    We had a Cardigan for 14 years. He was wonderful. He herded Girl Scouts. He also saved us from Ninja squirrels, the neighbors dogs and any creature he came across.

    The only corgis I have met are neurotic suburban tubbers with owners who treat them like Maltese/lap dogs. It's awesome to see dogs doing what they're bred for and actually happy.

    We have a Pembroke Corgi (with a slight Cardigan mix 4 generations back), she is the best dog we have ever had. Excellent trail manners, open field command training was very easy. Incredibly intelligent, everything this presenter says about them is true. Always egar to please! She's very alert but doesn't bark that much as we trained that out of her when inside. She 'grumbles/awoofs more' to tell us whats wrong, outside she communicates back with us in the field. :) They shed a TON though and can be very destructive if they don't get exercise or a job to do! We have her crate trained, she has her own 'leave me alone' spots in the house along with Nylabones/kongs. Ropes under supervision. This helps us with their destructive tendencies.
    She's right here -> in fact watching with me wanting a buddy.

    I have a Corgi terrier mix.
    She is a total crack up.
    Always wants to play.
    Always thinks every walk is a hunting trip.
    She is extremely intuitive.
    The best dog I've owned since my Aussie Border collie mix.

    It’s like a low rider border collie haha. Corgis make me laugh whenever I see them. I remember my cousins corgi hurt his back jumping off the bed! So they had to get steps for the bed. Another great video zeke!

      Show/pet type Corgis have too-long backs and too-short legs, like Dachshunds. It's a nightmare for their spines, huge risk of twisting or swinging them unnaturally when they jump bc there's no support. Awful thing to breed for.

    • @samgardner4667
      @samgardner4667 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      joey they don’t breed for it. It’s just how they’re made. If an owner was responsible, they wouldn’t hurt themselves like that.

    • @yorkshire_tea_innit8097
      @yorkshire_tea_innit8097 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The dangerous breeds are for the most part only dangerous to other dogs. Providing you raise them at least mediocrely so they don't attack people, which isn't so hard because most of the "dangerous breeds" are pretty stupid and low maintenance. So yeah, very brave of you. Im the one fighting your dog as a stranger when it attacks mine for no reason..

    • @neverdullday7432
      @neverdullday7432 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ryukey somebody's triggered... dangerous is in quotations for a reason. Dangerous to people, other dogs, large/small game, livestock predators, all apply. I was referring to the Toy, Herding, and Non-sporting breeds; many of which aren't on this channel yet. Thanks for the input

    The Cardigan and Pembroke were NEVER together in the US. In England there was a short period in the 1930s when a few were mixed.
    The Cardigans were bred to be an all-around farm dog with Welsh cattle and sheep, which are much smaller than American cattle and sheep.

    Not all Pembroke tails are docked. Pembroke corgis have been bred to have fewer vertebrae in the tail so many are born without it. There are ones born with tails and depending on their job they either dock them or leave them be. Having a tail around cattle is a detriment as the tail would often get stepped and/or stomped on.

    • @12dakattack
      @12dakattack 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Cardigans were bred for cattle also and they have tails. It had to do with taxation. Docking the tail showed it was a working farm dog and therefore would not have to pay taxes on it. Very few Pembrokes have a natural bobtail. Most are born with tails and docked when they are a couple of days old.

    2:35 Cattle dogs are what? They absolutely DO NOT grab cattle by the nose, it's NOT their instinct, it's NOT how they are trained. They are named HEELERS for a reason. That's one of the most ignorant statements I've ever 'herd'.

    I'd like to know why the dogs are so obesity-prone. Also, if you want a smaller herding dog for cattle or sheep, an Australian Cattle Dog or a Kelpie is going to do just as good as the corgi, while having a lower risk of obesity and bloat.

      Obesity is more of a problem with Pembrokes. If you want to avoid it you don't overfeed them.
      I don't think it's for you to say which dogs are better at herding in different situations.

    • @youcantstopthescout8921

      I have a cardigan corgi which I got when she was 9 and is 13 1/2 now. I was told she had a weight problem before I got her but she never has with me. It took about a year for her to get used to having food anytime she wants but now she keeps her weight just right. We only walk about an hour a day though she is with me 24/7 so she greets people at construction sites too. I used to have a corgi/husky mix and the only time she had a weight problem is when neighbors were feeding her steak every day without telling me. After that, she came back to normal in a few months. I let my dog lick my plate after I eat but not a bunch of table scraps. So I don't know why some people have fat dogs.

    I miss my cardi so very much. We didn't really herd but she and I worked out our own method of herding 2 cats when they would escape. She learned comebye and comeaway. Then hold'em was for when she would catch and hold a cat down with her paw. That was done long enough for me to get to her and pick it up. She would try to do put'em in the house but the refused to be directed. So I would pick it up and carry to the house. But she would fuss if I tried to put the cat in the garage or the sunroom. I was clearly informed I had said in the house and those were not in the house. This would happen often because that house had only sliding glass doors. My large tomcat found a small hole in the door and could get one claw in and open that heavy door enough to pull it open more then they were out.
