When Inara says that The Operative is a Believer, she means that he is one of those people who believes in his mission and will not be deterred from it in any way. His only reason for calling off his men after Mal's broadcast is that his mission is to prevent that information from getting out, and once it is out, he has no reason to capture River.

Just after the revelation of what happened to the entire population on Miranda, there is a very short scene in which River looks up at Simon and says "I'm all right". Almost no one remarks at it. At that point, I think River has, in fact, faced up to her internal demons and can at last deal with the flood of emotions and information that she is constantly exposed to; and she really is "all right" now. Which is why she is able to engage and win her battle with the reavers. She wasn't triggered by anything. She was at last in full control of her abilities when she saved them all.

Serenity is, set at the end of the the theoretical run of Firefly. Without Inara and Sheppard Book, the crew is starting to fall apart, and we're seeing everyone at their worst.
The Operative (the antagonist, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor) is specifically who Book was talking about, regarding belief. One of the themes of Firefly and Serenity, especially Sheppard Book, is that of certainty versus fuzzy approximations. Book is man looking for certainty. He'd though he'd found it in religion, and instantly found himself in moral quandries aboard Serenity. The more he tried to bring certainty, and order, the more things got confused, and unclear, and without that certainty Book found himself slipping back into the darkness of his past.
The Operative is a direct reflection of book - he ends where Book began. A dark past, searching for a new life, trying to rebuild his moral framework from the ground up.
The score is understated but very effective in Serenity, especially River's theme on the piano. That little resolution when she says "I'm alright. I'm.... alright" is so perfect, completes the question her theme had been asking.
Summer Glau (river) is a professional dancer, and the fight choreographer said that he'd never seen someone with a physical memory like her.
    "yeah, but we're still flyin'."
    "That's not much."
    "It's enough."

I believe Book used to be like the operative but realized just what the Alliance was doing and quit to go to a place to redeem himself. This explains a lot about his character and how he got special treatment from the Alliance.

I think it would have been revealed that Book was in charge of the Battle of Serenity. When he realized all of the death he caused he went on a spiritual path.
      That's just my opinion.

The way that the opening one-shot was done is that Joss had a full mock-up of Serenity built on the soundstage.

The bit of dialogue you missed:
“Y’all were watching, I take it?”
    “Did y’all see us fight?”
    “No.”
    “Trap.”

This movie is a wonderful way to tie up the series. Still left enough options open just in case they were given the chance to come back.
I think the Reaver storyline was pretty good. For me, not seeing them too much at first definitely made them more intimidating and terrifying. Anticipation always builds the feelings. Positive or negative.
The character deaths definitely hit hard. Still hit me everytime I watch the movie. I think this is the first time I have seen Wren actually cry. Glad you felt the same way we all did.
This movie also made Wren laugh. Don't see her laugh quite like that very often either. Guess this movie got a hold of her.
    Glad you enjoyed it. 😊

Mal asked Kaelie if (during their video call with Inara) she had seen them fight. When she answered "no," he used that as evidence that this was a trap because Mal and Inara constantly sniped at one-another when talking.

Yeah. Reavers do seem like the 28 Days Later type zombiesque creature. We always call them monster trying to deny that part of humanity.

Whether (or not) Mal considers anybody part of his crew (other than Zoe, Wash, and Kalei) tends to depend on his mood at the time. The movie follows "Objects in Space," and in the opening sequence, we realize that neither Inara (who said she was planning to leave) nor Book, is on Serenity.

As a user of "trailing edge" technology, EVERY laptop computer I have has a CD/DVD player/recorder. I REFUSE to "daisy chain" stuff because the card table that Ye Olde Lenovo ThinkPad T530 sits on is too small for that.;)

Wren you're looking especially shiny for this reaction video ❤
You've got to react to Galaxy Quest, You are a true member of sci-fi fandom And you will get that movie and you will Love it. It's not a parody well it is, but it's also a love letter to science fiction fandom.

