Hi there! I stumbled upon your videos and enjoy watching them. I live in Germany, and also received a phone call from my local boutique out of the blue (last week) saying they had a Birkin for me that kind of fit my wishlist... well of course I went in, super excited, and it was not exactly what I wanted, not in the leather I wanted either, but I took it. All in all, I dreamed for many years to be offered a Birkin, and I am very happy I was able to be offered one, but I do think the hype behind the bag pushed me to want the bag. I hope to grow to love my bag more, and order a MaiTai insert soon! Your Birkin is beautiful!

While I am a big fan of Hermes, I appreciate hearing this honest perspective and experience on using your Birkin. It is a lot of hype and build up. I am so excited that you got a Mai Tai insert. They look so beautiful and I have considered getting one. I just have not seen many reviews and they take awhile to get to the U.S. This one is so pretty!

But I feel like sharing my full thought-process, including the reality-check I faced when I started thinking about how much my desire for the bag was dictated by the hype around it, might help others. The insert is so pretty! I feel like it’s a good middle ground when it comes to the price tag. I just wasn’t able to bring myself to spend 500$ on an insert.
Once the “newness” wears off and you realize that the bag truly doesn’t fulfill anything inside you, you are left feeling empty. Then the bag either goes back in the dust bag or is sold to fashionphile.
I don’t foresee that happening and luckily my Birkin does bring me joy and everytime I look at or carry it :) But I appreciate that what you describe can certainly be a situation some people may find themselves in
I hear what you are saying about the Hermes bag. I wanted another higher priced bag and while waiting, I found a vintage Louis Vuitton that was unique and one I had always loved since my trip to Paris 7 years earlier. I purchased it and have been so happy wearing it and receiving compliments on it, it fits into my wardrobe and lifestyle so well. I then found a good deal on what I thought was my dream bag. I have worn it one time and now I wonder, did I really like it or was I thinking I had to have it because other people said so? Yikes. I do think this is a case of buyers remorse and a lesson to me that I should buy what makes my heart skip a beat and not what I think I am supposed to get. Good Discussion:)

Social media and the hype that is built around certain brands and particular bag styles can have a massive impact on our purchasing decisions. Sometimes it may work out, in other instances we might be left with a bag that we probably wouldn’t have purchased if it hadn’t been for the hype. For me, I’d say it’s luckily not a matter of buyer’s remorse. I’ve worn my Birkin a couple of times and look forward to wearing her more often, now that I have an insert to protect the structure and the inside of the bag. I hope you’ll either grow to love your new bag or maybe it’s the better option to just sell it and take it as a reminder to only purchase bags that you yourself love, regardless of the hype around it (or lack thereof). xx

I understand exactly how you’re feeling (other than actually owning a Birkin, lol). It’s that “thrill of the hunt” thing, & once you’ve gotten what you’ve been wanting for so long, there’s kind of a letdown feeling, like a “well, what’s next??” or “That’s it?”. All perfectly normal! As far as the stickers go, I say take them off! Enjoy using the bag! Of course you don’t want to just sling it around Willy-nilly, but what good is an almost $10k bag if you’re not going to use it? & doesn’t Hermes have a system where you can send in your bag to have it “refreshed” when needed? All the more reason to use that puppy! 😊
Good point :) It’s reassuring to know that Hermès has a spa service, should I at some point down the line feel like my bag needs a refresh. As for the first point, I think you’re onto something. Unless, as soon as you get a bag, you’re immediately like “alright, let the quest for the next bag begin” (and even then, that thrill of the hunt would be not so much tied to the bag you just got, but to the bag you’d be hunting for next), the bag loses the “I want it because it’s hard to get and hyped up”-aspect because…well, you did manage to buy it. If that makes sense😅
I'm with you on being unsure whether the Birkin is all hype for a lot of money - if I pay a lot for a bag (not Birkin money) I really wanted then after I've got it I think did I need it and feel a bit guilty but then I look at it and think sod it - I love it - if it makes me feel good wearing it then its a good purchase! 🤔🤣

