    Good video. Many do not know how therapeutic it is to mow on an old tractor. Thanks!

      I wish I could get around to mowing on my Massey more often but unfortunately, it seems life gets busier and busier each day. Hopefully this fall I can get some better footage of brush hogging the fields.

    I would suggest raking up all of the cuttings and leaves. In this manner, there will be more of of a chance covert this large area for more production.

      It would be nice to do what you have suggested and then disc the area. Maybe the golden rod wont come back so heavily

    Your bush hog real cuts very well! I think if you pass over the entire field twice, you could end up with the beginnings of a Golf Course👍!

      I'm shocked the brush hog cuts so well. I have never replaced/ reshaped the blades on it and I bought it in 2016!

    The Video looks good! You could possible lower the blades further an closer to the ground for as close as at any Golf Course. Anyway, nice work!

      I've been told by a handful of people about horror stories with brush hogging and hornets/ Bees... I haven't committed to a tractor with a cab because I would love to buy a compact track loader with a cab and a brush hog. Unfortunately, there is a large price difference there so it will be a while before I can afford one.

      You bring up a good point. A lot of times I'll brush hog during the season just to keep from bryers and saplings from growing too large. If you brush hog regularly (couple times a season) it should allow for better vegetation to grow back. I'd agree with you though it's probably a lot easier on the machine to brush hog in the fall but you may run into really wet conditions and leave ruts in your fields

  • @traviskingrey4335

    Sounds like your governor is not working, revving up way too high, better get that checked out before you make a new window in the block!
    Overall nice vid! I have a 60 and a 61 35. the 61 is a mowing machine

    • @GAVINCANFIELD
      @GAVINCANFIELD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That could be why it seems the tractor runs well for like 45 mins while brush hogging then starts pulsing.. the thermo couple for the temp gauge is broken off inside the coolant neck on the front of the engine and I cannot seem to get it out either. I will have to get these issues fixed up or like you said I'll be out a good tractor.

    • @traviskingrey4335
      @traviskingrey4335 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GAVINCANFIELD That could also be the condenser or ignition coil breaking down causing that. I hate to say it but my coolant gauge doesn't work either for the 2 years I've owned it. I just make sure rad fins are clean and its full. Should definitely check out the governor though, over revving is the fastest way to kill one aside from running it with no oil.

    Bush hogg good, but try pulling around a disc harrow and you'll knock down the golden rod better through the roots.

    • @GAVINCANFIELD
      @GAVINCANFIELD  ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you know if the Massey would have enough power for the disc? I do want to disc certain area for sure but I was worried the tractor wasn't quite big enough to handle that attachment

    • @raymondutter2616
      @raymondutter2616 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GAVINCANFIELD disc harrows are produced in different sizes. Look around for a suitable size. Adjustable pitch for disc drag. Used a 6 foot on the farmall H.

    • @GAVINCANFIELD
      @GAVINCANFIELD  ปีที่แล้ว

      @raymondutter2616 6 ft would probably be a good size for the Massey or else the tires would be wider than the implement

    • @raymondutter2616
      @raymondutter2616 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GAVINCANFIELD yes should cover up tire tracks, harrow should have different settings for angle of use. Straight for towing and a few different angles to dig and cut. Works well for dry vs moist pulling. I don't know everything but it will be a starting point for you to investigate. Harrow worked good for golden rod and the purple menace, annual wood like roots removed from the ground to dry out and fade.

    Were i in your shoes I'd get that brushog and tractor on a good flat surface, drop the tail wheel to it's lowest position (highest cut), and level the brushog and tractor as one unit with your 3 point screw.
    There is no benefit to hogging that low unless the next step is to apply glyphostate. If you raise your hog up to the highest cut you'll pass over the rocks and stones, you will get a much better chop and distribution of the cuttings because they won't be trapped under the deck, your plants will grow thicker and eventually crowd out the brambles and your field will look a lot better.
    Give it a try. You won't be sorry. :)
    Good luck!

    • @GAVINCANFIELD
      @GAVINCANFIELD  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Steve, I will definitely try out your recommendation. I believe the adjustment arm on the 3 pt hitch however, is seized. So I may have to fight that a bit. One thing I also noticed in the past when trying to "level" out the brush hog is the lock washers do not seem to be holding the bolts tight any longer. So if I extend out the top link it collapses the mounting brackets on the top of the brush hog. I'm sure a quick trip to the hardware store would cure that issue though. If not, I always have a welder lol

      That would definitely allow me to brush hog at a faster speed. I would like to get a 4x4 Tractor with a bucket on the front so i can find rocks and trees with the bucket before the brush hog finds them.

    That nature stuff huh! It just keeps coming… don’t turn your back on it… it’s a sneaky bugger. Maybe your engineering brain could take a look at some old vids on captain kleeman”s channel where he modified his brush hog to help with saplings etc? He called it the “whoopa choppa”
