My ex husband left me with debt. I took a second job for 4 1/2 years. I paid off all the debts plus my student loan. And I paid extra toward toward the mortgage every month. I have been on a strict budget the entire time. The job was to pay off bills, not to spend money on more stuff. And I am quitting the second job this month. I have never felt better.
My ex-husband borrowed money on the house pushed the mortgage up and left me with a disability pension. I could not afford to repay and I have tried to establish businesses to help get out of debt. Nothing worked. But my faith and determination 🙏🏼 will get me through.
My dad taught all his 10 girls this " Don't look at what others have because you don't know how they acquire it and they probably not able to sleep in their bed at night because debt keeps them away or they working long hours to pay for stuff". I follow that advice to this day. He's gone 40 years but his wisdom lives with us. He was a successful businessman man who was blind.
I think this advice is more or less to help people who struggle with the urge to "keep up with the Jones" and end up struggling financially because of it, and not necessarily to judge or wag your finger at people for going into debt to make their purchases. That feeling to keep up appearances is hard to shake esp now days with social media so if you can remind yourself that some people with nice looking stuff could also be a paycheck away from losing it all maybe that would scare you enough into being more financially responsible. Assumptions do generally make people look foolish however and not everyone who has nice stuff is in debt. But a lot of is are 🤑
Hi from the UK 🇬🇧. I got out of debt many years ago. It took me many years to build my finances slow and steady is the way for me. I stopped wanting what other people have. I learned to praise other people's achievements and feel blessed for what I have.
Well done. I'm battling with patience myself. How to you overcome that. I'm 29 and paying off my last debt. I don't own a house and started with retirement for the first time last year, contributing atlest 9% of my income per month. I want to get to 1 million networks when I'm 38. I don't know if I'll be able to do that.
One of the biggest things that brings joy to my heart is the phrase "I remember the day I prayed for what I have today." It completely changed the way I look at everything. And you can apply that to other people as well if you find yourself maybe a little envious. Remind yourself that there was a day that they prayed for what you are envious of, and it shifts into happiness for them.
Between August and September I spent 3 weeks in the hospital with covid. Add to that recovery time, I didn’t work for almost 5 months. I had a short term disability policy through AFLAC, but my emergency fund helped keep me afloat. Thankfully I took Dave’s advice awhile ago so I did have that fund 😁
I was in the hospital too around that time but I was out of work for 6 weeks, I had a 6 month e-fund that I used to stay afloat and the rest I used to start the debt snowball.
Tell that to Dave directly. He doesn't believe Covid is a big deal, holds public large gatherings and regularly call people who support sanitary measures 'wosses'.
@@jacqueshetu639 And for another super-spreader event he wanted to hold, he called the event planner calling to cancel it (due to quarantine) an "eight dollar an hour twerp". Real classy.
I love that Dave doesn't look down on adults doing service jobs. I think a lot of people are in situations where taking a second job even temporarily would improve their life drastically but they feel too embarrassed or above working these jobs. In my late 20's I took on a weekend job as a cashier and I remember so many people from highschool/college running into me and I could tell they were slightly looking down at me. Not all of them but I could see their arrogance. I wonder how many of them were/are debt free like me and saving for a down payment?
I know a lot about people like that.. it's sad that people think that way.. I have always had low paying jobs but mostly cause I enjoyed them. A couple I had were great paying well a living wage at least.. but gave it up as it was making me physically and mentally sick... I have never gone by the monies, never been out to get rich... In Fact, I don't know how those billionaires need that much money and some don't donate or give to family then they pass and money is gone ... even today that I am older people ask what would u do if u won a big lottery, would u by a mansion.. gawd no.. I live by my self would just like a med size condo probably some one to drive me around in a reg car not a limo and someone to help me with the clean and maintenance of the home.. Would by each of my family members a home not fancy just something they need not necessary want...
Minimum wage in San Diego is fifteen dollars an hour. Im not embarrassed at all to take that. In fact, I'm happy to take that income from a second job. I'm a pure capitalist.
Taking on a second job is what I call a hustle 🔥 saving extra money is goals and your paving the way for your future. I signed on for Uber eats and I can do deliveries on the weekend for some extra money. Ignore the ignorant folks!
I love what Rachel had to say about online shopping - the add to cart and then close down the tab. I give myself a cooling-off period - at least 24 hours. A lot of the time I realise I can make do with what I already have, or I would rather save my money than have more clutter, but if I do decide to buy it I can do it guilt-free, it's been a mindful purchase for me.

