Nice to see both of you guys together, a true subscriber of both of you
I concur!
Same. Two of my favorite fisherman on TH-cam.
I said the same this is legendary
@@frankzima7998😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I've been waiting for this collab video for forever!! It's everything I expected it to be, awesome work guys
Nice to see how you highlight fishing on Long Islands East End
You and Elias make fishing look so easy! 🎉
Love to see my 2 favorite northeast anglers together fishing.. 👊🏾🤙🏾
Just ordered an oldtown 120 pdl and looking forward to fishing for fluke on moriches bay as well as shinny. I had a 21’ center console for years but now kayaking exclusively .
More knowledge here with you two than probably the rest of TH-cam fishing combined....
I am a long time subscriber to both channels and enjoy the content very much. I have learned a lot from both. Keep up the great work guys!
2 of the best!!! Love to see it!!!
2 of my favorite channels!!!!! You guys are awesome. Love it
My two favorite TH-cam fishermen together, finally!!! ❤️
"I will let you..." by the officer at the end is a perfect example of the ego power trip of law enforcement officers. You will let me, really? Oh geez, thanks for "letting me" load my kayak after I VIOLATED NO LAWS. By saying "I will let you..." the officer is trying to enforce dominance when it's clearly not needed. He should have said, "You are good. Thank you. Have a nice day." It's a subtle nuance, which if corrected, could improve interactions with the public.
Always keep them cameras running!
I didn’t see any abuse of power, he was just doing a routine check for proper fishing licenses and any illegal fish ( undersized ). If you did nothing illegal then your ok. Conservation Police are just there to make sure future generations will be able to enjoy the same thing that we enjoy doing today.
@@user-ri8ir5zb1c I didn't say there was abuse of power. You are right, he was just doing his job. What I did I point out is controlling language that expresses dominance, which was not called for in this case. How would you feel if out of the blue someone said to you, "I will let you wash my car, and then I will let you mow my grass, and finally I will let you take my trash to the curb". Those are examples of trying to express dominance and control. In this instance, "I will let you...load your kayak", is a mindset too many law enforcement officers (LEOs) have with John Q Public. Look it up right here on TH-cam and in almost every instance you will witness the LEO's ego gets in the way of them doing the right and lawful thing. In this instance, the LEO felt like he had to control the interaction even though no law was broken and the interaction was going so well. A simple, thank you and have a nice day would have been great. If that officer had said that to me, I would have first asked if our interaction was complete and then I would have said, actually, I will LET YOU stop bothering me and I will LET YOU leave. Rude? Maybe. I just hope somewhere along the way this LEO realizes how words matter and how people might choose to react to those words. To close, I will LET YOU respond again to my comments! How does that make you feel? Get it yet? Don't be a sheep.
Heck.... Think im going to head out this Saturday and do some flounder fishing. This video talked me into it. Love the drone footage.
John this is the first time you gave your exact location and I am LOVING it… please do that every video!
Ive been searched more times than I can count on my kayak, especially when out on the water. VA game wardens love to come flying up on you at mach 5 when youre in a kayak. Only once in my boat with my kids and it was while I was trying to repair my motor covered in gas and oil...
Interesting how productive the teaser was in this video. I rarely use one as i feel it's just another hook to get lodged in me when they are flopping around. 🤔
Try a 1/4 oz. Johnson Sprite and go with the drift...it works great at San Luis Pass in Texas during Southern Flounder season...
Elias has a lot of jigging knowledge. Follow him regularly.
And he's a good guy.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing No doubt about it!
That was the smallest blow fish I've ever seen and I must have caught thousands when I was growing up on the South Shore. I hope they continue to come back, they're great fun for all ages and I think they must have been engineered with that 'impale yourself on a hook' gene. Thanks for posting, miss all of those places.
I thought you guys knew each other from years ago when Elias lived in NY??? I've been watching you both for a decade. That's crazy. Jesus. Where does time go?!
They do check the fish a lot there but, they’re very nice and professional. One of the DEC officer told me i can take a picture of my license. Now i keep it in my photos under favorites
Looking great John. It was a thrill to meet to in Providence 5 years ago. Keep up the great work.
A treat indeed...
Beautiful place! Lots of baby fluke, but seemed like a good sport.
The only time I ever see a DEC officer is in your videos. Up Island, I would say there is zero enforcement. Haven't seen a fish cop in six years. I guess they are all following you around.
best combo buddy fishing trip!!
I had 3 encounters in the Peconic with the fish police this year....
More than I have had my entire life!
They are definitely on top of things this year
Hey John. Nice yak trip. Thats par for the course over there lately...2, or 3 keeps. Our ratio has been 25 fluke. 2 keepers 10 robins...east cut, west bay skinny....nice micro blow fish!
Sounds about right. I know they had them much better around 5 days before this, but it didn't last.
