At all the naysayers whose bias is showing, these perform very well and sound great. Disruptive because of the price point and viral marketing and direct shipping which may be uncomfortable for traditionalists.
I’ve replaced nCore amplification with a pair of these and they sound just fine. Levinsons new company Daniel Hertz is using nCore amplification in their new amps selling at mega bucks. For the modest price the V3 mono is surely a great audio bargain despite lacking the cachet of other brands.
I did several tests with amplifiers with TPA3255. My intention is to use my tubes in the cold months and use digital amplification in the warm months. In addition to being environmentally friendly, you also save on your electricity bill. The best I achieved with digital was using a tube preamp and very well built power supplies (this is essential). In this way, an extremely natural sound is achieved, which only loses a little to the valves. I did a blind test with some friends and most of them couldn't identify whether it was the digital amplifier or the one with tubes playing.
If you optimize everything except the amp you will achieve a result that might be difficult for a untrained ear to notice or pickup. Speakers will be extremely important as well. But soundstage, dept, low end, mid and all is restrained compared to better gear. Great value for the money without a doubt, but please be realistic... It's getting dumb at this point now. P3 is a horrible pre btw. Kills soundstage, it's not sounding clean and clear. Yeah I upgraded tubes, op amps and that was a waste of money for the minor differences experienced. Near field computer setups and similar they are amazing for thou
Good stuff! Thank you!
If you want to get the most out of them you can get a 48v 10a (instead of 5a) for each of them. I think the limitation is in the power supply capacitance. You will be driving them even hotter though.
Unlikely. It is the voltage that affects the heat, not the current.
It can also be hotter with a higher output power. At the same power, it will remain as it is.
Great review. I just replaced a week ago my dual mono Schiit Aegir with quad Fosi V3 mono (biamping) via XLR Y split cable with very positive results so far.
You like Fosi better than Ageir? That's on my list too?
Everything you articulated about this amp definitely came through on the sample if you ask me. Im now imagining say 3 of those bad boys PER SIDE powering the TAD's, one amp per transducer. There might be some real potential in that scenario IMHO.
❤
Good review thank you. Can you explain some more the difference you experience with XLR vs RCA.
The XLR input has 8dB more dynamic range than the RCA input, as you can see from their specs. So if you have the option always use XLR connections.
Hey Tharbarmar, I want to ask you, what’s the most musical amp you heard under 1000$?
the v3 mono drive my css criton 1td-x perfect. i have never the feeling that they would need more power. but i have them in a small room. they sound cleaner and as "big" as my 2 smsl a300 in btl mode (with 218 watt at 8 ohm [measured from audio science review..]).
@@lechnerjoe The power from all you mention isn't remotely close to correct. Just hook up a proper 50 w class A and it out power's all above mentioned. Weird huh? Yes I have the V3 with 48v supply and tested on unforgiving power hungry speakers 86 db 6ohm . It falls apart at moderate to low spl while the class A with its 50 watts makes them shine
Hi friend, I would like to ask for your help. I was looking at the review, but I want your honest opinion about the XDUOO XD05 PRO, is it worth buying and then playing and upgrading. And with a Y balanced cable, can I make it a desktop DAC. Will it also as such, be as good as some power DAC in its price range? Thank you for your help. I can't wait for your future reviews, I'd like you to do them every day :)
All good? Doesn't this amount of carpet attenuate your midrange a bit?
Interesting. Some good lower cost stuff coming in to the market now. Of course from China. I wonder (seriously) if the president changes in November will there be a heavy tariff on these goods.
Very straightforward review, and thank you for your honest approach in terms of trying these with harder to drive speakers! So you can connect both of these as left and right as stereo to a single active sub? Could you explain the cabling more specifically? I have a rel sub and am worried about shorting it out 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Please see this video,

@@Tharbamar Looks promising, but I think rel says no to connecting only one of their subs to two monos via speakon. Might be a workaround, but not sure. Might need a second sub 😬
Sub with dedicated speaker inputs is all you need.
It would be good to see a THD spec vs power level.
When are you going to do a review of the SMSL H400, the new headphone amp and preamplifier? Thanks
Great video!! So, I gather from your video, that it is no problem to connect a subwoofer high-level input directly to the speaker posts of the V3 mono, even though it is a digital amplifier?
