Now I am waiting for each new one to be posted. I find the combination of interesting info, humor and nice music (Tom Carradine, Lil Lost Lou!) very entertaining.

I moved from Barking in 1958 when I was 13 years old. It has changed tremendously since then but some places remain, like St Margaret's Church, where my parents were married, the Abbey remains with the Curfew Tower. Then down to the old Town Quay and the sluice gate with what we called 'the rushing waters'. There is a lot of history, much of which you gave and now a lot of development which promises much for the future. Excellent video (as always).

Fascinating. I'm from/live in Dagenham, my grandad worked at Fords throughout the war and my dad was involved in building the Barking barrier (along with other construction such as Canary Wharf, the Broadgate development, etc). I've subscribed and look forward to what you might reveal about Dagenham (PS the Dagenham Corridor is often overlooked when people talk about this area but well worth a visit (including the various pill boxes, tank traps and what remains of the Dagenham canal)).

What a lot of manpower and millions of workhours and sweat to construct all those buildings, wharves, canals, and trainlines..... and then manufacture all those goods.... on top of working in fishing boats; definitely not a pleasure cruise once one has to head out to the North Sea without modern weather maps and forecasts and radios.

One of the best yet. Splendid work from Lil Lou too with the song about the Devil taking girls from the abbey, which started to make sense about 3/4 of the way through. Council guy doing a great job too.
Elizabeth Fry: "Although Quakers do not have funeral services, over one thousand people attended her burial, which was held at North Street in Barking, Essex. The Meeting House, opposite the burial ground, is now in the 21st century a Sikh Temple, and the burial ground was purchased by Barking Council. Although Elizabeth Fry's remains are still buried at her original grave site, her headstone was moved to the Quaker Cemetery in Bush Road, Wanstead." Find-A-Grave

Loved an interesting fact about Montague Burton. My mum used to work in Waterstones in Brighton which was previously a Burtons menswear store. It still has the original Burtons signage engraved into the stonework, which her office was just below. Our surnames Burton by the way 😊

Spotted Dog is still there, And the Royal Oak ( flyhouse) has recently re-opened, but now known as the Acorn. I remember being in The Volunteer (n after a walk down to riverside when it was very much still the docks ) and seeing the Senna Crash on the Screen. That has been gone over 20 years now.

I was a trained soldier and joined a reserve airborne unit in London, the only people who spoke to you were the lads in training, and the staff, 46 of us started eventually 6 of us passed and earned the maroon beret, from that that day you was accepted, got my wings, that was 37 years ago, I made friends that I still have today and part of the Airborne brotherhood forever.

I've been anticipating a new Joolz Guide all week - as usual, Joolz did not disappoint - thank you good sir - dedicated followers of Sir Joolz will be amused to note that the TH-cam algorithm has started recommending episodes of The Avengers at the end of the video - is this based on a search for bowler hats, or the family connection to the show, or both perhaps?

But that's what is so great about Joolz's videos. Not every part of London can have the beauty of a St Paul's or a Hyde Park, but even the dreariest looking suburbs have an incredible amount of treasures hidden among the greyness.

As many have said, council leader top bloke, local, he knows the areas history and he's passionate. I live in Enfield, once a powerhouse of industry and i'm confident in saying our council leader and her councillors have not got a clue about it's history. Another great video Jools, top stuff.
