Here in GA I am preparing for a tropical storm and 4-8 inches of rain.Rain starting later today and storm tomorrow evening. Not a lot to do because I am prepared but have to pick up objects outside and check lanterns and radio for batteries. It’s always something !
Lots of pecans and sounds like they taste good even not cured. Looks like you got a lot of greens growing and hope get a little rain. Hope adjusting the electric fence will help keep darn deer out. Those deer can definitely jump high. I like how your thinking ahead to keep the water running the other direction and neat your going to do the galvanized look. I hope the hurricane doesn't come your way and yes get that heart procedure out of the way. Thanks for sharing what your doing with the building and cane mill. I sure appreciate your creativity and thinking ahead on things.
Our ground is still wet from the last rains and we are gearing up for the rain from the coming hurricane this weekend. My plan for the raised beds this fall/ winter is to get weed cloth and mulch between all the beds. The mosquitoes have been so bad that I don’t go outside as much as I need to be. We are NE Florida, but praying for all our coastal neighbors who will be impacted by the hurricane. I’m loving that new building and watching with interest. We need a place for dispatching chickens and that looks perfect. I think of it as the Pecan Porch. Shalom
After last year’s dry brown at this time, it’s a blessing to have lush green, and I’m sure that all the critters, domestic and wild, are saying - fervently - AMEN.
Maybe you can build a dry creek bed on the high side of the building, to divert the rain water around, it so the water doesn’t wash under your building.
Going to be a fantastic building. My barn is the old galvanized metal. I watched the Amish put a new roof on and the sheets were 20 feet. They put the clamps on the end and his 80 year old dad guided it as he pulled the sheets up by the rope. Made it easy to get the metal up two stories. It’s a tall barn.
Hey y'all, I'm no Pecan expert, but I am an Okie and we have a loootttt of Pecan trees, the 3 you had there are the most common kind for the S-SE region. The long skinny is called Desirable, the Fat one is called Stuart, and I *think* that little bitty is called Candy. Those are the same kinds we have here and those are what my granny called them.
I love watching build videos. So interesting. Could you put a French drain along the uphill side of that shed? Maybe help with drainage. Thanks for sharing your life with us!
For what it’s worth, I just watched a video on beauty berries. The fruits are edible and can be made into jams and jellies, and the leaves repel insects.
I had some Meahans and some small rounder one that tasted a little buttery good . We’d shell them and put them in the freezer for baking at the holidays
Hey Danny. Do tou know about a palm nailer? You hook it up to an air line and it will drive a nail through boards and tin like butter!! They are cheap too. We got Ours at harbor freight. Check it out!
Double fencing problem. I seen it on “Living Traditions Homestead “ and I think it was 4 or 5’ spacing. Check them out. I think the shorter span is what confuses the deer. Just an idea. Love you two.
I can tell you what worked for us as far as 3D fence, but your deer might be a totally different animal. A 3 strand electric fence 6-7 foot high, and a 3 foot 1 strand about 4 feet in front of it. Has kept deer out for two years.
I watched the video when you got your new lawn mower. My question is how's the seating? We had a riding lawn mower once but it was so rough I could barely move after mowing
I heard the two fences have to be same height six feet apart for it to work. They have to not be able to judge distances, like 6’ chain links six feet apart. Their depth of perception is poor.
Apparently a farmer is a deer's best friend until he takes it out. When the famine comes and it's people coming instead of deer because they ate all the deer, would the fences and electronic dog barking keep them out? Might want to get a real one. Just a thought.
One thing about experience in doing this job by yourself: you have become a master of using a drop of brain sweat to save yourself a gallon of back sweat.
I think that goats were on the homestead at DSH, but were more trouble than they were worth. Danny has Dexters, which are grateful for their relative abundance of grazing compared to what they had at DSH, and - probably when D&W have time (🤣) and freezer space - there will be meat sheep grown from weaning to harvest. They let nothing go to squander.
You should do a rain catchment system off of that building since it's so close to the high tunnel.
I probably will
I've got to go to therapy this morning on my shoulder. Hope yalls day is blessed. God is good. Amen

We had a tree with those little roundish pecans. They tasted almost like they were dipped in butter. Also nice cameo of Mr. Chris.

For what it’s worth, I just watched a video on beauty berries. The fruits are edible and can be made into jams and jellies, and the leaves repel insects.
I use the leaves to repel mosquitoes and as a cover scent when I'm hunting.

Some used galvanized would already be rusty and give that “old” look.
It was just stagnant here in TEXAS yesterday

Most people can figure out how to use tools. Innovative people can imagine and devise tools.

Good morning. Gosh your fall preps are putting me to shame. This week is all about moving the firewood into the empty holders closer to the house.
Danny... take care of your lungs... if you're making that much dust you need a face covering...
Cutting grass?
That's the goats jobs
We don't raise goats
