1 tail or 2 tail will be decided as per the H1... If your H1 hypothesis involves either > or < sign then use 1-tail and if H1 involves NOT EQUAL TO SIGN then use 2-tail.

For large sample, it will not provided usually.... But for small sample , t values provided ... So remember Z- values at 5% and 1% level of significance for both one and two tails for large samples.
