today I drove my orange 73 super beetle to the Costco for a shot of premium and trekked over to a friend's house with some fresh baked cookies. later I took the long way home just for the love of driving. this is an average day in Helga's life. I have been around bugs all of my life being that long haired sort. in fact , worked in a shop that did only bugs. I'm buddies with the owner still. you noticed something that I noticed 8 years ago when I bought Helga, bugs come with the stories, they come with warmth and love to the nostalgic. everybody smiles at you because they can't help it. but man, the stories you hear, you should write a book from your comments section
In 1976 my mom bought a brand new red super convertible. Dad was furious, but quickly grew to love the car. It survived 3 boys and lots of abuse, but my brother saved it and had lots of work done on it over the years. My wife bought it from him and surprised me for my 50th birthday. It now can be seen driving around Moline IL on nice days.
I had a metallic green ‘74 1303s with the 1600 twin port engine. My first car as a student. It had 43,000 miles on the clock when I bought it. I ran it as a student on my commute and then years later in the jobs I had. I drove it regularly on three hours trips. It let me down just the once when the clutch cable broke !, a tricky repair without a workshop. I changed the clutch on it at 50,000 miles when it failed, but it still got me home despite the difficult gear changes !. Eventually my father bought it off me and he ran it for another ten years before it’s demise due to rusty floors where it wouldn’t pass the annual inspection. I still miss it !, a great car and character.
My first car was the ‘74 Super Beetle. Mine had stickers (along the running boards) on the bottom of the doors which said “Super Beetle.” Amazing as it is, I STILL have the original 4-color, rubber Beetle mats which features the red, white & yellow Beetle bug on black rubber mats. Next year they will be 50 years old and in VERY NICE condition! At that time, I will be posting them on EBay and hope there will still be some enthusiasts who will be interested.
I had. ‘74 Super beetle in dark green in 1977 for my school car…I painted it metallic silver…added fake Porsche Fuch wheel wheel covers, custom exhaust etc. trying to turn it into a Porsche. Sold it in 1983 and bought a 1980 Audi 4000 in college and thought I was on a whole new level, felt like a BMOC, lol….
Just bought a '74 Super Beetle, 46,000 miles all original.

I just bought an orange '74 super beetle survivor in Mankato back in June. It was originally from WA but spent the last 37 years in the Mankato area.
Just had to put a clutch in my ‘74 Super. So easy to work on!

Stanley's adorable. He'll always be Boss Baby to me.
My Dad bought my mom an orange 74 regular beetle. $3,200 brand new.
I own a 1970 standard. Bought it from a guy on my mail route. Currently replacing the floor pans and heater channels

I enjoyed it even if I don't own a beetle and just hoping my Rav 4 lasts as long as I do.
with 60HP, you seem to have the larger 1600 displacement, making your super bug a 1303S model.
there's a couple tricks get more power out of the stock motor without spending money on it
Do u still have this car? Looks amazing
