My mom passed away in September, this Mothers day i will celebrate her.. she was the best. everyday i mention her in someway especially what she taught me... i have two sons who adored her and they tell me everyday that i do something the same way she did.. i cant ask for a better compliment. Celebrate your mother and embrase her, if she is here or not

My Mom passed away last April. She had cancer. So Mother's Day is a bit tough for me. We had such an amazing relationship and I definitely learned a lot from her. I have a 2 year old daughter so I want to make sure to teach her what my Mom taught me. One of my favorite things she taught me is to celebrate the little things. Growing up we would have random parties like an "end of school year" party. It taught me that we can find joy in a lot of things in life. There are so many things I learned from her indirectly, just watching her as I grew up and I am so thankful for that. She was a great role model. Thank you for this video! It is so sweet to see the appreciation as a mother. ❤️

My mom taught me the importance of adaptability, and patience. She's a hard working mother of five. Me and my siblings all had special needs. After my parents separated, she had help from my aunt and grandma until 2010 when my grandma passed away. Fortunately, she remarried to her old college sweetheart, Dan. He's the best friend I have ever had.

My mom taught me that no matter who we are, what we have done, what job we have, or what our status is, we should always treat each other fairly and respectfully. Treat others as we would want them to treat us. Also, be strong and thankful for what we have everyday because the tables could turn any day.

My mom taught me that we all are different, and so we all are valuable, important and perfect. She taught me to love myself and to love other people, even though they were not nice persons to be around with. She taught me to always forgive the people whom have wronged you in some way, even if they weren't there to do so. She learned me to always keep learning, keep developing and be aware of everything you do and choose to do; this is one big thing in my personal life; because thanks to that I've discovered and solved so many fears and quirks I had where I was just not happy with. And last but not least; she learned me to be non-judgemental (sometimes I still am, sadly). This meant that I always had to know both sides of the story, to know the fundamental part of the thing I had to judge at some kind. This made me a friend (and daughter/sister) who was always capable to solve problems between two (or more) people.

My mom is the most incredible person I have known. Things I have learned from her:
    1) Speak out. My mom is a fighter, a feminist, and a high school teacher. She has made it her mission to inform herself on issues and to educate those around her.
    2) We may not have a lot, but we have each other, and that is all we need.
    3) Take your mental health seriously, and seek care and treatment.
    4) We can’t change other people, we can only accept their terms and create healthy boundaries accordingly
    5) Dogs make everything better. 😁

my mom is also from thailand (who is like 1/4 of chinese)!! she moved here with my dad 26 years ago to raise me here in america. she left behind her family and everything she knew and adapted to a whole new life and language and environment. she's easily the strongest woman i will ever know and my hero forever.
it's so endearing to see another mom&daughter like me and my mom since i never see anything like our family on tv or in the media. brought a proud lil tear to my eye. thank you so much for sharing y'alls story!!

Aww! This was awesome, Ingrid, and I loved all of the pics of you and your mom. ❤️ Growing up, I always saw my mom work hard to provide for us. She definitely instilled a strong work ethic in me. She is a strong woman, and that is one of the biggest lessons she taught me- to work hard and do the best you can do. She is also very opinionated, and, I too, know what I believe in and stand strong for my values. She is half Japanese. She was teased growing up, and at times, I was too. We lived in the South, and we stood out from the other people around us. However, we learned that being different is beautiful and something to be proud of. 😊

Your relationship with your mom is a beautiful thing to see and I strive to have an equally beautiful adult relationship with my kids when we have reached that point in our lives (5 and 2 years old). My relationship with my mother is nonexistent because of her untreated mental illness and substance abuse but she has taught me a variety of things: mental health treatment is not shameful and should be discussed openly, it is incredibly important to plan for your financial future so you aren't reliant on the gratuity of others, and the importance of setting boundaries.

My mom suffers from mental illness and has for a long time, I used to resent her because of how it made her treat us, my siblings and I. But now, I see her life and how she struggles and is limited by it and on good days I empathize, but on bad days I still find it difficult to handle. It's a strange experience having to grow up extremely early, and not being able to relate to others when they tell you about how great their mothers' are to them. That was hard. But this mother's day she's in the hospital and all I can do is give her some comfort in this time. I love her no matter what, and that in itself is difficult for me to admit.
Thank you for sharing so that I could understand just a bit more.

