As a Brazilian, I can confidently say that this isn’t how we often make Brazilian lemonade- You have to pick very ripe limes with a thin skin and when you blend them, you actually put them whole and just blend for around five seconds, enough for the lemon juice to come but not enough to actually blend the skin too much so it doesn’t become bitter! You have to strain everything carefully and add the condensed milk and ice after, the lemonade will be 10X better when made correctly! Great video though (Sorry if my grammar isn’t perfect, not my first language and all that.)

Lemme hit ya with the version I made based on the D75 style.
Chop a small carton of strawberries and toss them with cane sugar, lemon zest, and peeled lemons.
Hit the whole mess with a kitchen torch or broil it for 2 minutes.
Blend it all with 2 cups of chilled water, then strain it into a bowl then again back into the blender.
Add the sweetened condensed and cane sugar to taste and blend once more until it's all together.
Legitimately, the BEST lemonade I have ever tasted and I'd be a happy man if I could go the rest of my life with some of it always ready to drink.

Brazilian here, we normally just blend the whole lemon cut in 4, but we blend it for only 4~5 seconds so it doesn't get bitter.
I have never heard about anyone putting in condensed milk besides people abroad teaching people "how we do it here".
The lemonade everyone learns here is:
    1.5L of cold water
2 lemons cut in 4 pieces each
Splash of normal milk (just pour it for one second into the blender)
    sugar or sweetener to taste
blend for no more than 5 seconds on medium and strain.
That's the real brazilian "swiss" lemonade.

Guys, I've made it so many times, and I can confirm. The secret to not making it bitter is in the pith, but instead of shaving the skin, just dont OVERBLEND. Blend until the juices have been extracted but not for more than like 45 seconds. Usually takes like 10 seconds of blending and then pulsing. The reason most are bitter is because people overblend

For those who wonder why we call it swiss lemonade, it's due to the condensed milk. Here, the most popular brand (as in most parts of the world) is Nestlé, which is from Switzerland.

It's called a Swiss Lemonade, because when condensed milk first came to Brazil, it was only imported from Switzerland.

My girlfriend is Brazilian and her mom basically said, “sure you could do all that but most people in Brazil just use lime juice from her bottle and sweetened condensed milk as is.”
I’ve tried it both ways and the modern *lazy* was honestly tastes better, just cut a lime to garnish it if you want.

you can use whole limes, but there's a certain lime you have to use. unfortunately I don't know the English name, but in Chinese it's called 香柠 which just translates to fragrant lime in English 😅 the skin is much thinner, barely any pith, and the fruit is also bigger

As a Brazilian, I would like to point out that we do indeed call it Swiss lemonade, but it doesn’t has to have the condensed milk to be called like that and also, if you add cachaça, you’ll get a form of caipirinha 😊 (not the right way to do ir but ygt)

It shouldn’t be bitter even with the skin, you’re not supposed to blend Brazilian lemonade all that much just lightly when you blend it to a liquid where the pieces of skin are very fine then it becomes bitter.

I remember waking up the whole house cuz i realized when im watching your video we got a whole bag of lime from my neighbours so i try to give it a shot
And THATS SHIT BITTER BITTER i literally regret making all that noise and being excited to give my parents a taste just to realize its so bad, im making excuses like maybe its the neighbours lime bla bla bla. I feel so bad waking them up.
since then, i never tried to cook ever again

Still bitter, to be bitterless u have to squeeze the lemon by hand being careful of the zest(the zest is bitter also). Water ir hand every 2 lemon squeeze and there u have it. It passes a day without turning bitter

  • @evanmitchell2188
    @evanmitchell2188 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

Use the whole lime, just cut the white fuzzy middle bits off, dont blend for more than 45sec then strain, all the flavor none of the bitter, also u can add other stuff like coconut milk or regular milk, and most recipes use way too much condensed milk

You dont have to do any of that, just follow the original video but blend it for less than 10 seconds, if you blend it less there is no bitterness and you still get the full flavor of the lime

Lived in Brazil a couple years. There's just one word for limeade/lemonade: limonada. I think that's why we tend to call it Brazilian lemonade, instead of limeade.
Every time I had it, around Ribeirão Preto, people made it the "bitter" way. Either one works, depending on your preference. I like it half way.
I know it's sometimes called Limonada Suiça (swiss lemonade) but I never heard anyone call it that.

Blending whole limes is better, gives it a more fluffy texture. Just don’t blend it more than 5-10 seconds