Two legends.
"They were cruching them in here" I hate to remind you guys that fish are a renewable resource but you can't take the big ones and NOT end up with only little ones after awhile! As we have seen time and time again in New England waters: THEY CAN BE FISHED OUT! BTW I applaud your release of the big ones on Your boating trips
I think it is counterproductive. You injure one with a hook and instead of keeping it and eating it yourself, you let it go injured back into the water to be even more likely the target of a predator to eat because of its weakness!
Man what a great combo with you two guys i am sub to both of you guys . both of you are true fisherman to the fullest what a treat
You guys , like me , always follow the rules set forth for water safety and DNR !
Even though we need these rules and need law enforcement it still is like having your parents
telling you what to do ! 😂
Good to see the DNR out there. I'd like to see more in Fl.
Glad to see them doing spot checks...wish they were up in the Bronx..horrendous what guys keep.
I miss the Costanzo wallet.
People are keeping shorts left and right more west in queens and Brooklyn area. It’s out of control. I’m really curious to see the state of the fluke fishery after this year.
There was a Tarpon caught on Cape Cod this week.
After paying dearly to fish Montauk, and coming up empty on fluke, this past June, it almost makes me weep to see you let these go😢
A few months ago you used your paddle tail with some Mr. Juice for weakfish. For weakfish it seemed like a good alternative to gulp. Have you tried it on flounder?
Wish we saw those guys more often, there are far too many guys keeping every single thing they catch regardless of legality. Often it's non English speaking people who are the offenders.
Often, they are Asians with an "eat anything" culture. About two years ago, during the season, a group was popped on a Florida pier with a pile of False Bonito three feet high. They were only 3 - 4X over the limit. Nobody but the police bothered with it since nobody else would eat them. Commercial surf fishermen on the Panhandle can even sell fresh Ladyfish to Asians.
Hey, question. When you fish on a kayak for flukes, how tight is your drag on the reel? I hooked up a decent size fluke and while I was trying to net him , he ripped off 25lb fluoro leader and swam away with my s&s bucktail….
I live in NC, and our flounder season is basically nonexistent, 2 days, what a joke, and the dnr are on steroids, but still you can order while baby flounder in a restaurant, I know they aren’t from our waters supposed, but I must say the fishing has gotten better over last 2 years.
35 Illegal fishermen kill every fish they catch every night at Herods pt beach (wildwood state park) in Riverhead .. every darn nigh@!! No help but at least 2 law enforcement agencies with in 1 mile of the spot. repeatedly contacted by Locals Begging for help.. but we get no relief , they don't do anything about it the beach is trashed almost daily. . no matter how many times we ask for help. Thank You NYS Park Police , Thank you DEC, Thank you Riverhead town PD !
I lived for 28 years on Herod Point Road! I'm surprised Riverhead Town Bay Constable won't help you out.
I hear that. Same where I live on LI. Van loads of people from New Jersey camping on the town beach, bonfires, dirty diapers, fishing line, beer cans and bottles, (no alcohol allowed), dead Sea robins and horse shoe crabs. Not one agency will do a thing about it. But is there any point in giving a summons to someone who is in the country illegally in the first place? The rules no longer apply, for some people.
John, are there no fluke inside the bay around shelter island, or gardiners, this time of year. I see you fish a lot off montauk and block island. And the local party boat there is fishing for porgies. Thanks
Correct. Not many keeper fluke in the bay now.
thanks for the reply @@JohnSkinnerFishing
Question, when kayaking there or other high current areas, do you time you trip so that your not paddling ( moving out or returning ) against tidal currents ? Thanks.
Usually, but not this day because I really wanted to fish that spot on that tide.
John were you fishing moriches bay this past Sunday?
no
TH-camr collab of the century 😂
Where do you launch? Been searching for a spot to launch there. Any help would be appreciated 🙏
Crossover episode!
People pay to have their Constitutional Rights violated. No crime committed but you have to surrender your papers, have your personal property searched. I would tell them to kick rocks.
Fish and Game laws are civil not criminal laws. Wardens are free to check you out while fishing.
Does that give the right for local police to do the same ? I’ve never seen a Dec officer in Southold but you’d better watch out for the police !
They can talk all they want but demanding papers, searching your private property. name a law that I broke and I'll give you ID. Get a warrant and you can go through my stuff. You can give up your rights...I'm not.@@zipper7056
break a law, yes, give ID, searches they're going to have to have a warrant or arrest me.@@duffmeister6480
If people did not violate the fishing and safety rules we would have more fish to catch and less people injured, just like children some people who do wrong don't believe they are,I appreciate law enforcement being around, I just wish they were around and catch the cheaters that we see violating the law, undersize fish and over the limits does not help us any, John Skinner is always appreciative when he gets checked.
