Oh also, don't reduce the budget to your power, the initial surge of money is soon negated by government subsidies again.

if you put a small playground next to the power plant (the cheapest, smallest park), you can increase efficiency by 15% via happiness which almost cancels out the skills issue (assuming you didn’t start with 3/24 workers like i did…)

    • @katiefrisk980

also, building the power station in a remote location selected specifically for having water deposits such that you can fully power 3~4 stations, then building a bunch of apartments around it (with a sprinkling of mixed use) pretty much solves the employees problem, esp paired with subsidizing well educated workers

Extra little tip I stumbled on last night!
You are limited to 1 geothermal facility, however you can buy a solar facility (same price per KW monthly) to increase your power production.
Once doing so you will realize the high voltage power lines LIMIT YOU TO 400kw of power transmission. This means that in early game the most power you can sell is 400kw since there is only 1 outside power connection.
By then limiting the budget to around 90% you can score a whopping 300k profit! The trick is to adjust up and down until the solar facility is as 100% USAGE (not efficiency) as this means that all of the sunlight hitting your panels is being used/sold.
Good video! Thanks for diving into this!

Garbage incinerator is probably bugged at this point, if you build the base building you get like 3mw out of it which is almost nothing. But if you build the second furnace it rockets up to 70MW+. As soon as your city is large enough for one of these you build it, and you can run free electricity for +20% efficiency on all buildings, plus you're running surplus on electricity spending because you have no power plants, and you're selling excess electricity.

Complicated, I did the same thing though you got 10k and I had only 5k.
So building a police station, fire department, school was taking me into the negative.
The game is not really teaching you on how to actually make money. It lets you build things, give you money each milestone.
It shows you what zones are preferred by the citizen.
Those services are really expensive. It just feels awkward to let it run, keep going on without them. Ahh ppl die but who cares, more money right?
Kinda feels like they should've made the base building cheaper in services costs but less effective.
And have some more in depth information on how money flows other than just "here have a window and see what happens with your money"
I still enjoy the game, it's just complicated to actually get the money flowing

TLDR for my run: import services rather than have capacity sit idle. Build a garbage incinerator as soon as you have a decent garbage stockpile, export power for profit, then go nuclear.
As soon as I was leveled up enough to build all the way to the edge of the map, I built a pipeline to a neighbor so I could import water and export sewage. I found that more cost-effective than my own water pumps and sewage disposal when I didn't have many residents. As I grew I eventually set up a water pump, then later started dumping sewage.
For power I went all-in on wind, expanding as needed. While yes, at 3000/MW it's more expensive than the 2500/MW for a gas plant, being able to closely match supply with demand was very helpful, and with the advanced rotor design upgrade the cost per MW drops to 2666/MW which is basically the same. I stuck with those until I got the incineration plant, which I wasn't even trying to use for power generation, just waste disposal. But at 840/MW while getting rid of trash as well, it was so cheap that not only did I close my wind plants, I started actually turning a significant profit from selling the surplus. You can export for ~2500/MW so the profit you can turn from a single incinerator plant is about 415k/month. That by itself pays for running an Elementary School, High School, College and University (which also bring in tuition money) so for the cost of a bit of pollution you can take care of trash, electricity, and education while turning a profit.
I got my game to a stable point and more or less let it idle for a few hours until I had enough development points to buy my way up to a nuclear power plant. At 1333/MW it's the most profitable scalable power source, and I'm now making 2m/month exporting power from it (minus 1.225m for maintaining the plant, water and sewage requirements). That really turned things around for me. Technically when you factor in the water/sewage requirements it's 1633/MW for nuclear vs 1554/MW for solar (1536 after you build the tracking upgrade) but that's pretty damn close and the need to not worry about batteries, seasons, weather etc. makes the simplicity of nuclear quite attractive overall. Good way to make money :D

  • @peacefulwraith
    @peacefulwraith 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Tip for taxes .
    1. increse vehicle tax full
    2. Increase petrochemical tax full
    3. Put district parking fee on road to 50 and in parking 🅿️ put it to 30-40
    4. Increase educated and well educated tax 2% more than the others
5.increse media tax a little bit high ( in office)
When your vehicle tax is high people will use public transport so make sure u have pub lines and put their cost to max 50 .
in this way you will get plus revenue from transport ( decrease the transport services to 50% it will still run 12-13 buses which are more than enough)
people still going to use cars and buy cars so in this way you get enough money.

Making money is relative simple. Keep the services away for as long as possible. Don't produce too much power to try to get export benefits. And if people start to complain about high rent, and low residential is your only demand at that moment, you need to look carefully at the shape of the zoned block. They want cheap houses, so to give them the cheapest house you need to zone blocks of 2x2, make it look like a chess board. All the "too high rent" will disappear". Also another thing, if you rank up, don't immediately start buying tiles. Keep the one you are working in as long as possible, because you have to pay for all the road/train track services within the tiles you own.

I never build power in the beginning. That cuts down costs a lot, because I'm not spending money on power production that isn't getting used. Instead, I import energy until my monthly import cost exceeds the cost of producing more power myself. At that point, I build my first power plant, and I increase the delivery cost to 110%

You made a mistake in the budget part. When you droped the budget your plant production dropped from 320 MW to 84 MW. But the export figure was still showing +811K. The game does not instantly update the export revenue. You have to wait for the next day. So the extra profit displayed is fake. The same mistake happens earlier at 15:07 here you used the slider at 150% to inflat your export revenue. Then you dropped the slider to create a 'profit'. But this profit is not real, the export value will drop if you let the game run.

    • @TotalXclipse
      @TotalXclipse  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

At 15 minutes I mention that you shouldn't adjust your budget because of that. I then mention that once your plant fills up and you move the sliders back to default position that you'll see profit but that's not from the sliders. That's from the power plant now being filled with employees. But you're right that the profit at the end of the video is fake which is why I pinned a comment mentioning that.

Thanks for this video. Im currently on my 3rd city attempt. Its the first I've gotten through to the fall season and around milestone 6 or 7. Money is an issue a bit, but weirdly it seems to be doing okay. But theres a lot i fould fix and do differently.
Going to see if i can use some of these tips to improve new areas and redo old that arent already high building levels.
Ita only now that my earnings bar is getting much closer to my expenses. And I'm finding i am earning money sometimes which is nice.
I think a decent bit of money started coming after i could charge for on street parking to force people to park in car parks that i priced cheaper.
My whole city is such a big mix of nice areas with then lots of random rubbish lol. But i think thata part of the charm. Excited to start my next one keeping all your tips in mind from the get -go! Hope youre enjoyong the game.