Yes but Class D is not digital amplifier.
Thanks for the review. A question: were you just using a single adaptor for these amps? Or did you use 2 adaptors (one per amp)
They come with one power brick for each.
A lot of people dissing these Fosi amps. It's easy to speculate but from personal experience I think the ZA3 is not only good for the money but can definitely compete with much more expensive established brands/models. I'd be curious to hear how the V3 monos ACTUALLY sound against the Schiit Aegir monoblocs or other integrated amps in the $2000-3000 range. There's another TH-camr who felt the ZA3 wasn't shamed against a $5000 Naim Supernait 3 in an A/B sound demo. Opinions are all over the place on these.
Since I got the V3 I can tell you no they don't compete vs the better gear you mentioned and it's not very close either. Hype train or used on extremely forgiving speakers that doesn't scale with gear .. Yes it's just like that
@@wegardfjeld3789But would you be able to back up your claims with blind testing? Didn't think so.
@@user-su5cm1kh9n Yes, I have done it and easily so with many friends that enjoy HiFi in all price ranges for many years. Since I do have the first V3, 2 mono V3's, I have the P3, the bt 20 pro, I have tested Tangent products pre and power ampster 2(that at least give the promised power rating), better base and overall better sound picture). I've used a great Hypex amp in the Buchardt I150 ++. It sounds very good on its own and also used as a pre with the V3, Galion A75, class A amps, Tubes.. All tested on the same speakers that I know very well .
That you in your little delusional world believes it matches or even comes close to better gear is on you.
Even if the stereo V3 was a massive disappointment, I had to try the mono V3 to see if it came close to the review hype. It does NOT. It is a great little nearfield amp thou.
Guess I could back my words up huh, not just having a fantasy like you do...
@@user-su5cm1kh9n Done that with several other people. Too easy to hear the difference. V3 comes short at the soundstage, low end, vocals and top. Thanks for trying though 🤪
@@wegardfjeld3789 I agree with you dawg. I'd much rather run my fancy class AB monsters as daily drivers but heat, power and room considerations have made me mostly opt for the v3 lately. Good enough. Also, while a better amp would likely sound 'better' I'm 99% sure I'd fail a double-blind test with flying colours 😎
Vs denon pma- 600ne?
these little amps have better noise to signal ratio on the 36v supply, you might like the sound better but with a little less power....but these are fun toy amps for a budget setup, they are no giant killers.
Where did you see that? I thought the 48v supply had better quality regardless of power.
@KXP70 has lower noise.thats why they send that one...
@@StrangeBrewReviews have you got a website I can go to that shows the measured difference between them?
Pretty Good sound like it!
소리 너무 좋네요!
스피커는 jbl을 사용 하신건가요?
Do you using Jbl speker?
Using S-1EX Towers, thanks
@@Tharbamar Thanks 😊
ThANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THIS
I preordered the fosi monos to combine with the passive preamp little bear and a SMSL DAC (all will be XLR chained)
my question to clarify ... you say you bi wired the active subwoofer (two) one for each mono? and so what determines of my active subwoofer is high level input? im worried ill try this and fry something ;)
thank you in advance
Please check this out very same principle,

Hello Tharbamar, thanks for your video again. Could you please let me know what cable you're using to connect an active subwoofer via high level. I missed it probably in your summary. Many thanks in advance.
Hi I’m using Canare 4S8 Quad Cable, thanks
Looks like you used bare wire on the output posts and then used banana plugs for the speakers. Is that how it's done? Effectively joining sub hi-pass with speakers?
@@mattmiller4978 Yes it is, here is a little short video.

@@Tharbamar Thanks!
Compared to Yamaha rn1000a, which one do you favor more?
Can't beat for the money when you pair with something like WiiM Ultra.
Has anyone tried rolling opamps?
Would this sound better than denon PMA-600NE
V3 will have slightly better bass output in average listening levels, thanks
Is that stevie wonder ?
I just recieved my order of 2 monoblock amps. So far I absolutely love them. Fosi sent me 2 Muses02 chips as a reward for ordering on kickstarter. Does anyone know if one Muses02 chip goes in each amp or both chips go into one amp and I'm supposed to buy 2 more chips for the other amp?
