    Great video, soothing music. Nice to see that you are using the same magnetic digital counter that I bought for winding my pickups as well!

    Hi! Thanks for this very illustrative video. If don't mind me asking, how do you strip the isolation from the wire to solder it to the terminals? Thanks again.

    Great video. The strat sound in the music is absolutely sublime too. Super clear, but warm, and alive with tons of dynamic contrast. Also I need one of those bobbin press jigs!

      Sounds like a fender through a fender to me. Could be wrong... I like the tone, so many demo guitars and pickups with gain on.

    Hi, the video is really cool. Out of curiosity, what mixture do you use in time 1:49 to immerse the finished bobbin (flatwork + alnico polepieces)?

  • @nathanpollard3368
    @nathanpollard3368 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Was the plate at the bottom magnetic? For a pickup, does there need to be only one magnet? For example, if you have vertical pole pieces, do you need a separate magnet underneath?

  • @fabrizioincao

    Hi, I would like to start building my own pickups at home there are certain things chose that are not clear to me about the spacer with STRAT written on it at minute 1:02 of the video. Where can these guides be found commercially? do they even exist for different guitar models? I thank you for your patience but this is something that would help me not to make construction mistakes.

    What is the purpose of the metal plate at the bottom of the pickup? I thought the wires were just connected to the ends of the copper coil.

    Great job congratulations. Help me please. When I reel the pick up the wire almost always breaks. What should I do, start over or weld the wire and continue? Another thing, how do you position the spool of thread so that it does not break as it unfolds?
    Thank you.

    Late comment - but do you recall what gauge strings you were using? Just trying to figure out how heavy that was effecting the tone, particularly the low end. The pickups sound absolutely amazing, but i play lighter strings and am trying to back into how they would sound on my gear. cheers

    And can I use home brewed or should I splurge and go get something from Starbucks?

    Here's a really stupid question: when the wire is wound, it's wound around all six poles. What would happen if each pole had its own winding around it? Would it work? Sound different (like terrible?)

    What a great video! I love seeing how such a wonderful pickup comes together. Just wondering, towards the start it appears you wax pot it (?), but then what were you dipping the pickup in at 4:30? Looked like a cup of coffee! 😂

    • @RadioshopPickups
      @RadioshopPickups  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Gabe! At the start of the video we dip the bobbins in Nitrocellulose to insulate the magnets and coat the bobbins. We are thinking about putting up a 2nd video with commentary too so hopefully people will like that :) Paul

    • @GxBxN
      @GxBxN 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Radioshop Pickups ahh that was Nitro at the start, I see. What about the ‘black’ looking stuff towards the end? Is that some kind of wax or different solution to pot it in?
      A video with commentary would certainly be awesome for us gear heads who get obsessed about every element of town making 😊
      Thanks Paul. Love you work, as always.

    • @RadioshopPickups
      @RadioshopPickups  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GxBxN Yes indeed, it's a mix of paraffin wax and beeswax, just like in the old days! It protects the winds from breakages and also gets rid of feedback :)

    you made a clockwise pickup, but the black wire is connect to the out wire ,,,and the white to the beginning,,,I see in others pickups that is upside down,,why you do that?

    • @iraevans2013

      Different manufacturers use different color orientations for wiring. Some major brands diagrams can actually be looked up for after market coil splitting or out of phase wiring.
