First of all: I really like the Punisher, it was my favourite weapon in Helldivers 1 despite not being the strongest. But I have one point of major discussion: I personally would not necessarily use it over the Slugger. I believe, that the major benefit of the Punisher is the raw damage it deals, being 405 if all pellets hit. The Slugger only comes in at 280. However, I still do believe the Slugger is pretty much a direct upgrade. Yes, the Punisher deals more damage against non-armored targets, but as soon as we see a bit of armor (Devastators, Striders/Walkers, Hive guards, Bile Spewers and more), we will either not be able to penetrate at all (0 DMG and no stagger) or get a white Hitmarker, meaning 50% DMG applied (202.5), which is less than the Slugger. Sure, the Slugger may get white hitmarkers as well, dealing only 140 DMG, but in those cases, the Punisher would not have penetrated at all. On top of this, the Slugger is more accurate since it only shoots 1 high-power pellet vs. (I believe) 8 or so lower-power pellets, making it very good at (1) landing headshots on Devastators and (2) controlling and staggering distant targets equally well as handling shorter/mid range targets. The Punisher may start struggling at very high distance (e.g., some automatons) due to its multi-pellet nature. As I would always pick either of these weapons for its utility rather than pure DPS (which you'll have weapons like the Breaker for), I believe the Slugger has more utility due to medium armor penetration.
The Punisher is a great weapon, but against hive guards and bile spewer its a problem. So i prefer the Slugger, 2-3 shots hiveguards, 2 shots commanders, 4-5 shots bile spewers, and 1 shots all other smaller bugs and i think the stagger is more or atleast the same as the Punisher which gives more crowd control, and you also get the added range bonus. Wish the Punisher had medium armor pen, ohh boy that would be a dream.
My personal favourite so far. There's also a nice trick that reloading the single shell you just fired during the pump animation basically cancels the animation, making it stay full of shells the entire time.
I prefer Slugger for its cargo container opening utility, the medium pen, and the longer effective range. The slugs are less effective when you're surrounded, but that's where the new stun grenades come into play, its crowd control power is busted and will probably get nerfed. Combo them with the 90 second cooldown precision strike, you'd be deleting groups and HVTs left, right and center.
Praying this gets 10k views today. Its been my main since the buff. Pro tip, hit the reload when switching targets to toss a shell or two in so you never truly have to retreat. Pro pro tip tip: the bile stun if shot in the face drops enough health to kill with a SINGLE grenade launcher shot. Back pack, gl, orbital gyatt, and a precision. Gimme these, a punisher and a senator for finishing off HivGuars and BrooCommans when I get impatient and I'll swat the hordes.
Been my go-to bug hun since patch! Thanks mogz, all helldivers should know the potential of the weapons cc! (Sidenote the punisher was one the funnest guns in HD1!)
@@_stankz I pair it with railgun on bot missions. Railgun for armour / distance and plasma shotty for the rest. It kills regular bots in one shot, can kill multiple in one shot, staggers/interrupts devastators, can shoot over cover. Love it. Also kills chargers but I prefer the new lazer gun for bugs
@pioooootras hmmm I might have to give it a try again. When I was using it and it took 4 direct hits to kill 1 berserker I said nah =/ (I use scorcher for bots)
Slugger feels weird to me, it's a shotgun but the projectile size feels like a DMR so you have to aim really carefully or you will mostly miss, but punisher? you can just aim in that particular direction&F* most things, i pair it with autocannon and it feels really great against bugs.
breaker is incredibly good at hitting the weakspots (on devastatos n beserkers for eg) even at decent range. That'd prob be my top pick for an anti-bot primary i hear the scorcher is good too, but i've not use that one myself

i just prefer the slugger for the sole reason that the medium pen + stagger lets me kill the super annoying armored bile spewers with ease

@@_stankz that's true, the damage is low, and the projectile is slow, berserkers are hard to deal with
