Can you expand on the weather, particularly compared to San Diego and time of year?
I lived in SoCal all my life and it can be very different depending on exactly where you live because of all the microclimates here.
I live in Ventura, which is almost exactly like SD weather wise, very mild winters/summers with low humidity even when the cities 35 miles over are +- 20 degrees
Both times I have visited Pensacola, I got lucky and the weather was nice with low humidity so it's hard to judge.
Pensacola is on my short list of places to move to and I'm going to be visiting this November again to try and make a decision.

Hi Mario, thanks for watching. I lived in San Diego for years as well. In my opinion the weather is pretty similar except it gets a little more humid here. It doesn't get too cold for too long and too hot for too long.

From about April 1st to October 1st you can expect 85-90F and 75% or over humidity. It's truly dreadful unless you're heading to the beach. Most of the time you're sweating just by stepping outside because of the humidity. That said, it's wonderful for beach days, there's plenty of wonderful nature areas, and downtown is great.

The weather in Pcola is nothing like the weather in San Diego. In the summer you sweat at midnight if you step out for 2 minutes. The humidity even makes our mild winter seem much colder because it seeps thru your clothes right to your bones .

Americans are superb at taking beautiful, unspoiled places and over-publicizing them which in turn brings more and more people thereby spoiling the reason the place was great in the first place. Pensacola is one such place. I cringe every time I see one of those "10 Best!" articles that has Pensacola on it. Do we have to turn this place into Ft. Lauderdale?
Oh, and while I'm at it, why does the host of this video claim in the text above to be a "life-long resident" but in the video he says he's lived in Phoenix and San Diego? If you've lived anywhere else in the country, you're not a life-long resident of where you were born (if indeed he was eve born here).
Proponents of Pensacola often focus solely on the many good points of the city while downplaying the very real negative aspects. Our homeless problem gets worse every month. Traffic is horrible - a teenage computer geek could program the traffic lights better than whichever nitwit is responsible now. Speaking of traffic, it's bad all around town - Davis Highway, Nine Mile Road(!), Michigan, Fairfield...the list goes on. It's like friggin' Manhattan here - inexplicably!
Pensacola...yeah, beautiful city...great place to live...unless you want to drive out to the beach on the weekend. So let's publicize the area and make *more* people want to move here! Good plan.

We loved Pensacola. Biggest Con for us though were the wages. Companies tend to not pay very well thus you have a lot of neighborhoods which need a lot of tlc. I have lived all over the country and I would say that issue is fairly common for beach cities. My wife and I only moved in order to find higher paying jobs. I agree with the location. Only 10 hours to Dallas or Houston, 12 to San Antonio, 5 to Jacksonville, 5 to Atlanta, and about 6.5 to Nashville. Another con though is that traveling by air from Pensacola tends to be a bit pricey.

If you don’t enjoy alcohol then Pensacola doesn’t offer much else. Pensacola Beach sucks (I have lived all over the world) Orange Beach /Destin is much better. There is NO diversity of people or tastes. There is NO viable nightlife other than a few places downtown. The logistical layout of the city is horrible, you can’t get anywhere fast. This is truck/beer/boat/old money/retirement/slow living country. It’s way more Alabama than Florida. Best things are warm weather, lack of random crime, seafood, and pretentious. You can roll right out of bed and wear whatever you had on, and fit right in. Put on something nice and expect weird looks.

Here's some truth about Pensacola from someone who has lived here most of their life:
•If you're not already wealthy or a member of one of the elite families that run Pensacola don't move here, you won't be able to find work that pays much more than minimum wage out the gate. •Pensacola has the worst surfers in the world because we have some of the worst surf possible.
•Downtown might be a decent size but there's literally nothing to do downtown, it's nothing like downtown in a real city. Downtown Pensacola literally consists of like 3 bars, 6 restaurants (including Subway).
•Gallery night is nothing, they block a small section of a street and sell over-priced street beers
•The bridge was already destroyed a couple months after it opened, our economy is currently suffering big time because the bridge is out, Gulf Breeze is turning into a ghost town when that's where all the money is around here.
•We don't have a lot of festivals, we have like two, the crawfish festival and seafood festival and the entirety of those festivals is paying 12-20 bucks for entry into said festival and the ability to spend even more money on over priced soggy hushpuppies.
•There's zero culture in this town, we have one performing arts theater. We have four kinds of restaurants: overpriced seafood (why is Gulf caught seafood SOOOO expensive when you're literally eating on the Gulf?), garbage Mexican restaurants, fast food and actual good restaurants that the community won't support so they go under in a year.
•Don't move here. He's really making it sound SO much better than it actually is.
Pensacola is honestly a terrible place to live, has been my entire life.
•Be careful, a lot of people move here and get stuck never to leave again. This place is an economic black hole. You'll find a decent place live, sure it's overpriced for what you're getting but you're just happy to have found a spot. Your job has no room for growth because everyone who makes any real money at the company you work for has an under qualified nephew who needs a job. Now you're stuck making 12 bucks an hour for a job you're wildly over qualified for while your rent gets steadily raised if you live anywhere affordable until you barely make enough to survive, no hope of ever saving up any money to move to a real city.
•If you're one of those types of people who has to make money to survive this is a terrible town for you. If you're already wealthy (like...really wealthy) and want to live near a pretty beach...there are much better options.
I'm sure you represented your experience in Pensacola (clear to any locals you embellished pretty hard for the video) but if you come from a working class family this will not be your experience.
Just wanted to add some honest balance for anyone watching this video.

