■ What is natto ?
Natto is a traditional Japanese food that is made by fermenting soybeans. The result is a sticky, gooey texture with a very strong, unique smell and flavor. Natto is often served with rice and is considered a healthy food due to its high protein content and the presence of a beneficial type of bacteria that aids in digestion.
However, natto is quite divisive even in its home country, Japan. Its strong odor, slimy texture, and distinctive taste can be quite overwhelming, especially for those who are trying it for the first time. This is not limited to foreigners; a significant number of Japanese people, including children and even some adults, find it difficult to eat natto.
For babies and toddlers, natto can be a challenging food to introduce because of its texture and taste. Just like any new food, it may take several tries before they get used to it. Some may never come to enjoy it, and that's perfectly okay. Each individual's food preferences are unique, after all.