Please stand for the complete Browncoat anthem: th-cam.com/video/gUn-eN8mkDw/w-d-xo.html
By the way, every time a TH-cam viewer falls in love with "Firefly" or "Serenity" (2005), a Fox TV executive falls off the Nakatomi Plaza building. (Then goes to "That Special Hell" mentioned in "Our Mrs. Reynolds.";)

They did have to roll back the relations to kinda get the ball rolling I think. It's also a movie, meant to reintroduce and, for people that hadn't seen the show, Introduce the characters.
the Miranda story arc I believe was planned as a season 2 ending. If I remember correctly, Joss Whedon had a plan for 5 seasons, they got half of one...
but even if I am sure about these things, I have no confirmation, so you are free to regard what I say as hearsay.
there were actually a plan to make more movies, and both Ron Glass and Alan Tudyk both knew they could not commit to more projects, thus their characters were killed rather than have them disappear between films.
I do think I am happy with this and a nice conclusion. It does not give us all the answers, but enough to be a satisfying point to leave off on. and yes, more seasons would have been great!
May I just say, I really like your outfit, especially the choice of color.

When you engage in hand-to-hand combat (with or without weapons) with what we have learned is an active (combat-trained) telepath, you are going to lose. And I would not give good odds even if you have firearms and the telepath does not.

My guess is that the reavers are still human, but their humanity is deeply buried under the drastic practices of violence into which the drug pushed them.

2:50 - The CLASSIC Battlestar Galactica?? Okay, I'm officially feeling old now. The "classic" BSG (if you want to call it that) came out in the 70s, when everyone was trying to cash in on the success of Star Wars. That original show was a big slice of 70s television sci-fi cheese - light and fun enough in its way but difficult to take seriously. The reboot in the 2000s was an almost completely different beast except for the basic premise.

👉 Things I learned from this reaction: Katee Sackhoff has a reaction channel, and lives in New Zealand. 😮⭐🦌🌏
📚 From modern history, any time someone tries to create a utopia, they create grievous oppression and human misery. I would suggest that's because a utopia requires absolute unanimity amongst its membership over every policy, procedure, and process.
⚖🌐If we live in a perfect world, and I disagree with how we do something, either the world isn't actually perfect, or I'm the problem. And that's the poisoned core of the ominous statement by River's teacher: "We're not telling people _what_ to think, we're just trying to show them _how_ ." Left out is an implied discussion.
"What if they don't _want_ to think they way you want them to?"
"Then we have to convince them."
    "What if they still disagree?"
🗡🏞Cut to the assassin hunting adult River down.
*Utopia* *always* *requires* *forced* *compliance* . ⛓
Because _Free_ _Minds_ are inherently independent, and every problem usually has several solutions, many of which are mutually exclusive. Then war happens.
And this is why folks need to be exceptionally suspicious of the AI prophets who are telling us how perfect our world will be once AGI is fully realized. AI will cure every ill, solve every crisis. Disagree with our new techno-overlords?
Watch TH-cam videos of new combat robots. Synchronized dancing robots? How cute. Dog-form robots with weapons, killling "terrrists" for laaw enforccemnt? (already happened in the US...) Not...so...cuddly.🐕💔
Car manufacturers are researching using cockpit facing cameras to feed data to an AI to analyze the "mood" of the driver. Ubiquitous surveillance allows constant monitoring to detect potential "thought crimes". How long before autonomous "compliance enforcers" begin ensuring that River's teacher has successfully taught us _how_ to think?
Sci-fi authors have done tons of thought experiments fleshing out potential pitfalls and negative outcomes of technology married to utopian goals. 💻👰🛐
👉 I recommend "Dollhouse", another Joss Whedon creation, to see the folly of blindly chasing miracle technologies, and what happens when the most *Evil* people in the world get control of the most powerful tech.
🚧(spoiler alert: they always do, and it's _always_ _bad_ .)⚠