Moved to Pensacola 15 yrs ago. I have a BBA in Marketing and minor in Geography and French.
Jobs here, you must know someone to get a good paying job.
I am still seen as an outside. NFCU hired me at $13/hr with exceeds expectations on their Performance reports. Worked there 4 yrs until I was placed in a satellite location and get sick - alot of building have mould here and I have COPD. The building has been condemned but was still used. Had to leave on a work injury - mould cause alot of illness.
Got some hotel jobs. Offered Asst Gen Mgr of a chain hotel - $9.50/hr.
    Other chains working overnight $10/hr.
In 15 yrs in Pensacola, I have 4 yrs of medical coverage - jobs here don't offer (forget any paid holidays), I average about $18k/yr full time.
Crime - I lived in Warrington and eventually sold my home as the crime was out of control during Sheriff Morgan's tenure. Had county commissioner at my home to discuss drug dealing, prostitution, theft, and general trash allowed. He said they way county is set up, sheriff isn't responsible back to commissioners. Sheriff found it easier and profitable to go after tourist at the beach vs the actual crime hot spots.
Before you move here, look at the shift in population FROM Escambia County (Pensacola) to other counties. Everyone moving to Santa Rosa.
Pensacola newest problem is the homeless camps on Cervantes, Davis Hwy, Mobile Hwy, W St, Jackson St - these are real street with trash from camps and people sleeping on sidewalks.
I will soon be moving from this area. Yes Pensacola is in Florida but called 'Lower Alabama'. Last ai heard, Escambia County is the poorest county in FL and had the highest STD rate. You have a decent chance at getting shot at a random drive by.
Also Pensacola has US 3rd worst Superfund EPA site that no one is talking about - 3910 N Palafox St.

A con is that the city builds and builds new developments without building the necessary infrastructure to deal with the increased capacity. Plus, developers are out of touch with how much $ people make here like someone said below wages are lower. Wages haven't risen with cost of living. People who make modest incomes are being pushed out in favor of new ugly eye sore developments. We are letting them ruin our neighborhoods by building on every open surface they can and killing the ecology. They said the hurricane damage was worse due to all of the development because those kinds of yards do nothing to stop flood water. It's a mess. I love it here because its historic and it's beautiful. So calm. Great live music community.

Conveniently forgot to mention Pensacola has some of the highest crime rates in the entire state, the job wages suck, and the cost of living just keeps going up (but not the wages). This is where old ppl retire or middle income families relocate on military orders or with whatever company they work for. If you're not middle class forget it, otherwise you'll either live in one of the MANY gang-infested ghettos or live in a car

Born in Tucson, AZ, most of my life and currently in Phoenix. Also lived in San Diego from 95 to 2005 or 10 years. Had a beach house rental in Corpus Christi Texas and made the biggest RE mistake by selling it after 8 yrs. Now that I’m 50, I should’ve kept that rental, it would’ve been paid off but it is what it is…. Have about $150K equity here in PHX …. Selling 150k homes for 400k in 2 years time it’s ridiculous. I hope the housing crashes and I’ll buy its criminal what they are doing with prices.

Sorry if this was posted in one of the previous 800 comments but the elephant in the room for me is the homeowner insurance. One must factor in the higher premium that would otherwise pay for a home with $100k more value. In the event of a hurricane, I have read reports that the storm surge flooding is not covered but is what is generally responsible for most of the damage. Is that true? Somebody please correct me on this if untrue. We love Florida and plan to visit Pensacola but personally consider the insurance issue a relevant “con” while on the topic of real estate.

Lived here for 6 months on navy base, will be moving back in 4 years. This place is gorgeous. It’s everything you want, big city, small city, good bars (badlands #1), New Orleans and Biloxi were awesome. Does have some military a holes but take that over a ghetto city. West of P’cola can be somewhat scary but honestly enjoyed every second of this florida city.

Don't forget about the toll roads .... those can be costly and will shock you if you don't know about them ahead of time. -- Traffic everyone always mentions traffic, come live up here in B'ham the traffic is crazy stupid .... from Florida line up to B'ham the accidents are just crazy, I guess it's because it's a one way in and one way out of Florida so all the traffic flows right on through .... with a lot of bumps .... All the times I have been down there the traffic to me was never an issue at all...maybe I am just used to it......"Shrugs"

    • @LivinginPensacolaFlorida
