    You forgot the final step of dealing with scam buyers who try to return their broken crap...take some photos of all stages during packing to dissuade scammers.

    Keith, I wanted to thank you so much for sharing the flat rate envelope tip. I buy and sell a lot of pedals and parts through Reverb and eBay and this is gonna save me oodles of money, time, and headaches.

      Hi Chris, I've just switched to using the Reverb mailing system and have saved money that way too. Depends on the size of the package.

    You know as basic as these concepts are people seem not to get or apply them.
    It's really hard to overstate how much good pictures seem to help. Even if you are using your phone if you do front/back/box it makes a MASSIVE difference.

      I also think it's worth pointing out that you don't have to be the lowest price unless you want to get your stuff sold ASAP. If you pick something that reflects market value, it WILL sell.

      Totally agree. I've done photography since I was a little kid (my dad was an art prof) but the video work is new.

    Timely video for me. I'm in the process of down sizing my collection of unused gear. More gear and guitars will not make me a better guitar player, or more to the point I really have reached a point in my life, where I simply can't use all I have accumulated over the years.

    I use Reverb as a price tool - 10% to 15% I learned this at consignment shops everyone wants full retail plus whatever fees they are charged

    Big fan of your work Keith! I’m watching some of your videos for the 2nd or 3rd time. I just had one thought. You should put together a rig rundown video or even better have a dedicated section of your website for your gear. With details and pictures of each piece. I know I wouldn’t be the only one who would be interested in seeing it!

    • @fivewattworld
      @fivewattworld  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve thought about doing this but I’m not sure how it would help people. I recently watched Paul David’s studio tour and was struck by how little stuff he actually had. And he’s at 1.7 million subscribers. It made me think again about how much stuff I have even to run the channel.
      But maybe a reason will come to me one of these days.

      @@fivewattworld I understand your position. Hopefully you find a reason to produce a studio tour video it would be great to see! And if you're feeling generous maybe you can email me some pics of your red Strandberg. I need more than just the screenshots from the videos!

    I came here looking for some kind of "intervention".... I didn't get any "why", but the "how" is good to know.
    Sadly, I figure my stuff will be eventually sold, just by people who have no idea what it is or what it's worth.

    Good information, you and I have similar process. I am thankful I really don’t buy and sell guitars anymore. The shear amount of boxes and cases is overwhelming when you have 30-40 guitars.

      The attic of my garage is full of guitar and bass boxes. I may finally have more boxes than instruments, but I refuse to get rid of the extras (or admit the disparity to my wife (who bugs me to get rid of boxes every week)).

    I have a Blues Driver, a Wah pedal, and an RC30 that are not for sale. Since I aquired a Blues Cube Hot all of that "stuff" is for sale including an Ibanez RG Series guitar. I am trying to sell my GT-8 too which is essentially brand new. I never used it to gig because mostly I played in a Blues band and just used an old Princeton. That amp sold quickly. I have a pair of brand new Crate Power Block amps and much more "stuff."

    Id love to hear your review of the Wangs Mini5 tube head, I picked one up for a bedroom head. I've been pleasantly surprised. I also own a new Supro Rthym Master but at 30 watts I can't turn it past 1. I run the mini5 with a single 12 with a Celestion Anniversary and its a great 5watt rig,

    Dropping a comment on an old video, I know, I know. I recently sold all of my pedals along with the pedalboard itself. Of course, I do plan on buying a Pod Go, sooooo there's that.

    I really don’t want strangers coming to my home to checkout my used gear...these days you don’t know who’s gonna show up at the door...that aside I have no problems selling pedals on line...but I find the hardest items to move are guitars & amps, especially large tube amps...shipping and packing these items really cuts into the profit margin...I have tried using on line apps that sell to your particular zip code (Let Go, etc...) but find that a lot of the gear being sold is mostly student level stuff...not much interest in higher end gear...just a lot of low ball offers...what are your thoughts on this? How do you handle packing and shipping these items? Lastly how do feel about trading in gear at places like Guitar Center? I used them once and it took HOURS to finally get them to agree on a trade in price for a 1968 Fender Bassman head...as always Thank- You for your time Keith...Rick

    • @fivewattworld
      @fivewattworld  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Rick, I actually recently sold an old Korg BX-3 organ to my local music store here in NH. I'd had it for a long time and just wasn't using it but it was massive so I'd never had wanted to ship it. GC told me they were really interested over the phone but when I got there they called their vintage department in CA and in the end they said they'd changed their mind. The local bought it for $400 cash, just what I'd paid for it five or six years prior.
      I've sold four PRS DGT guitars this winter, and since I'd bought them all used, at fair prices, I was able to sell them on Reverb and despite MANY low ballers (you just have to get good at ignoring them), each found a good home and the guys that got them were overjoyed.
      So I'll continue to use Reverb and the local I think. For shipping I've switched to using Reverbs pricing, moving away from USPS standard packaging as the prices have gone up. I find I can now ship a small box with a pedal inside for the price of the old bubble envelopes. The only real upside of USPS is they will GIVE you the packaging for free. Clearly this is included in their pricing.
      Those are my thoughts on where I am currently.
      Best of luck moving your gear. Keith

      Juan Valdez agreed...places like Starbucks have worked for me in the past...our local police station lobby is now open for transactions with an officer stationed at the front desk 24/7 and video surveillance as well...if you’re the buyer they will even check to see if the item you’re about to buy has been stolen...

    You don't sell off your gear! The longer you hang on to it, the more it might be worth something or more than what you are asking. It's a cool project to do when you're in your 70s and no one wants a 70 year old guitar player

    • @fivewattworld
      @fivewattworld  ปีที่แล้ว

      The reality is in most cases guitar values simply keep pace w inflation, no more. Unless, the guitar ends up being used by a famous musician that fans want to emulate. Then it will outstrip typical original values, a la a TS10 tube screamer.
