Shelby('s) Tech Tangents is honestly kind of bland and makes it just sound like a Linus Tech Tips ripoff. While Tech Tangents isn't perfect, just adding his real name to it doesn't fix it and if anything makes it even worse. Tech Tangents isn't great but it rolls off the tongue and I think spelling the name "techtangents" (all lowercase, no spaces) looks really nice and gives the name some flair.
You should have gone with Avocado Technology, but I suppose your choice is a tad better. I disagree that AkBKukU is "stupid", it's not, but I do agree that it is not a good fit for something that relies on word of mouth and other such promoting for success. I also dig the early 90s vibe from those sneak peak graphics :D

When one of your videos first popped up as as suggested to me I didn't really take it seriously because of the channel name. Then when I finally started watching a few things, I was really shocked by how good it was.
Just stumbled onto your channel, I like the narrative and low key ("no stress") tone in your videos. No thumping tecno or metal music, just focus on the gears at hand. keep it on!

I'm a new viewer and just discovered you like a month ago based on my TH-cam suggestions. I quickly started watching the back catalog and have enjoyed everything I've seen so far. I found this video inspiring and have a huge amount of respect and support for your dieticians to go full time. I hold you right up there with my other TH-cam heroes in no particular order like LGR, The 8-Bit Guy, BigCliveDotCom, Julian Ilett, Lon.TV, Technology Connections, and Matthias Wandel (and of course crazy LTT lol). I completely understand. I've changed channel names a few times, and still not overly happy with it. But at least now when I tell it to someone, they can understand. I also understand taking on sponsorship's. I really wish I was in that position since losing monitization, but probably never will be, just because of my niche content. Love the channel. I agree with your decisions with changes youre about to make. The new channel name seems a good choice too. This channel one of the few new channels I've discovered this year and I really like the many different aspects of this channel fom vintage type writers to modern ish server builds. Also yiu have raised memories of my youth computing on dos 6.2 editing my autoexec.bat and config.sys files to make my soundblaster work. Good luck with your endeavors as a full time youtuber!

Just found your channel today because of the Playstation 3D tv was recommended to me and I watched it because I almost bought one back when it came out, also watched some of your other vids and definitely subbed.
When I first stumbled upon your channel and later wanted to go back to it, I couldn't remember your channel name for the life of me. Took me a while to find it again. It's also hard to recommend it to people in non online conversation.
You make great videos I really enjoy watching. I think a bit of a rebrand is perfectly reasonable considering the route you want to take the channel. May there be many more videos! Also you got me into flip clocks so cheers for that lol.
As much as i do like AkBKuKu, i agree it's worth a change to something new. That said I'm on the fence about the Technology Tangents name even if it does shorten to TT (Akba's TT anyone? No?). Its generic and easily said but i fear it could get lost between channels like Techmoan and Technology Connections. But that also said I can't offer a different name that does your channel justice and you are the final decider of such fate so I only offer my two cents on what you have said

AkBKukU is not a stupid name, it's unique...also the logo is your signature, something no one else has. For pronunciation purposes, Tech Tangents would be a fitting name for the channel...but this channel will always be known as AkBKukU to me. (By the way, where can I get one of those Compaq hats?)
Dude, just keep the great content coming. Your name and graphics package is part of your brand but your brand can sometimes be only as strong as your content. Let your content do the talking and it won’t matter what name/graphics or even sponsorship does. Just keep it up. Really love the content.
Tech Tangents is a great name. You do a great job explain on how 'YOU' do things. Which might be different then another channel, which is fine. Gives me other ideas of how to repair stuff that I might not of thought of.

I used to be the person that was like "NO, DONT CHANGE THE CHANNEL NAME!", then Kyle over at Bitwit, previously Awesomesauce. I have grown to accept the change I'm sure this change will be for the better, I come for the great technical content, not a name. As an electronic engineer who has a love for old electronics, I find your videos as well as other channels like Druaga1 and The 8 bit guy to be a great source for information. As long as the content stays interesting I’ll keep watching. Like others, I hope there will be subtle AkBKukU references in the future videos, as an inside reference to the channel's beginnings. Name change sounds good. It's more clear what the channel is about. Tho when I first did find your channel via the IDE CD changer video I got recommended after an LGR video 2 years ago. The name was one of the first things I did notice, and made me wonder if you did focus on videos like it.

Name change sounds good. It's more clear what the channel is about. Tho when I first did find your channel via the IDE CD changer video I got recommended after an LGR video 2 years ago. The name was one of the first things I did notice, and made me wonder if you did focus on videos like it.

Changing the name is a good plan - it was always going to be something that kept it spreading via word of mouth. Tech Tangents sounds perfectly fine. You could call it 'Shelby's Stupid Shit' and I'd still like and watch every time.
I think "Shelby's Stupid Shit" might actually be an improvement over "Tech Tangents".
Regardless of name your name, I'm always glad to see more of your work. Keep it up!