This could have been boiled down to 1, which would have been a combination of 8 & 10. But people like Top Ten lists, so those should have been numbers 1 and 2 to start the video.
Dave I love to hear the Bible verses with the saving money. I am where I need to be , on the right tract with my freedom to wealth. Budget has always been in my vocabulary and applied to my life. It helped me pay off my house in 7 years while I was raising 3 kids. My regular job and side jobs all being a single mom. They are al grown and own their own. Now, I continue to do the same things and I’m able to save money now. I put away the house payment money that I no longer pay, every month.
I'm only halfway in and I feel like everything you've said is stuff the Spirit has already told me, but I needed another witness I could generally trust to give good biblical money advice. God bless you, Dave & Rachel.

every new years, I make a resolution based on finances. 2 years ago after discovering Dave Ramsey and his baby steps I made the resolution to pay my car off that year (2 years early on the loan) and I accomplished that goal. The following year I made the resolution to pay off my boat (3 years early on the loan) and I accomplished that goal. This year my goal is to get my 6 month emergency fund saved up. My bank account is currently the lowest it's ever been with just under 2 months expenses saved up with some big bills coming up in January and February, but by March if everything goes right I should be back up to about 3-4 months of expenses, but I'm more comfortable with 6 months. The house is set to be paid off in 2 years with minimum payments left, and I have no kids so no college fund to worry about.
@@LyonsArcade yep, but it's worked for me. the only debt I have now is $7,500 on my house. I can't wipe out my bank account paying debts off because I always have some multiple thousand dollar expense pop up every year out of the blue

Started our budget this month and it feels so good. I left the house today without eating breakfast and I was tempted to buy a piece of pumpkin bread at the Starbucks in Target. I passed. My next stop was Walmart. Oddly, canned cat food is in short supply everywhere, thus Target and Walmart. I picked up an apple at Walmart. Such a little thing but saved a couple of dollars. It’s the little things that get you.
@@wiseowl2020 we’ve been buying it at Costco but apparently there is an aluminum can shortage. I would make it but they require specific nutrients. Between wet and dry cat food and litter, our budget for cats is about $100 per month. I have 6 in the house and I feed ferals outside.

Rachel, thanks for clarifying with Dave about "the cool kids" versus "the people who think we're 'too basic' and don't truly understand finance.'" You nailed some of my relational issues I've encountered when trying to explain DR. For me, "basic" has been working over the last 8 years. I've been really happy with the results. Thank you so much. Slow and Steady, baby.
Thank you! I decided to pay off my student loans as soon they granted the extension till May. I got tired of waiting and thankfully I was able to pay them all of on my own, a sacrifice that was worth because I did it not the government.
So happy to see you both in this video 🎉 I’ve learned so much from Mr Ramsey throughout the years. 2022 makes 10 years since following Mr Ramsey. I’m so grateful to have learned the wisdom he shares. It’s helped my family and I through all the different seasons in life. May God continue to pour into you and continue to help families live a blessed content abundant life 💖
Thanks Rachel and to your father. You both are great examples of what potential don't see in themselves. Be patience with ourselves go slow and steady, you will win the race.
i feel pretty cool investing into our retirement. i’ve seen the struggles my older families have had not having any retirement & now that we have started & in our early 30s, is just a weight off my shoulders. i don’t care about the hot new thing. i want our future to be secure more then being popular.
I think people need to spend money on something, so instead of spending it on stuff you don't need, spend it on investments, your mortgage, follow the principles. Then you can at least feel you spending money when you start paying off your mortgage. My goal this year is to throw more money at my mortgage. Thanks to the Ramsey show for keeping us all focused, thank you!
Love the crypto discussion, thank you!! These guys are so great, every time I listen to them; I learn something, or I get motivated or I gain a great saying to put in my back pocket. Love it, Dave & Rachel thank you for doing what you do!
Thanks to Dave for teaching me about emergency funds and sinking funds. Pandemic time my family was fine because I had money saved and could buy necessities when I heard people were “panic buying “. Thanks to the Preppers who taught me about stocking a pantry to survive crazy times. ❤️
I have literally been looking at luxury bags and found myself doing the same thing you were talking about... the PayPal after pay...the hiding of products so my husband doesn't get on me. But I found my way back to Ramsey solutions on TH-cam via watching luxury minimalism (colorful noir) and realizing she is saying the same thing Dave says. And as a woman I love how you explain your own thoughts which are similar to mine!