Did you find your answer?
@@klepp19 I reached out to Fosi yesterday and they sent me a response with a picture saying "The op amp in position 1 serves to convert the unbalanced signal from RCA into a balanced signal. The op amps in positions 2 and 3 are responsible for adjusting the tone. If you're looking to change only one op amp, it's recommended to replace the one in position 2. However, if you replace both op amps, the effect will be more noticeable. Positions 2,3 can be replaced with different chips. You can personally experience changing different op amps and op amps in different positions to feel the changes in the sound." In the picture they sent, Position #2 is the middle chip that's next to the bro 2200uf 63v capacitor.
You only need to replace 1@@klepp19
I have the v3 monos and put 3x Muses02 in for each amp. 2 for XLR and 1 for RCA out. Nice step up in sound quality.
If possible, I would like to see a comparison of sound quality using two Fosi Audio ZA3s in mono with balanced connections.
I have both za3 amd v3 mono. Based on my experience, the v3 have wider sound stage and tube like airy sound signature. So I prefer v3 over the za3; however, the v3 has brighter sounding for sure.
you use 2 power supplies or just one? I suggest 2 is appropriate.
This is not meant as as insult. I mention it cos I did not hear it mention in your review.
No problem, please note Fosi do not make 48V/5A single power supply with Y cable for two amps.
Standard is either 32V/5A or 48V/5A, there is option of 48V/10A with Y cable for connecting two amps.
Any songs with bass
Try Argentinian group Dread Mar I - song "My Lord" from the album Amor-es released in 2008
Hi pass the monoblocks 70hz f-mod. Plate amp subwoofer, budget friendly , 70hz down. Geshellia lab don't know spelling but you can get stunning sound cheaply details , wisdom of what works helps 50 years tech..
The actual measured numbers are way lower.
Less than half
If you chase the cheap class D route you’ll end up with a closet full of them and less money in your wallet vs just spending a grand or so on a nice amp to begin with.
exactly , spend $420 on a niles SI-1200 and you'll be fine for long time or $1000 on a schiit or CLA200 ....these are junk toy amps only really good for a garage or surround sound duty on a make shift setup..I have a couple I use them for surround sound currently but wish I never even got them. they will be junked soon or maybe I'll donate them to a work radio.
@@StrangeBrewReviews 100% agree
Save up and get a Sugden A21 SE, Musical Fidelity A1, or Schiit Aegir. If you can live with modest listening levels, either amp will take you to audio nirvana. There are also A1 Chinese clones that sound absolutely amazing for the money.
@ChicagoRob2 way too many good amps for not much more....heck the Yamaha as301. Or the onkyo 9110...pioneer ae10 are all $200-$350...dayton audio has some decent amps now...even a big boy 400 for cheap.
@@StrangeBrewReviews I have had a Yamaha A-S301 for seven years. It’s a great integrated. Excellent sound and lots of features for the money.
For a raw, pure Class A amplifier, a $300 Musical Fidelity A1 clone is unbeatable. I did a volume control delete mod on mine, so it’s strictly a power amp. I run it with a Sonic Frontiers tube preamp. It’s end-game for me.
Waste of time mate
Have you listened to them?
@@benjiebautista3960of course he hasn’t
Non ha molto senso pilotare dei diffusori da 1000 dollari ,ma anche da 500, con questo apparecchietto da 100 dollari....lo dovresti accoppiare a dei diffusori da 100-200 dollari al massimo e non aspettarti chissa cosa...
My Stereoloudspeaker cost $2500, audiophile, 92dB sensitivity and it sounds absolutely amazing, on my two ZA3s. So my V3 Monos will be here mid august or so, looking forward to the incremental accoustic improvements.
Cheap rubbish
More power than most will ever need. And their speakers are worse
Have you listened to them?
@@benjiebautista3960The obvious question! I wonder about anti Chinese attitudes in hifi. What would the reception be if these came from Denmark for example?
🤡
hi, I would like to ask you, my friend, if only a short answer is possible, do you think the SMSL SU-X is the best Delta Sigma DAC up to 1000 dollars, thank you, good luck
Yes, it is.
