My first musical instrument love was drums. I used to have some Buddy Rich, Gene Kruppa and Sandy Nelson records when I was a kid, I wore them out. But when I tried to be a drummer in school our band director decided I was more suited to play the Sousaphone. My drumming career ended before it started. Besides I had so many friends that were great drummers at the time it made no sense for me to try playing drums so I took up the bass guitar and 6 string guitar instead. Even though I play guitars, now I still have a passion for great drum playing. My modern day favorites would range from Billy Cobham, Steve Gadd, Mike Mangini, Mike Portnoy, Jason Costa, Terry Bozzio among others, and I absolutely love Anika. Listening to you reminds me of listening to Billy Cobham after Mahavishnu Orchestra and Steve Gadd during his Al Di Meola days in the 70's. I love your playing, you are an inspiration.

I love all the ícon drummers that are to love but I have to say that Anika is playing in another dimmension! She is by far the most creative and well managed brain in the world of drumming.
I'm not a hater, and I didn't dislike the video and didn't thumb it up or down, but I didn't like that drumming, to me, to my ears, to my tastes it was too many innappropriate notes. Overplaying. I like how she approaches the Drums differently then we most do. Making Her seem off Beat/Tempo, Because thats not the approach we would take to these certain songs, I like how she plays, If im Honest, Its a little weird, And Doesnt make sense,But To her it does and at the end of the song it really comes together for a perfect ending. Anika, I loved every minute of this...but especially from 3:19 - 3:42. I keep rewinding that part over and over again. This part has a bit of extra attitude and power and when you do the breakdown at 3:20 to bring the beat back, its extremely simple but it makes a big statement. The entire song is powerful, but I love this part in particular!
To add to my other comments below, this track keeps me coming back, there is more and more depth each time I listen. You work with a wonderful group of musicians. This Fusion style of playing is what has been missing in current music. From my vantage point, you are inspiring many new players into this genre of instrumental music...keep it coming...your musicianship grows with each composition.