I put stuff on my shopping list online. Then I let it sit. Then I see if the need for anything comes back. If it does, I think again about buying the item. If not I consider just deleting it. Most items end up deleted. It really eliminates impulse buys.
Your habit of putting items in your online cart and then leaving the website works! I also did this when shopping a real store (especially with clothing). I touch it or try it on, put it in my cart, walk around the store with it and then put it back. Having items in my physical cart gave me that feeling of possession and putting them back saved me money!
I agree! I’ve done this in the past where I would have something in my cart for awhile and if I spend too much time in the store/get tired I no longer want the item anymore
I do the same thing with adding stuff to my cart but don’t buy it. I think I have over $1,500 in my Amazon cart. I look back and think, I’m so glad I didn’t buy it. Also I’ve had emergency funds that I’ve had to dip into and so glad that I did! Never got into crypto, kinda scared of it.
I want to thank Dave Ramsey for opening my eyes and make aware how important a good habit is. For the first time in my life, I have 100% control over my money habits…❤️❤️❤️
Thank you both for this great video. I love to see the father and daughter interactions. You can feel the genuineness. I hope you both have a blessed year!!!
Thank you so much for helping me & so many people! Dave, people have their opinions about you, I know I did. However, as the years have flown by, I've developed an appreciation for you.l! Only once Ive changed my perspective in regards to my own personal finances (about 7years ago) I stopped being angry, particularly at monitary "successful folks". I decided to put my "man pants" on & took responsibility for where I was at in Life! Once again, I say thanks Dave & of course you too Rachel 😊. Thanks for being a light in a world where there is currently so much darkness! Much love ❤️
I so cannot understand why people think the government is responsible for their student loans. If you borrowed the money pay it back!! Some of these people should have had part-time jobs while they were in college! Student loans are not meant to cover every expense...work part-time and pay your rent and groceries!
I live in North Country and have had Amish do some work on my home. I’ve been to their mill and realized they are happy where they are and what they have. I am so intrigued by the way they live without electricity, internet, cars etc. when everyone in their town has those things. How do they stay humble?
I'm so grateful for this video. The simplicity of conversation and the ease of how you speak . I've have learned. And my biggest problem it's my ego . I hope I remain humble and stay the course. Thanks Uncle Dave
Dave Ramsey has helped so many people that were willing to learn and not be prideful. I just downloaded every dollar because I wanted to track my spending since I just moved and live a diffferent lifestyle. When I saw it said Dave Ramsey I was so excited. Thank you for the free app gift
That's exactly what I do on Amazon. I window shop by putting items in my cart and wait a few days. If I really need it I buy only when I can afford it.
So excited to see this. Just yesterday I looked to see if you and your dad did this lesson. I watched last year's and it helped me a lot. I am almost done paying off our car, then just the house. Thank you x a million 🙂
Rachel being honest about her assumptions of people with nice things going on nice vacations. 🤣 I do that with people who have really clean houses. "She probably hires a house cleaner." Makes me feel better about myself. 😂
I have noticed that I buy stuff off the internet, and when it arrives a week later, I cannot remember what it was that I bought. I guess that it couldn't be something too important if that's the case. And the whole "save for later" thing rejuvinates the desire to buy something you don't really need.
My advice to new investors: Buy good companies stocks and hold them as long as they are good companies. Just do this and ignore the forecasts and market views which are at best entertaining but completely useless. Grateful to Rita Wildrin Mora.
My method is to buy quality firms, anticipate to hold them regardless of what happens, pay up but not too much, keep track, sell only when necessary, and be ready to course correct.
I don't budget for monthly/ reoccurring expenditures. I budget monthly for a minimum savings of 15% of my gross income. If there's not enough money remaining in my account to purchase "x" after setting aside at least 15% of my paycheck, I don't purchase it.
Great content, great delivery! Happy New Year! Ready to do this!!😁💪🏼 so tired of not following through and sabotaging myself...ready to move forward and not look back!

Starting early is the best way of getting ahead to build wealth, investing remains a priority. The stock market has plenty of opportunities to earn a decent payout, with the right skills and proper understanding of how the market works.
Buy a good cross section of an economy, Build a diverse portfolio that keeps you motivated,Speed up the process where possible:i use an FA, side hustle, reinvest, After my first million I realized that when a stock starts booming chances of you finding out means you are quite late to the party, for this I make sure my CFA handles that, Rita Wildrin Mora .it's like turning your notifications to earn more millions.
#9, I totally do the same as Rachel. I tell myself, "yeah, that's a really beautiful home, but image how much they pay for mortgage, utilities, upkeep, etc."
