Hey great hike Martin, enjoyed the series. Too bad about the smoke, but still a beautiful landscape. That was quite a hike, a lot of miles, good job. Nice of you to pass on your food and fuel. I curious, have you ever paddled the Yellowstone? Thanks, take care.

Badger! nice catch! interesting how young all the trees look around 11:20. such nice forest out there. Steep switch backs, we could see it before you mention it// that whole area was steep all around! neat waterfall. I think there was another quick view of it at the end there? So many bear tracks and scat, kinda nerve racking/ Thanks for taking us with you

a lot of that area burned in 1988 and the young trees are the regrowth. very thick in there. i did see 4 grizzlies thru that section. a sow and two 3yr old cubs on the way in and a average size bear walked into my camp(maybe 50yrds away). the bear scented me turned and left. i just sat there and watched.

That is pretty scary about the bears... Our bears in CA are a lot less dangerous, only black bears here... I will FReak Out if one ever comes into camp... we're supposed to yell at them and make them leave.. so far ive only seen one in the crowded part of Yosemite, like 100 people watching it//get this - my Mom runs a Girl Scout troop for underprivileged girls, they get a lot of funding- they were in Yellowstone during the big fires in 88, mom in a van full of girls who had never been out of the city.. pretty exciting for them.. crazy we are still seeing the effects all over the place out there// looking forward to videos of your future trips you really do a great job

The fires did burn that year. It takes a long while but the trees do come back and after about 80/100yrs the forest is amazing. I hike in a drainage that burned about 10yrs ago. Lots of down timber and the going is tough and slow. the new pines and about 12inches tall. Sometime they are hard to see but there really is a lot of new growth. It's a joy to my heart to see all the little pines. as far as the bears go; i've never had a problem in over 40yrs of hiking in the Yellowstone area. I've seen over 100 grizzlies. One year i saw 27 grizzlies. 14 in one week. Last year i saw 7. Once in a while i yell "hey bear" and they go away.

great info. as far as the bears i just keep trying to take stories like yours to heart ... a few yrs ago we were afraid to camp in yosemite.. i might actually make it to grizzly country next year.. if you can see that many and be fine i should be ok too

i always tell people that they should consider themselves very luck if they see a grizzly. they are amazingly beautiful animals. a person has to be cautious, keep a clean camp, properly store food, if something does go wrong; don't run! if you make it to grizzly country next year that would be very cool.
