    Rather than lowering the bit rate etc after spending money on the top camera am I not just better upgrading the storage capacity than lowering waisting the image quality I paid for? It’s not meant to be a funny question but it’s what I’m thinking. Your thoughts?

      You're not wrong - that's exactly how I think about it too. However, there is a point of diminishing returns. For example, setting the bitrate from 4096 Kb/s to 8192 Kb/s may result in a 5-10% image quality improvement but consume twice the storage. So, it's all about optimizing it for your needs and requirements.

    For 3mp camera, what bitrate u suggest?. The installer of my security camera set it to constant bitrate with max 1536kbps, but the image looks soft and lacks detail…

      I'd recommend at least twice that - around 3072 Kbps. You can also try increasing the contrast and sharpening in image settings. That should increase the detail (but don't increase by too much or the image will look unrealistic).