I am in the UK and always listen to Dave Ramsey shows. Although the American finance is different and I don't understand it clearly. However Debt is Debt and Dave's shows are universal. In the UK it is somewhat taboo subject and yet there must be millions of households struggling. We need a Dave Ramsey type in UK as there seems to be less discussion on this subject.
In his book, "Way of the Fight" UFC Legend Georges St-Pierre states that martial arts skill improves in increments. People don't become experts in a short amount of time. Dave's analogy for money being the same way reminded me of that wisdom.

You nailed some of my relational issues I've encountered when trying to explain DR.
Proud of you!!!! I know many who are just waiting for the govt to do it for them.....sad....
So happy to see you both in this video 🎉 I’ve learned so much from Mr Ramsey throughout the years. 2022 makes 10 years since following Mr Ramsey. I’m so grateful to have learned the wisdom he shares. It’s helped my family and I through all the different seasons in life. May God continue to pour into you and continue to help families live a blessed content abundant life 💖
Yes to everything about Mr. Ramsey. No to Rachael who cannot talk without laughing!
thank you 🙏 I learn a lot from Dave Ramsey and his daughter I am almost debt free
Rachel is the most millenial of the Ramsey personalities, which makes these videos real funny
I like her point of view a lot better than his.
Happy New Year Dave. I’m still paying my last bill with gazelle speed. Almost at the finished line. Best wishes to everyone.
Truth. That's what we have here. No matter what...this teaching is never going to change because it works.
This video was about so much more than money. Thank you both.
I do the same thing and fill my online carts and don’t buy. I think it’s like virtual window shopping which I used to do.
Good idea
Awesome
That’s how I view spending money. I would rather invest and pay down my mortgage instead of buying useless items.
Thanks to the
Preppers who taught me about stocking a pantry to survive crazy times.
What an interesting revelation about Speculation/Rampant Consumerism being a Spiritual position - ABSOLUTELY! Put on your Armour daily xx
I really appreciate the WOMANLY sensitivity and transparency that she has about money. ❤️ Thanks for this Daddy and Daughter!
I put stuff on my shopping list online. Then I let it sit. Then I see if the need for anything comes back. If it does, I think again about buying the item. If not I consider just deleting it. Most items end up deleted. It really eliminates impulse buys.
I love how you two communicate together ... gave me a chuckle
I add things to my cart all the time and delete them. I thought I was the only one. It does feel good. 😁
Me too! 🤗 I then mull over it and convince myself that I didn't need it. 🙃
Loved the quote "love your life and not theirs" thank you. Happy New Year!
This was so helpful and convicting. Thanks, Ramsey people!
I want to thank Dave Ramsey for opening my eyes and make aware how important a good habit is. For the first time in my life, I have 100% control over my money habits…❤️❤️❤️
Thank you both for this great video. I love to see the father and daughter interactions. You can feel the genuineness. I hope you both have a blessed year!!!
putting stuff in a cart and then leaving it is modern 'window-shopping'!
Great team up Dave and Rachel! Thank you for clarifying crypto
as being speculative. Love your passion Rachel ❤️
YES do the parenting podcast!
Parenting podcast with them!! Yessssssss!
That’s what I do since I started following your dad about 3 -4 years ago. Now it takes me about a year to buy one shoe 👞 😁
I live in North Country and have had Amish do some work on my home. I’ve been to their mill and realized they are happy where they are and what they have. I am so intrigued by the way they live without electricity, internet, cars etc. when everyone in their town has those things. How do they stay humble?
just remember, the amish are also notorious for animal cruelty. where I live, they are the most common locations of puppy mills
@@drunclecookie216 maybe that's where they get $$$$
Thank you very much. This money management lessons are remarkably educative, motivative and inspiring. God bless.
Thanks for being with us through our baby steps.
I have noticed that I buy stuff off the internet, and when it arrives a week later, I cannot remember what it was that I bought. I guess that it couldn't be something too important if that's the case.
And the whole "save for later" thing rejuvinates the desire to buy something you don't really need.
Now we need 10 things to do toward investing your money in 2022. Dave yes? I love you brother
I love this man's honestly. Your life is your job
I did read about Rita Wildrin Mora on the web., quite an interesting lady with an amazing track record
exactly Invest early, invest often, stay invested.
I googled the lady you mentioned, and left a mail after going through her credentials. I'm willing to make consultations to improve my portfolio
Which stocks can one buy
I do the same thing. When I see people on vacation or in TEslas because the stats are the stats most people don't own anything they just renting.
