    beautiful arabians! ... someone compare them to "lamas" but probably doesn't know the differences existing inside this special breed. Five are the "families" of arabian horse: Kuhaylan, Saqlawi, Abbayan, Hamdani, Hadban ... pls look carefully at each type before calling "lama" the king of horses and maybe will find something interesting. Congratulation Anette for the beautiful pictures posted.

    I see they are still breeding for these excessively "dished" faces. My mare was Polish with quite a few desert bred horses in her pedigree. When I was in Egypt, the horses there did not have these types of faces. Arabian horses are beautiful and graceful, this head type totally ruins it for me. Very nice video Anette, thanks for posting

      @tlburrell I just said the same thing. I rode many horses in Southern Egypt and non had a deformed head like most of those horses in this clip have. It's becoming ridiculous and unhealthy for the breed. They soon will have respiratory problems, if their faces get any narrower.

    • @tlburrell
      @tlburrell 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @ Seleuce You are so right, look what the breeders did to the Pug, they have so many respiratory issues some can't even be walked much, such a shame.

      I agree, it is very disappointing to see the breeding of an exaggerated, distorted face. Ugly to my eyes and you don't ride the head. I thought the over-all conformation poor, looks like they bred for head and forgot the body. Shaving around the eyes and greasing the face is also ugly. I see them making the same mistakes US breeders were making 30 years ago.

    you guys are thinking of POLISH Arabs that have a flat head these Arabians naturally have an extremely dished face.This is coming from a girl whose Mom used to work,train and breed for various Arabian barns.

    • @invisiblegirl3915
      @invisiblegirl3915 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Various Arabian barns are breeding llama faced freaks for shows (like most in this video). It's not just polish Arabs (Which don't have flat faces, btw). My straight Egyptian Arabian mare didn't look like a freak, she looked more like a grey version of Cass Ole (the horse from The Black Stallion, who didn't look like a llama). A dear friend was working on preserving a line of Arabians (Babson Arabians from the imported stock of Henry Babson of desert bred Arabian horses) to keep the well tempered, sweet, loyal, yet stunningly beautiful line from going extinct. This extreme look has been bred for in recent history. My friend and I discussed it frequently, as she had been preservation breeding for decades and was there to bear witness to the mutation over time.

    Awesome horses, very beautiful, but question the deeper dished faces I’m seeing more lately. I prefer the desert Arabians. I love Arabian horses, but not the ones with the exaggerated dished faces, and I’ve seen both types, one with a deeper dished face and one with only a slightly dished face. The one with the extreme facial look was having trouble breathing, while the one with a less pronounced feature was breathing more normally. I once rode a half Arab/half Morgan bred horse, he had all the looks of an Arabian, but only had a slightly dished face. He was a great horse to ride and I could ride him for over long distances.…I sure miss him.

    The Arabian horse is stronger and faster than the English horse

    • @marysueeasteregg
      @marysueeasteregg 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stronger for its size. I dearly wish Thoroughbred breeders were free to breed back to performance-type Arabians (not these halter horses) to improve the bone in TBs. And Arabians are much faster at endurance distance races; they are without peer in that activity.
      But if by the English horse you mean the Thoroughbred, the Arabian certainly is *not* faster at sprint or middle distance type races. Here is a comparison of Thoroughbred North American dirt records for various distances, and U.S. Arabian dirt records:
      TB 2 furlongs: 20:57 sec 5 f: 55.2 sec 8 f. (1 mile) 1:32.2 sec
      AR 2 furlongs: 23.4 5 f: 1:00.4 8 f. (1 mile) 1:45.4 sec
      TB 10 f: 1:57.8 sec 12 f: 2:24 sec. 16 f: 3:19.2 sec
      AR 10 f: 2:14.1 sec 12 f: 2:47.2 sec 16 f: 4:09 sec
      At sprint distances of around a quarter of a mile, Quarter Horses average faster than Thoroughbreds.

      No, it means you know nothing about horses, or the changes man has made to the breed. They go for extremes and that human desire for the extreme RUINS dogs and horses. QH people bred for "neat feet" and ended up with massive bodies on legs that couldn't hold them. Dog and cats bred for pushed in noses end up with breathing problems, long bodies with back problems and large dogs with hip displasia. These extreme heads end up with very narrow mouths, and issues with breathing.

      @@adoerfler totally agree with you on this point….seen too many beautiful horses with excessive breeding conditions into their looks and NOT enough for stamina, strength of bone structure or other qualities which would make it stronger and less likely to break down at some point in time. Later a horse I had seen had to be put down at an younger age because of it. The bone structure in their faces also becomes weaker over time as well…..I have also begun noticing something else with this type of head exaggeration, their mouths are becoming more parrot like, where the top lips are becoming longer than the bottom lips, causing them to be over the bottom lips at times, and noticing it more while walking or other activities. For me this isn’t natural anymore. I prefer the desert bred Arabians to those with the excessive dished faces. 👍❤️

    Let me guess. .. females are not allowed to be handlers in the show ring. I didn't see one. Not surprising in the patriarchal UAE. A different universe with obscene wealth.
    I have noticed over the years that Arabs seem to be breeding their bloodstock towards a smaller and smaller muzzle and more prominent concavity ... the extreme tapering and narrowing has given the breed an almost deer-like profile. I hope this will not cause breathing , eating and dental issues as we have a less than stellar record with breeding for extreme physical appearances with canines such as pugs and feline Persians. Had anyone else noticed this trend in Arabs in particular? They have always had such exquisitely chiselled and concave profiles with large widely set eyes but the most recent breed iterations have taken this ideal to the "nth" degree. No ?
    Gotta hate the white bags being shaken around the perimeter and general hauling, jerking and other mechanisms these handlers employ to keep their horses in a state of fear induced high alert while showing. Yuk.
    Although there are some wonderful images captured, I was highly disappointed these were static photos and not video. As a horse lover it is vital to see them move to appreciate their beauty and conformation - not in stills like a fashion model.

    arabians are fine horses but I dissagree with the whole dished face process if a foal is born without a proper dished face is not considered an arabian I don't like this at all cause they sell the foal just cause they don't feel like its a pure arabian.These horses are really weak their muzzle is sensitive and they are only for show.Using "mutand" horses is not giving you anything but a cool brag and appearence thats why you rarely see arabians in boarding facilities/EC's they can't carry too much weigh they cost a fortune and can't perform movements with their head low they just can't.Some people even use oil for their intense facial features.Besides all that I really like arabians they have a really cool body shape and gaits but I would never recommend one for a begginer rider or western riders cause they just can't take such a weigh from the saddle

    • @Seleuce
      @Seleuce 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The classic desert Arabian actually can compete with most other breeds just fine as they are the finest, toughest, most intelligent horses with huge hearts, lungs, brilliant feet and lots of stamina. They live forever (well, over 30 years), seldomly get sick, need little food, little water, are very brave, spirited and still very dozile, cope well with heat and cold and very rough weather. They are, indeed, amazing. Millennia of very strict, selective breeding made them what they are: Hardy war and travel horses. I've been riding many in Egypt. Unfortunately, 99% of those modern Show Barby Arabs aren't desert Arabs. They are posh, living statements of a sick, filthy rich snob society. None of those horses would live long in the desert.
