I heard Nikki share sentiment as well back in the 90s before he disowned it.
And I agree. In terms of consistency from start to finish this is the best Motley Crüe album. It’s an album that is criminally underrated and deserves its moment in the sun.
This is Motley's best by far, I think it came out at the wrong time. It would have been epic if we could have heard Crabby perform the songs that he wrote for Generation Swine.
A common refrain is that Motley Crue fans did not accept John Corabi. I wonder how much truth is in this statement. The media be it TV or radio was openly hostile or dismissive of any band from the 1980s. Add the lack of support from the label. It still went gold in the USA. What about Europe Asia and the rest of the world. Does anyone have any information about sales, reviews, AirPlay, concert attendance?
Shout and Too Fast tied for first place for me because it depends on the mood I’m in. Feelgood 2nd, then this one. Only reason I place Feelgood above this one is because I think it has consistently better melodies. This was a perfect follow-up to Feelgood.
Thing is Motley Crue is a brand, literally a business so unless that album did at the very least probably 3X platinum it wasn't gonna work, cuz they were coming off of FEELGOOD and 4X platinum at THAT time which ended up over 6X platinum but way after FEELGOOD came out,so its a damn s 0:590:59
Dude, I am SO with you on this being the CRUE’x best album by far! Yeah, I still love all of their other albums, actually loving their Primal Scream song with Vince on vocals the most of all of their Vince backed stuff. It was dark & heavy, which is SO different then most of their other more melodic musical style. I would have LOVED to have heard Crabbie sing the original Generation Swine efforts.
I always thought that too,if u listen to PRIMAL SCREAM it was definately heading in the direction of MOTLEY 94 and is probably the only track that would have fit right in on that 94 record!!
@@raypratt3611 , my fave VN song right there, bud. If they would’ve made a whole album like that, it might’ve matched the 94 album (though I highly doubt it….).
It is a very strong album too bad the fans didn’t feel the same way they wanted Neil back so bad that they didn’t give John a chance. His voice is still going strong vs Vince Neil’s voice is basically gone at that point.
As good as Corabi was and even if they did a few more albums with him, unfortunately they were always destined to reunite with Vince Neil. Not that the previous albums weren't good but his better days were gone by the time he came back.
John saved Motley Crue and made them better in my opinion don’t get me wrong I love Vince Neal but his voice was heading out the door by the late 90’s and the early 2000’s especially
John Corabi is an excellent vocalist, vastly superior to Vince Neil from a technical point of view. That being said, I don't care much for this album. Two tracks, Misunderstood and Driftaway, are very good. The rest of the tracks are filler in my opinion. It's just a bunch of generic sounding mid '90s rock. Nikki Sixx got preoccupied with chasing trends and lost sight of what Motley Crue does best. Only the disastrous follow-up, Generation Swine, saves this from being Motley Crue's worst album. After spending pretty much the entire decade of the 1990's trying to pretend they're something they aren't, they finally righted that wrong by returning to their signature sound with 2000's New Tattoo. If only they had released New Tattoo in 1994 with Corabi on vocals, I think there's a better chance he would have been accepted as the new singer. I absolutely love the album Corabi recorded with The Scream in 1991, and his more recent work with The Dead Daisies is also very good. Back in the late '90s he formed a band with Bruce Kulick called Union, which put out a couple of decent albums. Altogether, taking John Corabi's entire body of work into consideration, I think the album he recorded with Motley Crue is the worst thing he was ever a part of. I have never understood the love some people have for this album. I'm sorry but I just don't get it. To me, this was the Motley Crue album for people who don't like Motley Crue.
@@raypratt3611 I guess that depends on how you define heavy rock. For the sake of context I can tell you I love Skid Row's "Slave To The Grind" album, which I think is pretty heavy. That self-titled Motley Crue album just never did it for me though. I don't think it was too heavy, I just think it sounded too much like typical paint by numbers boring mid '90s radio rock.
Not true,Mick Mars wrote a good chunk if not the majority of the MUSIC and Sixx wrote ALL of the lyrics and two things should point to this, for one thing Nikki Sixx was NEVER a good musician and especially the early days could barely play bass, let alone guitar,MICK and TOMMY LEE were the inly true musicians in that band, dont believe me there are two atrocious moments when Sixx tried to play live and it was BAD,his said Bass solo on the girls tour was about as bad as it gets, until u hear a live gig in 04 or 05 forget what ROCK IN RING I believe was the festival or something like that and the sound guys screwed up and u can barely hear mick but the bass is jacked way up front and it is BAD not to mention not saying u can believe google a lot but if SIXX was the main songwriter he would get paid more then the other members, thats how it goes, yet hes supposedly the third highest earning out of the four,But that aside its been obvious to me that he didnt really start playing halfway decent till their 94 record with Corabi thats why I was a bit surprised he sounded so awful in 04 during that live show, and ya gotta wonder if BOB ROCK wasnt also hired to help Nikki with the bass parts or even do some of the bass parts, although he got far and away the two best sounding crue albums out of them and especially the 94 record sounded absolutely amazing!!
Depends how u look at it,cuz if u listen to PRIMAL SCREAM,one of VINCES very last tracks with Crue before the split,u can tell they are heading in a direction that takes them to their 94 album,it woulda fit right in on that record,so I think they wanted to shift to a heavier sound but VINCE maybe didnt want to or just didn't have the vocal chops to pull it off for a full record and tour, imo!!

The 94 album was motley Crue's heaviest album since shout at the devil...I also love the album
Exactly! I've commented the same thing elsewhere. How funny. 😂 Great minds think alike.
It’s much heavier than Shout
I love it. Groove metal was the "in" style during that time, and they did it amazingly.

Agree 100%!! I’ve been telling people this for 29 years!!!!
Good album but I think Shout At The Devil is their best.
No doubt!!!!
I agree this album only gets better with time and has more depth than any other Crue album ~Krash
When this album came out I liked but couldn't shake the feeling it didn't feel like a Motley Crue album. These days it's the only Motley album I can listen to in its entirety without getting bored.
I think it sounds like Crüe. It’s very in line with where they were going with “Primal Scream”.

I love that album, just a shame only one album, john corabi still has his voice, vince does not, mc1994 is heavy, great video.

It’s sucks that they didn’t show a lot of this album in the movie
This album was by far their best. Corabi fit the role perfectly.

94 Is Definitely An Underrated Album Indeed
Great album.
Angered, the 94 album is their best imo. It’s heavy, the instrumentation is great and i prefer Corabi’s vocals over Neil’s.
It is their best album
Incredible album top to bottom by far. Terrible is lineup didn’t last.

It would have been smart to keep him on as a writer and rhythm guitarist even when Vince returned.
Bottom line ,it's their best work period
