    No, the Norwegian scene was not inspired to look into their own heritage because they were influenced by "Roots". That album came out in 1996, Enslaved had already released two "Norse" albums in 1994. Other Norwegian bands such as Ulver, Satyricon, Emperor, Helheim, Kampfar, Burzum, ... had those influences years before "Roots" hit the market. "Roots" might have influenced tons of nu-metal stuff, but I strongly doubt it was part of the listening routine of a lot of black metal guys.

      Norwegian black metal was influenced by Bathory, which is arguably the first band to blend cultural heritage and metal.

      I don't think he meant, Roots was black metal or it's beginning, he said, some bands have been influenced by it to use stuff from their own roots onto their music (such as Vikings, Mongols, Armenians...).

    • @stofosaurus
      @stofosaurus ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats not what he means though. He means that the trinal aspect of Roots speaks to people who make music with traditional folk or tribal influences. Me, being mainly a death and black metal guy can definetly say I understand what Max means. The tribal influences of Sepultura and Soulfly really hits the core of our souls.

    When I think of metal clichés, I always think of Max Cavalera: a greasy fat dude with blonde hair who only uses four strings of his guitars.

      Ok firstly, one of my favourite bands is Crowbar who play incredibly slowly and my favourite parts of Crowbar are their slowest moments.
      Secondly, i said "my favourite". I'm sorry for having a different taste to you but i didn't state anything as fact like you are.
      Thirdly, i read an interview with Max at the time where he actually said "yeh we got lazy with our playing with this one"
      You obviously believe your personal taste is fact and have strong views about it... This is actually the dictionary definition of bigotry.
      What a fucking asshole abusing others just for having a different favourite album.
      Please fuck off back to your hole where you can tell yourself how important you are without annoying others you bigot.

      @@mooferoo He wasn't talking to you bro. He was calling the OP a douchebag.
      But yeah.. I like Roots *because* it's slower. Straighthate is one of the heaviest songs of all time. IDGAF what anyone says. I like blast beats and machine gun kicks if they're done tastefully or to add dynamics. (Fast beats make the slow parts even heavier by comparison) I loved Vinnie Paul's drumming for example. I like some of Joey Jordison's shit. I love Slayer, but I just tire out on it pretty quick. I can listen to groove metal and slower metal all day long. I'm with ya! I generally, I prefer shit like Crowbar, Eyehategod, etc.

    • @jackko21
      @jackko21 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I agree but the one thing I love is that it's raw as fuck OK not as raw as morbid visions but it's not overproduced like alot of metal albums where starting to become at the time and the guitar tones kinda reminds me of trey azagthoths tone on morbid angels covenent album and ross robinson gets aggressive performances out of bands he works with I think his production style would work really well with sludge metal or doom metal or thrash metal or goregrind or death metal