I was advised that the bag should be in the dust bag and laid on it's side (similar to how it's in it's box). That helps prevent it slouch further. No issue with leaving the flap in or out or sangles closed or open.
I haven't had that feeling with bags but I have had that feeling with 2 very expensive paints. Sometimes things are just so hyped up that they will never live up to the idea of them you have in your brain.
That’s a good way of putting it! Doesn’t mean we don’t love what we got, just means that we probably built the item up too much in our head that it’s close to impossible for it to live up to what we envisioned it to be :)
I TOTALLY AGREE with you! I started purchasing the Teddy Blake Caty bag. Because it was created long before the “Birkin” was patented by Hermes. And it is also a very quality bag and it Luv them! Great video 🎉
My SA advised that I store my Birkin upright without the organizer inside, as over time it can cause a dent, but I don’t like sagging so instead I choose to store it exactly as it came-in the box with the air packs inside and protector on the flap, all closed up. Also regarding the wavy look, as Deb from Wild Unfiltered pointed out, you can actually leave the flap open and completely close the sangles with the turn lock. There’s still room to reach inside and you maintain a more structured look! 😊

I enjoyed hearing your perspective. I have had to purchase both of my Birkin 30s preloved as for me it’s been impossible to get offered one. For me, they truly do bring me happiness. I love to use them and they bring me more joy than my other bags. I would love a Birkin 35 or Kelly 28. I do understand what you are saying. I would buy that bag from you in a heart beat.

Loved your honesty and perspective on the B35. I actually felt the same way when I got my first birkin which was also in a size 35 and togo leather. I didn't use the bag initially and left it in the box exactly how I had received it from the store, but when I took it out 4 mths later, I noticed that there was a lot of sagging, slouching...almost like the bag was melting. I don't know what I could have done to stop that, but I think that's just how togo leather on big bags age. If you like structured bags, have you considered the kelly sellier? :)

I thought if a $300 bag can bring this much joy, should I ever buy a bag over $1k. Ultimately I decided to continue judging each bag individually. Some super expensive bags will make me happy, and I'm not going to overlook contemporary designers. I'd like to have a kelly one day, but we'll see 😄 I think you should absolutely remove the sticker unless you plan to sell it within the next year. I've seen the damage that stickers can do on hardware, and you definitely don't want that ❤

my SA informed me of what an Artisan told her at the podium - you should store the bag in its dustbag and in a horizontal position, if possible in the box It Came with as that box has a little pillow made for the bag but dont close the box leave it open so the bag can breathe
Thanks is for making this video, tbh I sometimes wonder if I am vehemently against it because it’s so loved or because I’m really not fussed by it. I think it’s both and it’s comforting to hear that you have one and feel indifferent about it. If you could just buy off the shelf you wouldn’t feel as bad for saying ‘it’s another bag’ and you shouldn’t feel bad. It’s just how you feel and it’s honest and refreshing 😊

You gotta be real with yourself… you are making total sense. There’s several bags that look way too impractical for me to even consider buying. I like classy and usable bags. And higher priced ones must be timeless colors too.
This is very helpful and I appreciate the authenticity! Yes yes yes! Now I’m never going to have the cash to be a Hermes girl, but I feel this way even with my low range luxury bags. Sometimes the carefree nature on a quick rainy day of something like a lightweight nylon bag or a good quality throw and go tote, makes me question WHY am I so pressed to get more luxury bags. If I’m honest they are my least used and least enjoyed because I don’t want to mess it up!

One question ! I don’t know if it’s the camera or not, but I see the leather a bit dry, there’s not shine to the leather at all , is it like that in real life or is it the lighting ? .. can you do a in depth review of the bag .. i don’t mean talking about the bag but showing the bag closed up , the stitching, the measurements, etc ! … I have seem so many other Togo leather on etoupe, contrast stitching in size 35 that have different shape on the part of the handles that is attached to the bag ( the little part kind of diamond shape) and more stitches where the handle attaches to the bag .. some shapes are longer and don’t look like diamond shape and some have more stitches!! .. I wonder if Hermes changes the shape of the handle where attaches to the bag and if the number of stitches too !
I‘d say the footage is fairly accurate. Togo is a fairly matte leather, especially when the bag is still new. Honestly, I would be quite surprised if elements of the Birkin varied that noticeably, especially when it comes to their shape... Did you look at vintage bags? Generally, I’d be happy to film an in depth video of my Birkin. I would still have to make up my mind about how close-up I want to get with the footage. Don’t want to give counterfeiters close-up videos in 4k of what an authentic Birkin looks like ;)
Yes I’ve been looking for a really long time but I can’t bring myself to buy one preloved because even on reputable consignment stores I’ve seen some variations in the stitching and shapes, not mentioning the hikes on price ( almost double the original price).. someTogos seems to have shine to the leather, specially vintage ! .. your bag it’s absolutely beautiful!
I totally get that. One would hope that consignment shops and preloved retailers do their best in checking and ensuring authenticity but you never know…
I have exactly the same insert for my K28. It is very well made, and qualitative, and so I'm happy with the purchasing process. It looks great with Etoupe too ;)

