Our '64 Airstream (which was a real boondocker) had two 7 pound tanks. (Not sure is that should be gallon). We could switch over when one ran out and could fill up the dead one. My teardrop has a 2.5 er but it just runs the stove. I did buy one of these gauges and should be able to get the tank up rnough to slap it on. Thanks for the review!

Man, your tips and how-tos are just so spot on! Thanks for reminding me about that device. Been meaning to get one.
Here's my humble contribution on that note and I've been doing this for a very long time. While I've not spent probably anywhere remotely near as much time as you camping in the freezing cold, snow, etc. being a West coast dweller and all that it's still tedious. I've been doing the boiled water pour over since I was a kid. My dad taught me that one and my little twist is just every few days and based on a running tally in my head of propane use, when boiling up water for meals or chores just save a little to go check the tank. Yeah, it works. But yours is so much cooler!
Being a professional nerd I NEED to get one of those, a battery shunt and along with data from my charge controller then cobble together my own wife-irritating geekly mess to funnel all of that data into one app. Practical? No idea but it will certainly be fun.
And if I may share another tip, here you go. Sometime ago I mentioned to you using rock lights for under-lighting mainly to keep the rodents away. Yeah, scrap that. It's neat and fancy but now I just toss a couple lucy lights under the truck and trailer. Those things are inexpensive, easy to use, easy to buy, last all night and then some running on low and are silly durable. The critters seem to dislike them and they're so inexpensive that if you meet a fellow camper in need of a light, just give them one.
As for cat videos vs. Brian? I could just watch you on one screen and cats on the other. At the same time! Whoohoo! Ballin! Do people still watch cat videos? I digress.

I forgot to update you, no mice issues whats-so-ever, I think you're spot on!

Great informative video. I was going to buy one of the gauge type. Glad I procrastinated for once. I get propane anxiety just walking by the tanks and I have 2 20lb tanks on an Ipod 180.

this propane monitoring is the best thing I bought in 2022.
is crazy easy. no need for wiring or anything.
just make sure you remember removing the magnet from the tank when you replace it.
is a must buy, specially if you have only one tank.
the needle on the other traditional gauge get stuck very frequently on one level. then you get a little surprise of an empty tank.
Me too, I love it! Some folks have reported issues, I should do a short troubleshooting video. Every once in a while, I have to adjust mine but it’s one of the better things I’ve done for the camper… huge upgrade

1- going down the rabbit hole I found people having issues with moister in cold weather and the circuits of these units.
but I also found someone found a solution pre- protecting them with "MG Chemicals - 422B-340G 422B Silicone Conformal Coating, Clear, 340 gram Aerosol"
2- I just found out the same company have a fresh water monitoring solution that Im deftly trying.
the original RV tank measurements havent improved the 3 level gauge since 1842

I currently have a device that is a basically a scale that you hold in your hand and pick up the tank with and it will show you how full your tank is. Not percentage but more like full, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4. Which is ok and has been pretty accurate. BUT - i like this Mopeka device you have here as it breaks down to percentage,(which I like alot) and I can be inside the camper and check and don't have to go outside and remove the tank to check. Lastly I would not have "propane tank anxiety" !! Thanks for the demo. I will put this on my list of things to get.
it really upped the game, Ive used the scale too. Once the snow and ice fly, you start adding weight too!!

Thanks, Brian! I'm going to buy this propane sonar thingy! I look forward to your tips for winter camping! I would love to take the Bean out this winter but I don't have a heater in it so teach me your ways! Also I just have to tell you that I bought a tow strap to move my trailer around on your recommendation and it has saved me so much aggravation getting it in and out of my backyard!

Has anyone ever had there sensor fall off the bottom of their tank on the hwy? Wondering if some tape on it would help hold?
Mine hasn’t budged, even on road roads and long trips. I wonder if tape would work in non-ferris tanks, I’ll have to try.

Hi Brian! Thanks for the information. When you have an RV that has a panel in it that shows gray water, black water, and LP tank, does this show the level of LP in the tank, so you don’t need one of these devices? I have just moved from teardrop to small RV. Thanks
If it has LP on it, it likely has a horizontal tank with a meter in it, youlll be fine with that. How do you like the new camper?
IT has been tough start. Roof leaked in various places. Had to replace all 6 tires and battery. Im thinking of going to a tandem 6v set up, but they just put in a 12v when it was dead upon pick up
@@janetwest3103 more camper, more problems! Going with a bigger camper is always tempting, but I do enjoy the simplicity of less things to go wrong. I hope they get everything set up for you and there's many years of enjoyment ahead!
Returned mine same day. Very finicky, imagine how much more finicky it would be after a few miles on the road if it’s still there…
What a bummer. I think I will do another video showing install tips. Mine has worked perfectly for many, many miles and trips, but I see others have had trouble getting a consistent, accurate signal. Thanks for swinging by and leaving feedback, I appreciate it.
@@DIYOutdoorLife I synced it up no problem. Used dielectric grease and centered it. Cleaned underside with alcohol first. It said weak signal, 77%, then 100%, then empty. I reset it all a few times, but still no good. It is a gray 20 lbs tank, odd that it’s not white. Maybe it was the tank.
@@kjlcycler tough to say, but getting the 100% signal is a must. It should just be red light or green light. When it's not 100% signal strength, it doesnt work. It's honestly one of my favorite gadgets, but of course its only good if it works. Sorry for the pain.
This looks great. I have never heard of these before. I'm wondering if you are able to replace the battery when it is required or is it like the old Tile trackers where you had to replace the unit after a couple of years?

Oh my those are quite pricy. For one that's not too bad. But I have 6 tanks that I monitor frequently so I don't think I would buy one for all 6. Can they be quickly switched between tanks? If that's the case then I might just look into a couple.

Wow, that’s a lotta propane. Since it’s just a magnet, you could probably switch it around and recalibrate, not sure how easy it would be.
@@DIYOutdoorLife yeah we have three on the 5th wheel, on on the house bbq, and one for the fire bowl. Now we will have one more on the free solo.
