I think that the idea in reformed theology is that Jesus IS Israel (reduced to one). The idea that I was taught in reformed circles is that when God chose Israel and loved Israel, it was because in Israel (prior to Jesus), He saw his Son. God’s covenant went with Jesus. The Jews who rejected Christ, became apostate. The natural branches were jews who were part of God’s covenant with Abraham and also trusted Jesus. I think that the idea in reformed theology is that Jesus IS Israel (reduced to one). The idea that I was taught in reformed circles is that when God chose Israel and loved Israel, it was because in Israel (prior to Jesus), He saw his Son. God’s covenant went with Jesus. The Jews who rejected Christ, became apostate. The natural branches were jews who were part of God’s covenant with Abraham and also trusted Jesus. The gentiles are unnatural branches who have been in grafted.