Your bag is gorgeous and the insert looks perfect! I would hope that you would remove the stickers and use the bag for decades to come. It’s really cool that you got it brand new for retail from the boutique. This bag will last you a lifetime and any marks and wear will reflect it’s history with you. I think there’s often times a feeling of let down or buyer’s remorse especially when purchasing extremely expensive items. Try to enjoy your bag and not overthink it. On the other hand, if you do regret it and it’s not the bag for you, you will easily be able to sell it. Thanks for your honesty. I appreciate it.

Hi, thank you for being honest and open. I kind of know the deling, I got my birkin last september. Ive wanted it since 12-15 years, so getting that bag from the store was the biggest dream come true. Ive thought the same as you…is it that special.. but come to the conclusion that yes it really is that special evne though it gets like…normal. Its just like Amy other bag but still I must remind me of how really special it is. Because it really is (in myopinion evne if its just a bag) If I Said no I World have gone my whole life thinking about that bag and what it would have been like to own it and so on… so making me remind me of that , then yes it really is that special. ❤😍

I agree, if I had turned down the offer, I would have second-guessed my decision forever, plus the chances of another quota bag offer in the future are so slight. Maybe its me but the stitching at the top of the bag between the handle and the edge looks off, like they ran out of thread and started again with the stitching…. I have never been a Birkin lover, it has always seemed so over hyped, but I am always happy when someone that loves the bag is able to get one. I am more of a shoulder bag, preferably with a top handle kind of girl so maybe that has a lot to do with it. I know Hermès doesn’t approve of customers selling their quota bags, but…. If your heart doesn’t come around and you don’t absolutely adore it, well you know you have options. I love your honesty, we need more honest youtubers here. 🥰

Artisans now make these bags custom for less than 1k..You can put whatever name you want on the bag and choose whatever color and hardware..Same quality..sometimes even better..the Birkin bag is wayyy overpriced and overhyped ..no one wants to say it because then it admits to self that you paid too much and the deck of cards comes crumbling down..your honesty is admired..it’s not just you..many others think the same which is why they sell.
I’m sure there are a lot of people that are left feeling similar to me once they finally get a quota bag. No question about it, the quality is excellent but other brands and individual artisans can come close. I’m not planning on selling my Birkin. I adore it, just not as much as I had expected😅
Der Hype um die Birkin und die Exklusivität tragen natürlich größtenteils dazu bei, dass man den Preis akzeptiert und sie haben will… Würde nicht Hermès draufstehen, würde niemand so viel Geld dafür zahlen. Man bekommt ja auch schon gute Ledertaschen für einen Bruchteil des Preises. Aber so ist es bei Cartier, Chanel, LV und co auch. Ich wollte immer eine Birkin oder Kelly, bin mir aber inzwischen nicht mehr so sicher ob ich das wirklich noch will. Mich nervt dieses Getue von Hermès ehrlich gesagt auch etwas. Man kann in Düsseldorf nicht mal so einen Taschenwunsch Termin ausmachen, nein man muss erst eine Mail schreiben und dann kriegt man wenn man Glück hat einen Termin angeboten. Selbst Chanel stellt sich nicht so an. Sorry aber da kann ich mein Geld auch anderswo investieren und werde es wahrscheinlich auch machen. Trotzdem ist deine Birkin eine sehr schöne Tasche, an der du auch lange Freude haben wirst!
Kann deine Einstellung total verstehen. In Hamburg hatte ich mit dem Prozess, wie ich an die Tasche gekommen bin, wohl Glück. Wenn die sich so angestellt hätten wie Düsseldorf, hätte ich es vermutlich auch bleiben lassen. Ich freue mich nach wie vor total über meine Birkin, aber am Ende des Tages ist es „nur“ eine Tasche 😌 Der Hype trägt einen Großteil dazu bei, dass es in den Augen so vieler DIE Traum-Tasche ist…
There's a UK company that does clear sticker type film over hardware. Sorry that i can't remember the name. It should start with "H". They also have leather cleaners and conditioner. Their brand is pink in colour. Hopefully someone can chime in to that

