  • Hello everyone. We had such a fun weekend as we went camping for the first time as a family (properly as we have been a couple of times before with friends and also glamping too) in Norfolk.
    I am working with Millets in this video to test their Hi-Gear range. From family camping to wild camping, Hi-Gear provide everything you need to keep you comfortable, entertained and happy on all outdoor pursuits. We have always wanted to try camping, but hadn’t known where to start so we were very grateful to get the opportunity to try out the Hi-Gear range.
    I have an amazing discount code where you can get 20% off the Hi-Gear range (which is higher than any other discount) and it will be run till the 13th September. From everything to tents to furniture to lanterns.
    ** Just head here bit.ly/3KgVhWl and use the code Katie20 at checkout. **

    I'm Katie, I live in the UK with my husband Jon and our 3 children aged 11, 9 and 6. I love photography, videography, generally being creative, and being outside whenever I can. We also love to travel, the last couple of years have obviously put a stop to that a little, but we are hoping to travel lots more in the future. I've been online for nearly 11 years, which is just crazy, and I am really proud of the lovely community I have built up on here and Instagram.
    On this channel you will find day in the life vlogs, monthly favourites, travel videos, planning and organising videos, renovation updates, book chat and lots more.

    A dog is hands down the best security system you can have camping. It looks like you all had a good time 😁

    We love camping as a family since my two boys were small they are teenagers now we have been going camping. Top tip is pack insect repellent as there always loads of bugs. Citronella candles are good too. We tend to go camping once a year but in the UK and then do a abroad holiday too. we have loads of happy memories from camping holidays.

      We made a bit of an amateur mistake the first night and left the door to the tent open a bit too long at night when we had the lantern on and there were loads of bugs inside the tent. We had to put the lantern outside and sit in the dark for a bit so most of them went out. Luckily none went in the bedroom bit though as I honestly can't bear that noise mosquitos make! We really enjoyed our first time properly camping, we would definitely do it again! x

    Hey Katie! Happy camping! I have always wondered why you guys haven't camped before as I think it suits your family and lifestyle well. We love camping and we actually have that tent it is great but the slightly smaller version. You were brave going to a camp site without electric for the first time but it looked like a great place. I understand about being nervous about going on a big campsite to start with! Especially with having to film a vlog too! We go camping every summer but I must admit I am a day or two camper I couldn't go for any longer!

      Hi Sophie thanks for the message. 😍 We’ve done glamping before in glamping tents and we recently went to Devon in Easter and stayed in a shepherds hut that had an outside shower and compost toilet and things, plus we’ve camped with friends in their tent, but we’ve always wanted to try going ourselves but it always felt a bit daunting. So it was so fun trying out the Millets and Hi-Gear range and now we feel more confident to go again. We’d love to go more often.
      Yes I’m a bit awkward filming 🤣🤣🤣😅 so this campsite suited us perfectly the first time. And I think I could do more days if I was on a campsite with more facilities like a shower block, but this was perfect for our first trip as we could only do 2 nights anyway due to our holiday to Portugal and also my daughters football training.
      Although I don’t know how people pack the car for more than 2 nights, our car was full to the brim 🤣🤣

    A few years back I became obsessed with camping, as a family we spent over £1000 on a tent, all manner of camping equipment. We booked a camping holiday and absolutely hated it!! SO much prep before going, tidying away after, it was a nightmare. Boiling hot in the day, freezing at night…I could go on.
    Genuinely believe your either a camper of your not, we’re defo in the latter group! x

    • @katie_ellison
      @katie_ellison  ปีที่แล้ว

      oh no Katie what a nightmare! Bless you have you tried again since? I knew I was going to enjoy it cause we are quite outdoorsy but I can see why you are in one of two camps (excuse the pun haha). I don't know if that the moment I could do more than maybe 4 or 5 nights though, just cause you never sleep quite as well do you? I know some people go for 2 weeks and things! x

      We were exactly the same. We were originally going to try and do a mixture of camping and hotels in Switzerland this summer and we went to a Go Outdoors back in April to start looking and we just had no clue what we needed so we gave up on that idea, plus we still had a bit of a flight voucher left from pre covid so we ended up going to Portugal. But I feel more prepared now we have done it once. We really enjoyed it. And it was kind of Millets to give me the discount code. I hope it helps :) x

    You are always such an ispiration, we are a family of 3 happy campers, with same tent for longer camping and also got a slightly smaller air tent which you just pump up for our weekend camping. We love going exploring, kayaking, bbqs, star gazing, all the outdoors, I have better night sleeps now when camping than i do at home , love all the fun you have in this video , relate especially to the hunt for a 2p machine x

    • @katie_ellison
      @katie_ellison  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much Cheryl. Ooh love the idea of a smaller tent for shorter camping trips. You sound like us. We love the outdoors- paddle boards, walking, star gazing, hikes, wild swimming, but we had yet to properly try camping. I am grateful we got the opportunity to go as I knew we would love it. And aren't 2p machines a must on a seaside holiday!! xx

    I’m disappointed that your last few vlogs were ad’s

    • @katie_ellison
      @katie_ellison  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lisa I am sorry you are disappointed. I am really proud of the brands I work with and love doing ads. If they aren’t for you you don’t have to watch them. Of course I would love people to watch them as I put an effort into them, enjoy making them, and am proud to work with the brands I do. I always hope the video is still interesting to watch regardless if part of it is an ad. I turn down 90% of the brand work offered to me but sometimes there are more brand videos in a row than others if I think the ad is a good fit, but then I’ll also go months without an ad on here too. Sometimes even though the work is done weeks a part, circumstances will mean the brands want them up at a similar time, or they’ll take a long time to look at them etc so they end up going up close to each other. It’s also been the school holidays so I have been busy with the kids and therefore unable to space out other videos in between. I will always be honest and transparent and declare them at the start and in the description so you can choose whether to watch or not. So many people don’t do this so you don’t even know if what you are watching is an ad anyway. Sorry if you are disappointed but I am grateful to be working with brands. Always happy to hear feedback though.

      @@katie_ellison Katie, thank you for your reply. I enjoyed your vlogs, and was so pleased to see recent ones. But sad they were ad’s. I understand you have a living to make and most important are clear before I watch, I suppose as your children grow content changes. I really hope there are no hard feeling.

    • @katie_ellison
      @katie_ellison  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lisagapper398 thanks Lisa for replying to me and of course no hard feelings at all. I recognised your name as soon as I saw it as I know we’ve chatted in comments before. It is tricky cause I know people aren’t keen on ads, but then also like you say this is the way I know make part of my living. I do enjoy making ads if I feel they are the right fit. You tube has been a bit of a funny one for me for a while (I’m much more active on instagram) because like you say my kids are growing up and therefore the videos I make has to change as a result. I hope I can come to a happy medium where people still enjoy them and also I feel comfortable with what I share. A large portion of my time it’s just me at home working and the kids are at school and then I spend my evenings ferrying them about to their clubs. 🤣 I hope I’ll get into the swing of you tube where I continue to share videos but in a way that works for me and the people who used to watch my videos. I’d love to know what kind of videos you enjoy on others channels? And please know absolutely no hard feelings, I know there’s been a few more ads than usual recently, and I do appreciate that feedback. X
