      I'm a Pats fan. But I lived in California during the 90's and my best buddy out there was a huge Raider fan !! Just dies Silver and Black like you !! Now of course im not a Raider fan. But I can appreciate Raider nation and my favorite defensive player of all time is Lester Hayes !! And my favorite uniforms are the uniforms they wore in this game ! Just that silver and white with black lettering !! My 2nd favorite uniform is the white with maroon and gold of the Niners !! Both just classy and basic but just beautiful !!

      @jacktheripoff1888 you bleed silver and black my brother. I always loved the 76 Bengals game. Last week of season. Steelers were going for 3rd sb win in a row. We had nothing to play for. If we tanked they were out of playoffs. Last regular season game of 76. MNF. We went out and kicked butt. Knocked Bengals out on home field. Then beat steelers in afc championship before.destroying vikings I. SB XI

    Sipe got greedy -- and he paid for it ... the Raiders were a team of destiny in 1980. My all time hero is the late, great Mike Davis, for that incredible pick. I was lucky enough to meet him a few years later in the Raider locker room. He signed a photo for me that day, and it's been on the wall in my MANROOM ever since !

      Sipe only attempted the pass because Coach Ratigliano lost all confidence In the kicking game after Cockroft missed two Field Goals and One extra point. Holder Paul McDonald was wearing Scuba Diving Gloves. As a result; The ball was not spun away from the strings. I blame Paul McDonald for the loss.

Which is a shame cause I consider him one of the most dynamic running back of his era ! I'm glad he won a Superbowl with the Redskins. I love your knowledge of the NFL. I can tell you love the history of the game like myself. I'm from Boston so big fan of the Pats. I started watching the NFL in 81 when I was 8. Actually I loved the Cowboys as a kid - which everyone did it seemed. I remember exactly where I was for the Drive and the Fumble and I was really pulling for the Browns cause I like Brian Brennen from BC. And the Fumble really bummed me out. I actually had that play on a cassette tape. I had a tape recorder and taped it for the heck of it. So I remember the call by Emberg so vividly. And the way Byner just slumped to the ground after he fumbled the ball was really super sad ! Like I'm sad right now thinking about it and I don't even like the Browns. He was so amazing in that game ! Running and catching balls all over the field..

    No multiple SB winning QB, with a SB MVP to go with it, had such a career of extremes. 1st overall pick, offensive rookie of the year, looked all good. By '75 the Patriots gave up on him and traded, and in '77 Frisco gave up on him and flat out waived. The Raiders got him off the waiver wire for 100 bucks. A third stringer, then a second mostly by default. Then Pastorini gets hurt, and nobody and I mean NOBODY saw what was coming. But finally he had talent around him at receivers, running backs, and an offensive line. EVERY SB winning QB has to have them. But he still had to make the most of it and man did he ever. It's still the NFL's greatest comeback story.

    I love Plunkett and he should be in the HOF, but imagine the Raiders if the NFL does not stop the trade for Elway or the take Marino instead of Don Mosebar, who was a great pick. But think of that Raiders' team in the 80's with Mario taking over after Super Bowl 18.

      And Bo never got hurt. I'd like to see that team.

    • @jackprecip5389
      @jackprecip5389 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Raiders had no intention of taking Marino in '83, because quite frankly, nobody anticipated Marino becoming as good as he was. His last year in college had some problems, and in the '83 draft, 5 other QB's were taken before him. Keep in mind, the Raiders had used their #1 pick in the '80 draft for Marc Wilson, who was a superstar at BYU, and in '83, they still believed he was their future. Hindsight is a wonderful tool to play the "what if" game, but it doesn't really accomplish anything, as nobody has a time machine. Mosebar started almost every game on the O-Line for 11 straight years and made 3 Pro Bowls. All things considered, that was a pretty good pick. Sure, Marino was a once in a lifetime legend, but there's no way anybody could have foreseen that.
      The more applicable "what if" is what would have happened if the NY Jets picked Marino instead of Ken O' Brien 3 picks before the Dolphins did? Could you imagine Marino in the New York media and marketing realm with some of the talent they had in the 80's? No disrespect to Duper and Clayton, but if Marino was throwing to Wesley Walker, Al Toon, and Mickey Shuler, with Freeman McNeil as a running back and had the Jet "Sack Exchange' defense, I'm guessing he might have gotten that elusive ring (then again, what NFC team could they beat in the 80's?) The Jets had already decided to pick a QB, and it was now down to just O'Brien out of UC Davis and Marino out of Pitt. Elway, Blackledge, Kelly, and Eason had already been picked, and no other QB's were on the radar. In fact, here's one of the greatest trivia questions of all time, as you'll stump almost everybody, and the question is: Who was the next QB drafted after Marino in the '83 draft? First off, you'd have to go all the way to the FIFTH ROUND to find the next one, and you'll come to Jeff Christensen (out of East Illinois) who was out of the league the next year having never thrown a pass and who came back in 1987 to start 2 games for the Browns as a strike replacement player, and when the strike was over, so officially was his career.

    Was a 10 yr old at the time. A true Raiders fan from the town who thought i was the problem when *we* lost. Only True Raiders fans understand these emotions:
    Hated playing in Seattle against Zorn and Largent in the King dome when we wore white. Thought 1977 was a great year in my life. Hated the 70s steelers, especially Franco Harris. Loved Matuzak, Branch, Van Engan, Hayes and Hendricks. Knew how to dangle my fingers in a stance like Hayes before the play started. Taped my fingers like Balitnicof. Hated John Jefferson and Kelen Winslow.
    Thought the Coliseum was special and the Raiders fans were family, White and Black although i grew up in a Panther neighborhood. Asked my 4th grade teacher not to give me homework because of the Monday Denver game. 😂Thought Al Davis was mafia with the white or black athletic suits, shades, slicked back hair, and smoky voice.
    Loved Kenny King's run in the 1981 SB and this play against Sipe and Newsome. One of the best days of my young life...

      yep 1980 and 83 were the last of the great Raiders teams. The game changed after that and AL Davis refuse to. Besides the first Gruden era I'd say 1985 was the last good Raider team with Marcus Allen winning the MVP and the defense being very good. Plunkett was lost for the season that year when a 49er lineman body slammed him and destroyed his shoulder and then Marc Wilson ruined any chance that team had to win a Super Bowl. That's all on AL Davis who thought he was a good QB.

But it was the right call; Cockroft had a horrible day kicking, and odds were stacked against making a FG. Sipe was supposed to throw the ball into Lake Erie if nobody was open, but he was being pressured by Hendricks, and he didn't. The weather probably caught that pass too.