Loved your honesty and perspective on the B35. I actually felt the same way when I got my first birkin which was also in a size 35 and togo leather. I didn't use the bag initially and left it in the box exactly how I had received it from the store, but when I took it out 4 mths later, I noticed that there was a lot of sagging, slouching...almost like the bag was melting. I don't know what I could have done to stop that, but I think that's just how togo leather on big bags age. If you like structured bags, have you considered the kelly sellier? :)
Thank you for sharing🤗 I’m sorry you had that experience with the leather sagging. A sellier Birkin would have been a dream but I also wouldn‘t have said no to a Kelly in sellier. Maybe one day… But I’m not in a rush. There are a lot of other bags that excite me more than Bs and Ks 😅🤫

I thought if a $300 bag can bring this much joy, should I ever buy a bag over $1k. Ultimately I decided to continue judging each bag individually. Some super expensive bags will make me happy, and I'm not going to overlook contemporary designers. I'd like to have a kelly one day, but we'll see 😄
I think you should absolutely remove the sticker unless you plan to sell it within the next year. I've seen the damage that stickers can do on hardware, and you definitely don't want that ❤

And thank you. No intention of selling so I’d better be getting those stickers off… I think I removed some but no all yet
my SA informed me of what an Artisan told her at the podium - you should store the bag in its dustbag and in a horizontal position, if possible in the box It Came with as that box has a little pillow made for the bag but dont close the box leave it open so the bag can breathe

Thanks is for making this video, tbh I sometimes wonder if I am vehemently against it because it’s so loved or because I’m really not fussed by it. I think it’s both and it’s comforting to hear that you have one and feel indifferent about it. If you could just buy off the shelf you wouldn’t feel as bad for saying ‘it’s another bag’ and you shouldn’t feel bad. It’s just how you feel and it’s honest and refreshing 😊

You gotta be real with yourself… you are making total sense. There’s several bags that look way too impractical for me to even consider buying. I like classy and usable bags. And higher priced ones must be timeless colors too.
I totally get that! If you spend a crazy amount on a handbag, it’s easier to justify when you go for a neutral timeless color :)
This is very helpful and I appreciate the authenticity! Yes yes yes! Now I’m never going to have the cash to be a Hermes girl, but I feel this way even with my low range luxury bags. Sometimes the carefree nature on a quick rainy day of something like a lightweight nylon bag or a good quality throw and go tote, makes me question WHY am I so pressed to get more luxury bags. One question ! I don’t know if it’s the camera or not, but I see the leather a bit dry, there’s not shine to the leather at all , is it like that in real life or is it the lighting ? .. can you do a in depth review of the bag .. i don’t mean talking about the bag but showing the bag closed up , the stitching, the measurements, etc ! … I have seem so many other Togo leather on etoupe, contrast stitching in size 35 that have different shape on the part of the handles that is attached to the bag ( the little part kind of diamond shape) and more stitches where the handle attaches to the bag .. some shapes are longer and don’t look like diamond shape and some have more stitches!! .. I wonder if Hermes changes the shape of the handle where attaches to the bag and if the number of stitches too !
I‘d say the footage is fairly accurate. Togo is a fairly matte leather, especially when the bag is still new. Honestly, I would be quite surprised if elements of the Birkin varied that noticeably, especially when it comes to their shape... Did you look at vintage bags? Generally, I’d be happy to film an in depth video of my Birkin. I would still have to make up my mind about how close-up I want to get with the footage. Don’t want to give counterfeiters close-up videos in 4k of what an authentic Birkin looks like ;)
Yes I’ve been looking for a really long time but I can’t bring myself to buy one preloved because even on reputable consignment stores I’ve seen some variations in the stitching and shapes, not mentioning the hikes on price ( almost double the original price).. someTogos seems to have shine to the leather, specially vintage ! .. your bag it’s absolutely beautiful!
I totally get that. One would hope that consignment shops and preloved retailers do their best in checking and ensuring authenticity but you never know…
I heard about that stickers and their glue can quickly tarnish the hardware, but I haven‘t experienced it on a bag yet 😅

