For my XWD people, you don’t have to drop the differential. You pop the drive shaft out and unbolt the left and right bolts that hold the diff to the frame but leave the bolts that go to the subframe. You’ll have enough flex to slide the fuel tank out. I learned this trick from a specialist and have done it myself.
I have that problem with my fuel level gauge. I just live with it, doesn't bother me at all. Just keep tract of your mileage which everyone ought to do. When I fill up my tank it goes back to normal after a short while. Not a problem for me. But thanks for the knowledge you offer into the solution.
Interesting. It definitely bothered me a good bit so I couldn’t live with it any longer 😅👍🏼 that’s sort of how mine was too. It wouldn’t work for the first 80-100 miles, but was perfectly fine after
This is an extremely valuable video for Saab DIYers. Great stuff. The only time in my life that I've ever run out of gas was due to a broken fuel level sender in my '06 Aero. It's one of those "quality of life" repairs that I should have done, but it was so involved that I opted out and was ok just using the trip odometer for tracking my fuel level (which is obviously not fool proof!).
@@AutoAutopsy saw it on a chrisfix video, wont let me share the link here, so look up "How to Clean Out the ENTIRE Fuel System (Vandalized with Sugar in Gas Tank)" and start at 5 : 30
@@AutoAutopsy would of been Very Useful knowing that when we needed to get that line tucked under the pump cover when getting it out of the tank smh!!!
I’ve done many fuel pumps on both the 2.0 and 2.8. The OE fuel level sensor is crap. I managed to get an ORIGINAL fuel pump assembly on a 2004 9-3 back in 2017 and the fuel level sensor has started to drop randomly. I did my 09 XWD last year and the fuel level sensor has already started to randomly drop. Same deal, GM original sensor.
Thank you as always for the very informative video. Here’s hoping your original pump lasts longer than mine. I, too, replaced only the sending unit, and six months later was stranded when the pump quit. In my experience, the fuel pump is one of the few parts on a car that will fail completely without warning!
Great video! Convinced me I wont be trying this though, will just continue to use my odometer 😂. Your channel is awesome and has been super helpful thank you!
Instead of a steel screwdriver on the fuel pump locking ring, it is MUCH safer to use a brass punch. The steel banging against the locking ring can create a spark, and then BOOM, the job is over but not in the way you intended.
I bought it from Maptun back when I had plans to do the entire overall. But esaab, FCP, etc. have just the sender. I show the PN on the screen during the video, if you need it (it’s pretty easy to find online though)
Just a note, not all B207 fuel pump assemblies and fuel level senders are the same. The 58L tanks use a different pump and level sender. From Australia here and have a 2006 B207 9-3SS and it’s vastly different to this setup
@ you’re welcome! The general work regarding the tank removal and install is very similar of course. I found myself ordering a fuel pump assembly when I bought my NG9-3 B207 to solve a hard start issue, and everything that arrived was incorrect unfortunately. You live and learn 👍🏼
Is this the same part as the 9-5? My gauge goes halfway up after I fill up the car. Eventually it rises to the full level, but have stuck leveler I think.
Do you know how to fix my central locking? The other day I went to unlock with the remote and it did not work, I replaced the battery and still nothing it’s de-cynced from my car I believe
@@AutoAutopsy I just disconnected it and reconnected it and it’s working again. Thank you for paying for the past few weeks. I’ve had to key unlock the passenger side reached over and press the unlock button then get out and walk around to the other side to unlock it and then the reverse to lock it

Designers who come up with these crappy contraptios should be forced up front do do repairs when things are still in the prototype phase. This is really sickening, no considerations at all about accessibility. If I had to change the sender on my 96 (the model, not the MY) it would be ready within half an hour, let's say an hour as there is always something not cooperating. Occasionally good looking 9-3's are put up for sale here at reasonable prices and I may be tempted to to get rid of the rusty 9000 and 9-5 and buy one. Thank you for curing me.

Thanks Michael! You’re not alone in that - I know A LOT of people do that on their 9-3’s 👍🏼😄
after doing this job 3 times in a row lol i found out the clips to the lines dont have to come out, you push the clip in as you pull the line out
Oh? Maybe I’ll have to try that next time. I don’t see much of a way to push in since they sit flush but I will try

Nice video as always. It's nice to know the story after last time you've got stranded.

Tip: paint the fuel tank braces with zinc rich primer or just a can of zinc spray (usually for protecting welding)

It’s different. Maybe it is stuck on something, like you mentioned? That’s odd!

my new project 9-3... hopefully has a faulty ABS module. (the alternative is having faulty wiring... somewhere)
You just need to weld inside abs box
@wander9820 elaboration would be appreciated

It’s really a pretty simple job (at least in my opinion)! 😅👍🏼
Ya, okay 👍 I'll just keep track of my miles on my Saab 93 2.0 instead of going through all that madness.
It’s a pretty easy job! Lol
Had the same issue don't buy the saab part the chevy cobalt was the same sender
Why not? I always recommend people buy the OEM part when possible
@AutoAutopsy because saab used a gm part it is identical, it is OEM.I replaced it 10 years ago still works perfect
Instead of dropping the fuel tank a hole can be cut in the sheet metal under the back seat, very easy but of not as serious.
do not do this, dropping the tank is easier.
That’s not the way to go about this job! 😅 dropping the tank is pretty easy
