Great content 👍🏻 I’m waiting on my MK 2 to arrive, I stream on twitch and also vlog (no self promo) and drive HVG and would like to stream from my truck, Is there an option to use the internet connection from your phone so that you can stream anywhere
1 year late to the party but I am very interested in this feature with the S5ii X and hope you do a video of that when it’s available. I chip time running races and use a G85/GX85 video combo to capture the finish line in the rare case of missed chip reads. I’m thinking of adding a S5ii X for a finish line livestream since I already have a Wi-Fi cellular hotspot spitting out live race results. Picking up a GH5ii would do this, but I’d appreciate the full-frame Panasonic when I’m not timing. I’ve invested enough in MFT and have been using it for appropriate jobs and travel since 2013. It’s great and I will continue to use it for the finish line, but want to get full frame Lumix for other photographic/video pursuits. Cheers!
Does this also work outdoors through the phone or iPad on its mobile internet connection? Are there any differences in setup? This video covered indoor usage via your home WiFi, but I was surprised there was no information on how to do things away from the home internet connection.
I have a potential solution but don't have the camera so I can't confirm if it works (looking to get one in the future). You can use a Mi-Fi device with a sim card and it works exactly like Wi-Fi. The connection quality depends on the sim card (5g/4g) and location but IMO it's the best option for outdoor use (sports/news) etc.
Assuming your phone has a mobile data connection where you are outdoors then create a WiFi hotspot on your phone and connect the camera's WiFi though that to stream to the internet.
@@stevehoge I appreciate your answer. I now have a Mi-Fi type mobile Wifi device and it works better than a phone hotspot. Hotspots can be good for emergency purposes, but I have found hotspots to be flaky compared to mobile WIfi devices. I actually had a different reason to get the Mi-Fi device, but discovered that it works great for streaming purposes. My device is a D-Link one and it works well, although I wish the battery life was better.
@@artistjoh I have had good luck running a hotspot on my Google Pixel phone - in areas of good coverage, of course, and also not for long periods of continuous connection like you'd need for streaming. The advantage is I already have a data plan for my phone and don't have to pay my carrier for an addition device like the MiFi.
Thanks a lot!!! Few persons are giving this detailed information. What I would love to know is how to make use the new upgrade where you can stream via Lan connection and use more than one camera to stream via OBS
I hope this video is helpful. Just a quick addition. You can share the URL of the live stream directly from the app from the "go live" screen. If you have the TH-cam app for your phone you won't need a computer at all once it's ready to go. :) If you missed my GH5 II tutorial check it out here - th-cam.com/video/uXaTdO4ZWVg/w-d-xo.html
Thank you again! This was a great tutorial on live streaming (I found it). I don’t live-stream to TH-cam, I might but I mostly use zoom. I wonder if I can use the camera for zoom? If so how and would I record from the camera or from zoom? And how to include the wireless rode mic? Would it be attached to computer or camera? Sorry, my head is spinning from all these questions. I’m hoping you know the answers 🙏
How to connect the camera to the phone though? Imagine I want to stream on TH-cam and project what I see through my camera in real time, away from home. Thanks!
Thanks for this video! Really appreciate it! Can you do this video with the latest firmware update and streaming over wire instead of wireless? I haven't seen anyone explain that yet.
I actually upgraded the camera for LAN streaming but the dongle I got doesn't work. There's only a few brands that do work. Once I have a working dongle, I will follow it up. Cheers :)
Wired, it will only do RTSP, so you need OBS or another broadcaster software, to connect to it and then stream from there. RTMP only works with wifi or tethered to a mobile phone.
Great tutorial, question for you, the livestream works fine but the blue box does not come up around the edges? Also will the actual livestream record on the camera too? or would you need to use an external recorder like a Ninja?
Yes, you'll have to record externally if you want anything else than the stream itself. Trying to figure it out if there's any limitation on external recording, or HDMI output while streaming.
One other question, is it possible to LiveStream from the GH5II via my mobile phone that has good data without any other wifi or laptop etc? Literally just the camera and the iphone13?
I want to broadcast live events BUT every single venue I already do event videography at uses captive portals, when after connecting to WiFi you must enter user/password, or at the very least you click “I accept” in a browser. I’m afraid Panasonic’s livestreaming in all cameras, I have even considered a >$5000 pro camcorder, has been done in such a way that makes it 100% incomparable with 99% of use cases in any of the many locations I have had clients send me. Am I (hopefully) mistaken about this?
Hey, thanks for the tutorial. Something is not clear though: seems like I can't record (in camera) while I stream. Is this really the case ? That's kind of lame. Why would I sacrifice a perfectly fine record for streaming only?
@@GeekyNerdyTechy Do you know if there's any limit on what the HDMI can output while streaming ? I mean, I almost always record in V-Log, 4k 60p 10b. Anything less is a bust.
I was able to figure this out on the Panasonic S5iiX, but I cannot stream using my iPhone 15 Pro and the S5iiX using tethered USB. I can't even find my phone's WiFi hotspot connection with the S5iiX. I've tried with my iPhone 15 Pro and my Samsung S23. I keep following the instructions, but it's a round about problem. Everytime I connect a USB, I lose Bluetooth and the app won't work unless I use connect via Bluetooth to start the stream. I read the manual too, but can't get USB tethering or phone hotspot to work. :/ I appreciate your tutorial though. Much better than the one Panasonic made for the S5iiX.
Love your content (been watching from a different account for a while, I bought the Feidu mic because of your deep test) - do you plan on doing a deep-dive on the latest GH5 MK2 firmware update?
Once I get a working usb-c to ethernet dongle I will do a follow up. The process is pretty much the same except you need to turn the LAN function on inside the camera.
I am also interested to see what dongle works and what's the quality like. Ideally I want a wireless input to atem mini but IP video to a laptop via LAN is also acceptable. GH5II as one of the camera angles with overlay and low thirds in a multi camera stream.
Hi there. Another question if you don't mind. I've got the live streaming facility working fine (thanks to your video) but it appears that the video isn't recorded on my phone. Is there a work around for this as its my daughters wedding that I'm attempting to record and stream. Many thanks
You can't unless something has changed since this video was released. When you hit the shutter button the camera starts live streaming and the red record ring is blue in this mode.

Nice video, how do you use same camera for a zoom meeting using the Bluetooth
The best TH-cam streaming tutorial. I'm just waiting for TH-cam to activate my live option, then I'll be good to go.

Yes, create a WiFi hotspot with your phone and connect your phone to that network instead of any other WiFi network you might have available.
Can you record Internally in camera same time as you stream? Can you have a separate setting for the internal streaming?
I can't do that with the S5iiX, so I'm guessing it's a no for the GH5ii. But, you can use an HDMI out and try to record a backup that way. ;)