Your bag is gorgeous and the insert looks perfect! I would hope that you would remove the stickers and use the bag for decades to come. It’s really cool that you got it brand new for retail from the boutique.
This bag will last you a lifetime and any marks and wear will reflect it’s history with you.
I think there’s often times a feeling of let down or buyer’s remorse especially when purchasing extremely expensive items. Try to enjoy your bag and not overthink it. On the other hand, if you do regret it and it’s not the bag for you, you will easily be able to sell it.

Hi, thank you for being honest and open. I kind of know the deling, I got my birkin last september. Ive wanted it since 12-15 years, so getting that bag from the store was the biggest dream come true. Ive thought the same as you…is it that special.. but come to the conclusion that yes it really is that special evne though it gets like…normal. Its just like Amy other bag but still I must remind me of how really special it is. Because it really is (in myopinion evne if its just a bag) If I Said no I World have gone my whole life thinking about that bag and what it would have been like to own it and so on… so making me remind me of that , then yes it really is that special. ❤😍

Maybe its me but the stitching at the top of the bag between the handle and the edge looks off, like they ran out of thread and started again with the stitching…. I have never been a Birkin lover, it has always seemed so over hyped, but I am always happy when someone that loves the bag is able to get one. I am more of a shoulder bag, preferably with a top handle kind of girl so maybe that has a lot to do with it. I know Hermès doesn’t approve of customers selling their quota bags, but…. If your heart doesn’t come around and you don’t absolutely adore it, well you know you have options. I love your honesty, we need more honest youtubers here. 🥰

Artisans now make these bags custom for less than 1k..You can put whatever name you want on the bag and choose whatever color and hardware..Same quality..sometimes even better..the Birkin bag is wayyy overpriced and overhyped ..no one wants to say it because then it admits to self that you paid too much and the deck of cards comes crumbling down..your honesty is admired..it’s not just you..many others think the same which is why they sell.
I’m sure there are a lot of people that are left feeling similar to me once they finally get a quota bag. No question about it, the quality is excellent but other brands and individual artisans can come close. I’m not planning on selling my Birkin. I adore it, just not as much as I had expected😅
If I’m spending $10k on a bag, it had better be perfect or it’s getting sent back!

Der Hype um die Birkin und die Exklusivität tragen natürlich größtenteils dazu bei, dass man den Preis akzeptiert und sie haben will… Würde nicht Hermès draufstehen, würde niemand so viel Geld dafür zahlen. Man bekommt ja auch schon gute Ledertaschen für einen Bruchteil des Preises. Aber so ist es bei Cartier, Chanel, LV und co auch. Ich wollte immer eine Birkin oder Kelly, bin mir aber inzwischen nicht mehr so sicher ob ich das wirklich noch will. Mich nervt dieses Getue von Hermès ehrlich gesagt auch etwas. Man kann in Düsseldorf nicht mal so einen Taschenwunsch Termin ausmachen, nein man muss erst eine Mail schreiben und dann kriegt man wenn man Glück hat einen Termin angeboten. Selbst Chanel stellt sich nicht so an. Sorry aber da kann ich mein Geld auch anderswo investieren und werde es wahrscheinlich auch machen. Trotzdem ist deine Birkin eine sehr schöne Tasche, an der du auch lange Freude haben wirst!
Kann deine Einstellung total verstehen. In Hamburg hatte ich mit dem Prozess, wie ich an die Tasche gekommen bin, wohl Glück. Wenn die sich so angestellt hätten wie Düsseldorf, hätte ich es vermutlich auch bleiben lassen. Ich freue mich nach wie vor total über meine Birkin, aber am Ende des Tages ist es „nur“ eine Tasche 😌 Der Hype trägt einen Großteil dazu bei, dass es in den Augen so vieler DIE Traum-Tasche ist…
There's a UK company that does clear sticker type film over hardware. Sorry that i can't remember the name. It should start with "H". They also have leather cleaners and conditioner. Their brand is pink in colour. Hopefully someone can chime in to that