My mom is duel disabled, being both blind and deaf. She also went through numerous open heart and kidney surgeries during my childhood. On top of all of this, she raised my two sisters and myself alone. Despite all that was against her, her motto was always “the only disability in life is a bad attitude.” With her help, my older sister and myself graduated college, making us the first in our entire extended family to do so. She also went on to get her associates with my older sister, following her to every class because my sister didn’t think she could do it. My mom is an incredible, unstoppable, and has been the inspiration for my career and life choices beyond that.

Hi Ingrid, you have always been a great role model for me since I was in high school (I am about to graduate university now) and I just want to thank you for sharing all your personal stories about your mom this week. It made me think a lot about mine. Even though we clash often but I realized she taught me a lot of life lessons that I wouldn't have known myself otherwise. By that I mean the value of hard work, and how you can pretty much achieve anything you as long as you are willing to work hard. It would be easy to give up and say 'I can't', but my mom taught me that I can as long as I put in the work and my mind to it.

My mother shows me everyday that it is never too late to try new things and, basically, live the life you always wanted to... To me it's admirable that my mom started taking ballet lessons when she was almost 50 because it was her wish to dance since she was a child! This is just one exemple out of many :)

In addition to being my mom, my mom has been my best friend for most of my life. She has always supported me, loved me, encouraged and challenged me to keep growing. My mom has taught me so much about selflessness. She has always had a job, but shifted from full-time to part-time when I started elementary school to make sure my brother and I had someone who could always be there. And she always was. She was my Girl Scout leader for 13 years, in addition to supporting our Service Unit, running events, and for several summers, attending camp with me to volunteer. She taught me about perseverance and dedication through how much she always gave to others, whether me and my brother or to all the people who have the privilege of knowing and working with her. Both of my parents taught me the value of learning; I learned recently they told our family members that they could only give us one toy as a present but as many books as they wanted to buy. They always wanted to have as much available to us as possible.
I like what you said, Ingrid, about constant growth and evolution. I have seen that so much in my mom since going to college. I was lucky enough to go to college out of state, so I was away from my family for months at a time. In our time apart, we have both been working so hard to grow and learn more as people. I have only been able to see how much she has grown recently, as she becomes more aware about social issues and feminism especially after I came out a few years ago. She still has room to grow, and so do I. I am endlessly proud that she is actively trying and realizes her privilege and thus puts in the work to learn.

My mom passed away this March. I'm not saying it didn't affect me because I still miss her all the time. I miss her more when I think of the little things rather than the big things. But because she was so sick and the quality of life was no longer there, I am happy that she is not in any pain or any kind of suffering anymore. That being said, my mom taught me to always strive to be positive when bad situations. My parents in general were always my best friends and I am thankful that they BOTH taught me to be friends to your kids. As much as a lot of people say to not do that, they chose to do that and I could tell them ANYTHING. They wanted me to make my own choices when it came to drinking, smoking, drugs, sex and I did and they were good choices. I think if I had that strict parenting, my choices would have been bad choices. I was allowed to decide what was right or wrong. She taught me to be compassionate and don't be afraid to be yourself and follow your own path and not everyone elses.

I learned from my mom to be strong and not let anything let you down, and she learned that from her mother. My mom has been through a loooot, she got divorced, she was a single mother of two for a few years, I'm from a small town in Mexico so a lot of people judge her for that... I think the most important thing that she taught me was to love my dad unconditionally, she loved her father so much. And at the end, my mom and my dad decided to give each other another chance, besides being divorce for almost 12 years and now she is happy, and I'm glad she is... she deserves it.

You talking about how your mom set her own path reminded me of this quote: "It’s not your job to live someone else’s dream. You don’t have to move to Asia to teach English if it’s not going to make you happy. You don’t have to move to a big city and get a mind-numbing office job because it’s going to impress your parents. The choices you make now set the tone for the choices you’re going to make the rest of your life. So you’re allowed to make the choices you want to make - and only worry about impressing your future self"
