  • Fico Filacciano has been inground since 1996; from Central Italy, Abruzzo, where people are known to be "forte e gentile", this tree produces two crops, "Fioroni" = flowers, and "Forniti" = supplied. Just like the people in Abruzzo this tree is also strong and gentle.

Hello Sir, How did you make over-all with your Breba and main crop??? Did all the main crop ripen for you??? Not sure if the rain and cold weather here in Mass had something to do with it, but my in-ground Mt. Etnas, put out many figs and stopped abruptly in mid sept. Perhaps fluctuations in the weather perhaps! Best Wishes!

Does Mt. Etnas have 2 crops? Are you a member of Mass Figs on Facebook? The brebas were great - ripe and tasty - about 80, the 2nd crop not as good as usual but still about 140, and some still ripening, many of which were not completely ripe, so I broiled them with brown sugar and served over vanilla ice cream. The Chicago Hardy were great but that is an easy variety to grow.

@@oldworldmeetsnewworldwitha4749 Usually Mt. Etna's do have some breba but depending on the variety, some more than others. I've heard there are over 100 varieties of Mt. Etna fig trees but I believe they came from one strain that was brought from the Mt. Etna location in Italy and spread through-out Europe and Northern Africa by the romans. As they grew in these new countries they adapted and changed certain characteristics depending on where they were some in colder mountain regions others in arid hot climates like middle-east and northern Africa.