John, what model Old Town is that? I am getting close to pulling the trigger on a Kayak but can't decided on make or model. TY
Oldtown Sportsman Autopilot 120. There's a link at the bottom of the video description.
Was fishing there late July and caught a 21 incher also lost a weakfish got skunked the other day though
Weakfish - nice to see.
Yeah for sure it was a decent one too thought I had a doormat on 😅
I wish the VA game warden types would check out the piers and other public spots more. I rarely see them and I see lots of illegal fish and crabs being taken. I spoke with one park patrol cop once in a month of almost daily fishin'. I was leaving and he didn't even ask for my license.
It's nice to see you collaborating with other TH-camrs. And it's always a pleasure to watch a master at work, I always enjoy your videos.
You said license, do you mean the salt water registry?
Yes.
So I’m curious as to the License/Permit requirements in the State of NY. I was to understand no License needed for Saltwater. Was it a Park Permit he was looking for?
Saltwater registry proof (free).
@@JohnSkinnerFishing got it. Thanks.
I want that spot for a week
How long can you run that trolling motor for the day?
I've put in long days in the everglades with lots of current without killing a 100ah battery.
Elias needs to move back to the Northeast!
Damn cop.
NY sure has a lot of DFW officers.
surprised the gestapo didn't make you spread your checks and cough
Skinner has been searched more than anyone
3x this season on the LI end.
How come they never seem to stop and check the d bags that are actually poaching.
Very interesting interaction with Fish and Game Officer! Just curious what probable cause did the officer have to search your boat contents? Why would you give up rights and let an overzealous officer search your boat and ask you questions about your activities? Do you lose your basic rights when you fish nowadays?
They have been taking notes from the FBeye it seems. At least they didn't shoot him
Because he’s a good guy and doesn’t cause trouble where it doesn’t need to be caused. That officer was checking licenses, and making sure no one was keeping fish they shouldn’t be. That’s his job. There’s no need to be confrontational with police.
You can live in a police state. I choose to be free and follow the laws. Which guard against unreasonable search.
John is there public parking on LH Road or is a permit required? License photo on phone always saves me time😉
Handing control of your unlocked phone to a cop of any type? NFW😂
@@jimmy_1518 You aren’t giving the phone, you are showing a blow up of the license. All they need to see is your name and the expiration date. I’ve never had an issue either in NY or FL with phone pictures of my fishing license or boat and yak registration.
How much time does it save .
@LI-FLKayakFisherman Are they searching the 86 ft Sportfisher. Nfw
Yea check on the guy you know wont be in violation.
john,
it looks like your scoping alot on those drifts. i was under the impression for best action you need your line straight up and down.
Not much scope at all.
Looks like you caught something lol. I'm sick and tired of the disregard of the rules. Call me selfish but I want there to be fish for my kids. Thanks John for promoting good ethics
If you are worried about your kids having fish in the future I would be more worried about commercial fishing especially with discard mortality over some dude trying to sneak a few fish under the size.
It all adds up dude
@@vlcthefish I'm well aware of the commercial fishing problems but I think that all add up. You go to any popular shore fishing spot and your guaranteed to see under sized fish in people's buckets
"cop searches kayak after fishing with Elias V" My Mother always told me to hang out with the right people!
What hell are they looking for in raft.
Actually, Elias bagged a 21” keeper, and a couple bull reds!✌️🌴😎
Not on this trip. No reds here.
Ever seen a blowfish that tiny!
He searched you just for the halibut..
John, ALL except one fluke was caught on the upper hook on your rig. Don't you think this is telling you something?
The bait was higher in the water column. I could see it when I looked over the side. The higher grub on a plain hook was perfect swimming with the bait.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Exactly my point. In fact it doesn't matter if you are fishing 3 feet or 300 feet, if you hold bottom one hook is always in the sand. Evolution dictated that the fluke eat what they can see and since we never saw a fluke approach a bait upside down to scan the bottom we should realize that bottom hooks and bucktails are virtually useless.
Why not just use a rig with a teaser and a sinker to hold bottom location below the teaser? You could call this the Skinner SWinker Rig (just joking). Now that is innovation! You should try it out before the season ends.
Yes, if it works and I know it will, bucktail makers will only sell 1./2 the bucktails - but you will land more fish.
Over the course of the season about half of my fluke hit the bucktail and half hit the teaser. Most of my largest fish hit the bucktail. The bucktail is swimming just off the bottom, not in the sand. I have underwater video showing this.
Glad to see a game warden confiscate someone's illegal fish, it's such a problem.
Really
They target Skinner because he always says positive things about DEC in camera. Never see them at any of the marinas I have fished from.
I do not mind when they check me when I land. It's good that they check to reduce poaching. I do mind if they cut into my fishing time on the water.
I wonder what happens if you tell a warden that you do not give them permission to search your belongings??
