for people unaware: the context of this song is that it was meant to play in place of 'it's not a game, it's just a ride', it's a bonus song in the soundtrack because the original late director rachel rockwell loved it.
the choir joining in to sing "be safe, be good" makes me imagine that it was the last thing their parents said to them before heading of, and how they wound up not being able to fulfill that through no fault of their own...
and it sucks because pennys family wasnt there for her since they were in jail during this, so she never got a final send off before she died on the cyclone
From a cast post: 'Be Safe, Be Good (For Rachel)’ is a lovely song on its own, given more significance with that tribute. Rachel Rockwell was the director and choreographer for many of the Ride the Cyclone productions. Her contributions to the show helped shape it into what it is today. Sadly, she passed away in 2018 after the Seattle production at ACT. The song is a ballad about doing all the right things and ‘things not [happening] quite the way they should.’”
When it goes "oh mama" it hits so hard. Like think, he did everything right. He tried so hard and as he's dying, all he could do is beg for his mama. Not even mom or mother or the more formal things but MAMA
Me and my family’s version of saying “be safe and be good” is “make good choices, don’t die”. Always in a joking manner but with my family history, and the amount of deaths we experienced in a short amount of time, we genuinely mean it. And just so we never jinx it, we always respond with “I’ll try”, or “No promises”.
I never went out swimming Directly after lunch I didn’t smoke No, I’d never text and drive I always wore my seatbelt, A life vest, Or sunscreen I had plans to stick around and stay alive I’d button up my jacket when the cold wind blew I brushed my teeth at least two times a day I never sat too close to the television To my parents, I would listen and obey “Be Safe,” they said, “Be good” But things don’t happen quite the way they should Oh, mama You know I’ve tried my best to toe the line Cause I thought at first that this universe had a reason or a rhyme Well you can dot your T’s and cross your I’s But steady yourself for the big surprise Cause sooner or later you realize It’s not fair Not fair And boiled down and simplified All that you can really do Is buckle in And hang on for the ride
@@croutonwu "Cross your T's and Dot your I's" is a real phrase meaning to be very meticulous, in another version of the song they do use the correct phrasing, here however I don't know if it was an accident or symbolic of saying no matter how much you break rules in life you can still wind up dead Either way I think it's pretty on theme with the message of the song

I don’t have the faintest idea, the water breaks out of my eyes and my throat is chocking and I have to force myself so strongly to not cry. It was part of the show during the 2018 Seattle production. After it closed and the show transferred to Atlanta in 2019, It's Not A Game returned. They put the song in the album in the memory of the original director, Rachel Rockwell, who adored this song and passed away after the 2018 production closed.

This song was the replacement for It's Not a Game (not including it's Just a Ride) for the 2018 Seattle production. Rachel Rockwell the original director for the show was fond of this song, and sadly passed away after the production in Seattle closed. While It's Not a Game was put back in the show for the 2019 Atlanta production, they decided to put this song on the cast recording in Rockwell's memory.
I think it was the ending song at Seattle, replacing It's Not A Game / It's Just A Ride. Since it was meant as a memorial for Rachel (one of the people behind Ride The Cyclone who passed away during production), it was a temporary addition, possibly as a way of mourning and memorialising her

It's not really a bonus track. It was a replacement for just a ride in one performance after Rachel the director of the show passed away

Rip Rachel 🙏🏻💔
I kept thinking this was for Jacob Richmond’s late sister named Rachel until I realized it was for Rachel Rockwell.
Is this a song that was taken out of the show?
if the last track was anything to go off, yes!
I've seen one(1) video of them performing this watching a slideshow projection, my guess is it may have been in place of It's not a Game?

@@con2553 Thanks for that explanation. That's nice that they would do that for someone in the crew.
What character was supposed to sing this song?
I have a theory it was Ricky who was supposed to sing this but others say this was the original “It’s just a ride” song
