Extra: "Into The Night", written by Benny Mardones and Robert Tepper, was originally released in 1980 and peaked at #11. Then, in 1989, was re-released after a "Where Are They Now?" feature on the Arizona radio station KZZP, which led to renewed interest in the song. The influential program director Scott Shannon added it to his playlist in Los Angeles, and radio stations across the country followed suit. A new version of the song was released, and this time it hit #20 in the US. The song is unusual for being one of only 10 recordings ever to ascend to the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 twice.
"Into the Night" just blew up the charts, sold millions of records and it was the song of the summer of 1980.
Statistically it's still the 25th most played song on American radio today.

7 years later, and you're still bad a**I really admire you dude. I'm 67 and after all the years of not having a drum set. I finally bought about a $5000. Yamaha Drum set because my first wife in 1979. She left me and took my drum set. It took me a lot of years to get back again. We're I wanted to be. But I Never wanted to be in a band I just love playing The drums and listening to music.

It is refreshing to see a drummer being a drummer. I like your choices of songs. They are well written pop songs but still offer a challenge to the drummer. I am tired of the drummers with 100 piece sets trying to play the fastest most odd time signatures. It is always about the groove.

I had the pleasure of seeing 'The Voice' Benny Mardones perform live many times in Syracuse, NY. The first time was at the infamous outdoor show at 'Long Branch Park in 1984, the show that started the love affair between Benny and Central New York. His voice could give you chills on a 90 degree evening as he belted out "Into the Night" in front of thousands of Syracuse fans! Sadly for the last several years he has been battling Parkinson's disease and has had to stop performing in public. His last show was last December at the Turning Stone Casino just outside of Syracuse, NY at his annual Christmas concert. Sadly I wasn't in attendance. I really enjoyed your drum cover to "Into The Night"

The first few times I heard this song when it came out, I assumed the singer was black, so I was shocked when I later discovered he was a white guy.
Benny loved Syracuse right to the end. He always said he thought it was truly his home. He was always 100% respectful to our city, and Syracuse loved him back three fold. RIP Benny.

Great sound. Love that snare. Probably one of the better tunings I've heard in a while. And to be honest, it sounds like the original 1980 recording. Flawless and smooth performance. I love when a drummer has that control and knows when to stick to the original and not do stupid fills that throw the flow off. Excellent performance. Mr. Gennaro and Mr. Mardones would be proud. Dude! Tim! What a drum track you laid down for that tune! I LOVE the tom hit you came up with and the feel that the drums give the song overall. It made the song. Not to mention the crescendo at the end then fades the song out. Brilliant!

Absolutely plays the notes as intended with the drums as the old saying goes less is more and the notes are place where they should be. I'm one who does the same and play(drum along) the song hits of the 70s and 80s and little some from the 90s thanks for posting its almost safe to say he like me is more of a feeling learned drummer than a click track trained the feeling learning I believe takes longer to develop that inner time clock which allows be to pick up just about any song of my liking.😊

Wow, I have this EXACT drum set! Picked it up for $400 in 1998 or so. Tama Superstar dark mohogany concert toms something like 7 toms? (I don't actually use all of them) Realls looks beautiful in your videos! How come you don't play it in more of them??