There’s always a C-130 circling above. 17,000 rounds per minute gets that cooler open.
@@WD-41469 here we goooo with the threats of violence, bro shut up !
Police need consent for a search, but game wardens are allowed to check coolers without permission to check for illegal fish (in most states, including New York)
@@guenthersteiner8163 thank you for clarifying that , I was just wondering what rights anglers have in a situation like this
zero@@Exploremorefishing
I’d bet they where watching you through binoculars then meet you when you came in but if you have nothing to hide then it shouldn’t really matter but I always feel violated knowing they sit watch through binoculars I recently had them sit above me thinking I wouldn’t see them & I ours see them watching me I kept moving & fishing in a high brush area with only shore expose & it wasn’t fun getting to where I was as I moved further down I noticed him walking down the slope on the opposite side where it gets hard to traverse I was done fishing so I went through a small trail avoiding going the same direction I came & where fish & game was at not to avoid him but to not go back through all the brush & across a channel so I went up & over & came out around the other side of him & was sitting on a bench looking & I saw him come up in his truck it was funny it was like cat & mouse😂 & I give him credit for going though some nasty terrain 😖
It's nice that the piggy gives you permission to load up your gear..
I have a question... can the police search a boat without a warrant???
Yep.
You think he just brings them home to eat?
Glad to see them checking, pretty fruitless endeavor(with all the big picture stuff that is actually harming fish stocks), but maybe people will not litter so much if they think the man might see em.
Does he know you are Mr. John Skinner? You built your reputation and wouldn't do anything dumb especially on camera. 😂😂
No indication he knew me.
@JohnSkinnerFishing he might know you now after posting this video. I am pretty sure one of his colleagues or friends will be like, "We saw you on John's TH-cam video. Don't you know he is a famous guy who has written and produced so many fishing videos and books?" It is good that wardens are checking. We need more wardens here in California. There are too many poachers breaking the rules and regulations. People wonder why there are fewer fish to catch.
Both of LI goats innone boatt?
6:25 The brand name dropping is really annoying; I guess its good for your share portfolio dividends
just tell him, do you know who I am?I have one of the top fishing channels on youtube, 137,000 subscribers, I teach my viewers how to be good fishing citizens.
Why can police search your personal effects on a kayak but cannot do that with your car without your consent?
That's a great question. Wonder how they react if people approached them and asked where they were coming and going. Have you been drinking? etc lol
They can only _legally_ search a kayak or boat if an officer has reasonable suspicion that a crime is being committed on the boat or that contraband is present on the boat, then they may be able to conduct a search without a warrant. Also, the mere act of fishing cannot constitute a reasonable suspicion.
Your 4th amendment protections apply the same and is no different than your car. Certain conditions must first be met, or consent given.
Regardless, he gave consent by offering for the Warden to check. I myself would not have. I would never invite someone to just start randomly going through my personal property...Nope!
I've been told that the game wardens can come to your home and check your freezers there too.
@@Jeremy-pf3bb No, they need to obtain a search warrant.
No need to power drift on those ledges, if you use a spinning rod, you can hold position and cast up to the bar and jig back. Also 3/4 of an ounce is way too heavy for that kind of fishing. 1/4 oz, 3/8 and maybe a half ounce if you’re using a large gulp grub . 10 pound braid and the tradition fast pop and let drop . Try it one day. I know your fast jigging technique works for you but I think the super light jigs slow fall really draws out the bigger fish. I rarely go over 3/8 of an ounce in most of our back bay areas, including that one. Nice to see two legends fishing together by the way.
haha every video features law enforcement
Gestapo
I don't appreciate getting checked. Particularly, I don't like the small talk.I don't like the gun out in plain sight. He's not my buddy. He doesn't care how I did. He's not a nice guy. He's a cop looking for trouble and I may be it. But I'm not. I'm just a guy out fishing. I obey the rules no matter how stupid they are. I'm 80 and still get checked. What's the point? I wanna be left alone, sir.
Pickwick Lake is dangerous for kayak fishermen. Too many un-policed power boats and water scooters.
Dangerous fools.
Do you have.a death wish, fishing that body of water in a kayak?!
Explain. That's an extremely stable kayak. I'm wearing a PFD and fishing in 73 degree water.
What a scam fish and game is
John why do we do this?? allowing police to "check"?? too many of our forefathers died for our rights and absent a sworn complaint or a cop witnessing a violation they have no right to even ask. They have no reason to "see" your license or look in your boat yet we allow this?? what will procedure be for our sons and grandsons?? a couple days questioning in jail?? If all of us just say "NO" I am standing on my rights as an american! it would stop.
Jackboot across your neck...chatting like they are your friend....cops are NOT your friend, they are AGAINST you. Don't talk.
No reason to turn a very reasonable exchange into a confrontation