I don't budget for monthly/ reoccurring expenditures. I budget monthly for a minimum savings of 15% of my gross income. If there's not enough money remaining in my account to purchase "x" after setting aside at least 15% of my paycheck, I don't purchase it.
Also, I know Rachel built a house recently! Can she do an episode on the process of doing that with cash?!!!!
I take a portion of my tithe money and buy for Operation Christmas Child. I get my shopping fix, kids get Christmas, and the Gospel is being spread!
He’s so positive! “It’s going to be a good year.” The rest of us are like, uhhhh you sure about that?
I’m glad I watched this. Thank you, Dave and Rachel!
i love how blunt your dad is
You guys are adorable together, great job of raising such a smart, and wonderful daughter Dave!
Thank you for this! Absolutely honest, real and helpful!! Blessings to you both!!
I enjoyed this video so much last year & so happy to see another similar video for 2022! Thank You!
Thanks Dave Ramsey 🌎 Greetings from Colombia. The Venezuelan Immigrant writer 🇻🇪
All the best to you both Rachel and your Dad. Thank you for sharing this episode to start a great 2022 ahead🥂🍾🎉🥳❤️
Rachel love your Dad....Paid house off in 2 years 180000...THANK YOU
Great content, great delivery! Happy New Year! Ready to do this!!😁💪🏼 so tired of not following through and sabotaging myself...ready to move forward and not look back!
The video is good 😎😎. How about Kyrrex 🙄? Was there already a conversation or a dedicated video 🤔🤔?? I read about this project myself a little, but I didn't really understand ☹️ if you could explain what it is! Would be grateful 🙄🙄!
“The only way to save money on little things…pay attention!” Such great advice!
Starting early is the best way of getting ahead to build wealth, investing remains a priority. The stock market has plenty of opportunities to earn a decent payout, with the right skills and proper understanding of how the market works.
You are right, to be a successful person in life requires hard work and time
"Success usually comes to those who are too busy looking for it,"- Henry David Thoreau
Talking about being successful. I know I am blessed if not I wouldn't have met someone who is as spectacular as Mrs Pamela Kay Weaver
She helped me recover all I've lost trading by myself
Wow you really know expert Pamela ..? I'm a living testimony of expert Pamela , she has been trading for me for months now
Buy a good cross section of an economy, Build a diverse portfolio that keeps you motivated,Speed up the process where possible:i use an FA, side hustle, reinvest, After my first million I realized that when a stock starts booming chances of you finding out means you are quite late to the party, for this I make sure my CFA handles that, Rita Wildrin Mora .it's like turning your notifications to earn more millions.
Consistently investing in quality dividend paying companies over the long term is a relatively easy strategy to create generational wealth.
The stock market controls a huge part of my passive income portfolio, I invest big and my profits come even bigger
I did read about Rita Wildrin Mora., quite an interesting lady to look up on the web.
I love Dave's no BS talks.
#9, I totally do the same as Rachel. I tell myself, "yeah, that's a really beautiful home, but image how much they pay for mortgage, utilities, upkeep, etc."
I do the same thing with stuff in my cart on Amazon etc.
I have always had trouble paying myself first. Saving first. That is my resolution for 2022.
the book "atomic habits" really emphasizes the power of compound interest in not just money but good habits (and bad ones!) God bless yall!
Great content! I really enjoyed it! Thanks you guys 💕
Mock online shopping 🛍 for therapy. Then deleting all what’s in the cart 🛒 is key 🔑 🙌🏾🙏🏽
thank you as always and happy new year!
I love Dave
Such a great conversation. Thank you so much!
Thanks for talking crypto. I heard a podcast that was making me nervous I wasn’t diving into it, and wanted your thoughts.
Hello Krystle Happy New Year, how are you doing today?
I am in the UK and always listen to Dave Ramsey shows. Although the American finance is different and I don't understand it clearly. However Debt is Debt and Dave's shows are universal. In the UK it is somewhat taboo subject and yet there must be millions of households struggling. We need a Dave Ramsey type in UK as there seems to be less discussion on this subject.
Dave's teaching on how the bible instructs us to handle money (and life) really works.
Hello Julia Happy New Year, how are you doing today?
In his book, "Way of the Fight" UFC Legend Georges St-Pierre states that martial arts skill improves in increments. People don't become experts in a short amount of time. Dave's analogy for money being the same way reminded me of that wisdom.
11.) Move part of your emergency fund to index fund to keep up with inflation.
