- HI guys! In this video, I'm reviewing the Shilla Hotel in Seoul, Korea. I will talk about the standard room, buffet, pool, and other amenities. I'll give you a hotel room tour and a tour of the breakfast buffet in detail, as well as providing honest opinions of what I thought. I prefer the JW Marriott location in Gangnam. I actually think the Shilla’s location was kind of inconvenient for me.

I recently stayed at Shilla Hotel. I agree the hotel is very busy and it is very hard to drive(taxi) out of the hotel. Busy gym is due to “hotel spa members” who come and go during the day.
If you get the Samsung The 1 credit card then it comes with 2 free buffet dinners at various hotels including the Shilla. The dinner buffet is pretty good with lots of crab, etc. But there's no lobster (for that you need to go to Vikings wharf).
They should have told you about the extra charges such as the slippers/robes and cot. Cot is somewhat common to charge but I don't think slippers should be an extra charge and regardless they should tell you.
I think that maybe some people can pay for gym membership there to use the gym and pool without staying at the hotel so it may be crowded.
And lol I also saw Mikey Chen's video a few months ago and it looked empty. He also went during a weekday as well so maybe that's why it was more empty.

I saw Mikey Chen's video and that's actually what prompted us to get so excited by the buffet. But I now realize that he must have gotten there at 5 or 6 am when the buffet opens . But really who wants to eat a buffet at that hour? He said that he was jet lagged so it worked for him. Yes they didn't tell us about the extra charge and should have told us about it up front. And yes it looked like a lot of outside guests came here to use the pool bc they were walking into the lobby looking like they were headed there.
The room layout and amenities remind me of Holiday Inns, with a bigger bathroom. Maybe it was 5 stars when Korea just came out of the Korean War??

i agree your opinion. also i went there, but ... yes, good and nice but 5 star hotel and expensive room expense not enough.
I understand that in Korea, you’re required to wear a cap at a public swimming pool. So what if you shave your head? Like moi? 🤪 What would be the response from the facility staff? 🤔
Not sure what it's like these days but when I was a kid I went with my cousin who had a military crewcut and they made him buy a swim cap.

Originally a hotel that catered for elderly upper class and business Koreans wanting a Korean touch and never popular for foreigners.
tfs . . for a 5 star they should accommodate and let you upgrade do not agree on charging you extra for kid slippers/robes and not to mention for the cots as you had already book the hotel as a family of 4 not 2 . . totally ridiculous to charge extra on the pool . .just my opinion but I guess nowadays it's all about nickel/dime you for anything they can get from anyone . . ❤ your video
I agree with everything you said which is why I am not a big fan of this hotel. It was a nice hotel but I didn't appreciate all the extra charges, especially the pool. We are going to save that pool charge and put it towards our Disneyland admission. 😂
